Retelling the same story from another perspective?

Retelling something from a new perspective is an idea I've been playing around with. Something like part 1 is exhibitionism while part 2 is told from the perspective of a voyeur. Or more specifically in my case, rewriting You Cannot Remember from the third person perspective of the person "you" are having sex with.

Supposing you liked the first part, would you be interested in the sort of shot/reverse shot? Also, if you have considered doing this or done this, how do you think it went, and feel free to post a link if you have examples.
I did both sides of a story in A Bride's Awakening and Wedding Night Blues, but it's different situation so not really relevant. A wedding goes awry and one story is the bride's side and one is the groom's. It sounds more like you want to do different sides of the same sexual encounter, which I think is a terrific idea but I haven't done it yet myself.

In case you are interested, here's the first, then you can just follow the link to the second (and beyond since they ended up as the first two chapters of a six-part series).

Yeah, that's more what I'm leaning towards.

I've got a handful outlined, but less started. I'm not going to cover them here because no spoilers

I wouldn't be. Switching perspectives to tell the same story again sounds laboured, unless there's something striking revealed by it. I prefer reading stories written from a single perspective, because other characters' views can be implied - and that makes my imagination get to work. Maybe it gives the story room to breathe, I don't know.

I think in novels you can get away with it sometimes. Can't think of any great ones though.

But if your question is about rewriting from a different perspective then I think that's a good exercise. I know I've struggled over the perspective from which to write a story; sometimes a story that lacks energy told one way seems vibrant when you put the voice in a different person's head.

Yeah, in my case, I had written the groom's perspective (he gets dumped by text message on his wedding day and has a rebound fling with his high school best friend) first without really saying why the bride dumped him, then wrote the bride's perspective to show what really happened. So it's really two separate stories that overlap in the middle and provide additional context for each other.

I was trying to come up with a story or novel that is written from changing perspectives and I simply can't. All that comes to mind is the classic Akira Kurosawa movie Rashomon which is played out through the perspective of three different people who all have observed or felt or been part of the same story being played out in completely different ways. In the end, all three of them claim to be the murderer of a samurai and the audience is left without the truth being resolved.

This story, however, was presented by a genius. I doubt too many others could do the same thing so wonderfully.
I've got 2 long arse stories (over 200k words and 40 chapters) that are told from alternating perspectives of the 2 main characters in each.
Generally the switch moves the story forward, rather than playing out the same scene.

There have been a few occasions when I had felt that the having both characters giving their perspective on the same scene was really helpful and added to the story. However, the scenes were only a part of the particular chapter they were in, not whole chapters by themselves.

It feels like you are not as certain as I was, for me it was just the right thing for the story. Perhaps it might be better to do a fresh story from the new perspective. If it really does feel like it will add, then do it, the only cost to you is your time.

However, I don't tend to follow the accepted norm with my writing, so you may want to ignore everything I have just written

I did this some time ago.

I started out writing one story about gay male seduction. Later I went back and wrote the same events from the other person's perspective.
I edited and combined them for one story and posted it on literotica.

I did this with a sci-fi story. The original story was about a space journey of 5 ships going to colonize a new planet, with most people in stasis of some sort and each ship controlled by 2 humans and a crew of androids. It was told from the perspective of the humans. several years after the original, I wrote the story from the perspective of the androids, which while it was the same story, added details the humans would not have known about.
I think having two stories, one from the voyeur's POV, one from the exhibitionist's POV, is a great idea. I'd read it. I love that kind of stuff.

I did it once with a trilogy of stories, about a ffm threesome, where each story was from a different POV of one of the participants. It was fun to write, and pretty well received.

It's not here on Lush anymore. You can buy it on Amazon here (shameless plug): https://www.amazon.com/Open-Trilogy-Door-Window-Eyes-ebook/dp/B07V46QLJV/

I actually really like that idea, plus I got to say that story of yours ( you cannot remember ) intrigued me greatly and left me wanting for more.
I did a follow up to a story fairly recently like this.

Synergy tells the original story as it happens and then Replay was written as a memory months later (although I actually wrote this one first).

They're both a continuation of Smack, but I've written them as stand-alones rather than a strictly continuing series.

It's fun to play around with whilst trying not to be too repetitive, so a bit of a challenge too.

I think this is a great concept. Jaded_Buddha did it masterfully in his series The Fire That Blinds, telling an event and its repercussions from the three characters involved:

I also penned "Window Of Opportunity" and had every intention to write the female perspective as a follow-up. Offered it to another of our talented authors here instead, so that should be gracing the site at some point. I'm sooooo looking forward to seeing how their side of the story is portrayed.
