As I was El Geekoid in my youth, I didn't care, as long as a guy actually paid some attention to me I was happy. hey im not planning on going through every post in this thread (most of them would involve me restating things ive already said, if my arguments are at all unclear im happy to clarify, but im not going to bog this down any further than it already is) but this post is addressed specifically to me so ill respond to it.
if youd actually looked at my profile you would know that im an american (i.e. i was born and raised in the states) but i currently live in canada.
i am very saddened that people here have used the fact that i called out specific people and instances of problematic behavior in this thread as an excuse to ignore the arguments i presented. i agree that racism is serious and that it is not something to be thrown about lightly, but i also do not believe (as some posters, specifically sprite and bambi, seem to) that calling someone a racist is the same as saying that htey are a horrible irredeemable person forever. as i posted earlier in the thread and have reiterated several times, i have not met a non-racist person ever and i do not believe that one exists. the thing to be done when confronted with your own racism (as i have attempted to do here) is to stop doing those racist things.
if you choose to double down, deny, and derail rather than confront this, that is what makes you an unrepentant racist, and that is what i will condemn.

Not taking anyone's side here but I can't agree with this statement 100%. I mean, I know what you mean.. Not everyone is a racist to the point of actively displaying their racism. But it is not idiotic at all that some people believe that no one is truly non-racist. It is just the way our brains work. We tend to categorize our experiences in our memory depending if they were positive or negative. Just like anything else we learn from these experiences to develop an expected outcome when confronted with certain situations, including people. There is a reason that a racist joke will most likely produce laughter or anger. It's because we are all very aware of race all the time.

I am absolutely not equating racism with preference. If I have a preference to only hire white people, I am a racist. If I have a preference to only vote for white people, I am racist. If I have a preference to only be attracted to white people, I am racist.

I've been thinking about this a lot since my last post, and I have to say that I'm not entirely sure about the matter, but I do know that the vast majority of people in the world are racist, and I believe my motives at the time of the statement you mentioned were to mollify the people who take offense at being labelled racist by reminding them that they are not alone and that this sort of unconscious, unexamined racism is a common feature, certainly among people living in the first world, and, I suspect, elsewhere as well.

I could go in depth (as much or more so than I already have) as to the socially constructed nature of race (hint: race is not an immutable thing, the classifications of races (i.e. how many peopel think there are and who qualifies) have changed drastically over the years, how there's much more variation within races than between them, and so on) the context of the discourse in this thread, and how obvious and ugly the racism here has been, but I don't really think it would help at this point, it's already clear that most of you aren't actually reading or considering what I have to say, perhaps yelling will help, since nothing else seems to.

I don't know the history of this forum but I am well acquainted with the sort of trolling you're describing. It's ironic that people are using it on me in this very thread, asking me to justify the posts I've done in this thread by reference to some other anti-racist activity that they consider more legitimate (or "real"). However, I am not Storm and I am not asking all that much of y'all, only that you remain open to criticism and self-criticism and work to end racist behavior when you become aware of it. I am not asking you to become revolutionaries or to fix the entire world, I am asking you to stop contributing, in this specific (admittedly small) way, to the horrible oppressive systems in which we live.

The most tactful way to tell people who YOU THINK is racist is not to publicly call them a racist without even knowing that person - and just because you say it is so, doesn't necessary mean it is. Preference doesn't mean that one is simply eliminating all other options, but that one is liked more.

That being said, if Summa would like to actually provide how she defines racism, the conversation would probably go better. At this point, it's equivalent to a math teacher (Summa, in this case) telling everyone (the rest of lush) is doing an equation incorrectly without showing the students why, how, and/or where they are messing up. All this leaves is headache and anger. Expecting everyone to magically agree with you about racism without knowing how you're defining it is quite a feat that leaves everyone to direct their anger towards you when you are the one who brought the accusations to light. It's ridiculous to believe that people will randomly side with you on a subject/topic when you are not fully explaining it to them.
In the traditional views, this thread is not racist. In the view of Summa, whatever that may be, it is.
That being said, I prefer nothing. I'm used to white men only because they pursue me more often than anyone else-- including gender, not even touching on their sexuality. Do I think that they're better? Nope. Do I prefer them? Nope. Am I used to them? Yup.
i.e. "I prefer black men because I like them more," is different than "I prefer black men because they are the only thing I like," is that "like them more" still shows that you like other races; this point in the topic being is that "preference," along with its connotations, are being grossly misjudged and construed.
That being said, if Summa would like to actually provide how she defines racism, the conversation would probably go better. Seeing as how most people don't like to be shot down randomly for something they don't see the same on, the majority of people will turn to a definition; this was already done, however, and it was not corrected by Summa, the one who brought up racism blatantly. My question is this: where are we supposed to look to find what racism means according to Summa? Not taking anyone's side here but I can't agree with this statement 100%. I mean, I know what you mean.. Not everyone is a racist to the point of actively displaying their racism. But it is not idiotic at all that some people believe that no one is truly non-racist. It is just the way our brains work. I just can't accept that we as a global people are so far gone and jaded that none of us has been able to move past the color of our skin. Maybe I'm just being an idealist? Being aware of race, especially when presented in a comedy routine by Chris Rock in a comedy club doesn't equate into subconscious racism. Many people aren't racist but are prejudiced. And many are neither. Just my humble uneducated opinion.
Btw, where is the line between prejudice and racism? I have a hard time differentiating between the two. Or even if there's any difference at all?

I have read every post on this thread twice now, trying to really understand everyones point of view, or lack of a point of view. And to try to see how having a preference on who you like to have sex with is considered racism or being predjudiced. I have my preferences on what physical traits I prefer in a sex partner and that is most definitely NOT racism. While I have never had sex with a black person, mainly because right sitaution has never presented itself, and I will admit that on a whole I am more attracted to while men and women beacuse that is what i am used to. That makes me a racist? That is fucking rediculous.
If I am not sexualy attracted to an 80yo man, does that mean I am against the elderly? If a man doesnt want to have sex with a gay man, does that make him anti gay? Well prejudice and racism are different things. One can be prejudice against the young, old, poor, rich, men, women etc.
This article below is a study done at Georgia Tech. It touches on built in racism in all people from learned experiences. Mainly entertainment in this case. It's not that having racist instincts or thoughts here and there makes anyone racist, it's just the way our brains work. It's impossible to have your brain change the way it works, in the way it categorizes everything, when it comes to race. Of course most of us aren't people that let these split second gut reactions influence our actions. Like say you are sitting in an airplane and two young arab men sit by you, and your brain may have some kind of unfair thought toward them... It's natural. Those same two men probably had some kind of unfair thought about you too. The same way that sometimes men will have a sexual thought when they see a beautiful women cross their path. Doesn't make the man a sexist, pervert or anything. Its a gut reaction our brains have. If you were to grope the woman then you might be labeled a pervert. But just because you didn't grope the woman doesn't mean you didn't sexualize her in your brain. Racism is the same thing, just because most normal people don't act on their thoughts doesn't mean that racism isn't inherent in all of us.

I think these examples have little to do with our society but that toddler in the jungle will probably grow up to learn that people from other jungle tribes are bad and to steer clear of them. Introducing someone like that to society might be a bit interesting too. They would probably focus on physical differences more than normal people would since they wouldn't be used to it at all.
Also, just because someone is of mixed race and saw racism from both sides doesn't really make them un-racist... I have a black/white friend that has racist thoughts towards indian people. He sometimes says them out loud. It's stupid of him. He also sometimes is quick to think white people are prejudice against him cause he's black.. He's half white but he has racist thoughts in the way that he believes white people will be racist toward him. He is just one example though... I have known many mixed race people, dated them, worked with them, been friends with them. They are like everyone else.

This statement here is interesting to me and maybe will help me make a point. By stating your opinion is uneducated like that you assume people that are educated might dismiss what you say simply because they feel smarter than you. These kind of assumptions that educated people don't value uneducated people's opinions as much as their own might have developed through cultural osmosis. "People with educations are elitists and upper crust assholes" It doesn't make you prejudice against the educated, but it is an assumption that might not be fair.

Having a brief thought based on color doesn't necessarily mean a person IS a racist. In my own thoughts I'm a sexual God... in reality, not so much. lol
Actions vs thoughts are where I would draw the line. Some people may have racist thoughts and act on them. Some racists are easy to spot. Others are more careful in their ways. Where they live, who they do business with, and so on. Seeing 2 Arab men on a plane and having a momentary scare yet doing nothing is a far cry from seeing them and then demanding their removal, having them searched, or disembarking altogether.
I think that a people that are raised by mixed couples are less likely to be racist. Sure, some grow up to be jaded. But I'd think it's less common. Just like a person raised by 2 moms or 2 dads will grow up to not be homophobic. More than likely.

Sexual attraction can be very visual. Race is often manifested as a visual "type". A preference for a certain visual type when it comes to sexual attraction does not IMHO equate to racism. When I have a sexual fantasy, I usually have a certain visual type in mind. If that most frequent fantasy is not a black man, I don't think that makes me racist when it comes to black men.
I think the people who will admit to sexual attraction to a certain visual type are generally honest rather than racist. The racists won't admit it.
