Ok, if you don't want to buy udder balm (and I was totally serious on that point Zoe - I know at least two women that used it while nursing with painful nipples), then why don't you just use good old fashioned lube? Go for the anal-lube which is thicker and oil based rather than the thinner water-based lube. Makes sense, no? Moisturize with a good lotion in between sessions or use vaseline. If you're still having issues after that, I'd see a doctor.

It's natural lanolin, as organic as you can likely find on the mass market, but I swear by it, as lanolin is a healing product. I use it on my nipples, daily.
And I don't use this one, because I breastfeed and am not sure it's safe for my baby's digestive system, but I use this stuff for anything skin-wise that happens to me, be it cuts, burns, chapped skin, etc. I've forced it upon the boyfriend, too, and now he's a believer. I'm sure it would do wonders on nipples just as it does on every other body part, including "very" sensitive ones, if you follow me.
