If humans were more like animals..

I think there is a certain allure that comes from NOT knowing when a woman is most primed for reproduction. Even when one is looking to do everything EXCEPT make her pregnant, there still is that little part of our animal brains that are driven by that. As such, by not knowing it is sort of like Schrödinger's cat in that any moment could be considered that prime part of her cycle and therefore it leaves that reproductive motivation continually satisfied.

If as humans, men could sense when a female was in heat, I believe that the average woman would appear decent most of the time but would seem irresistible during that peak window. I would relate it to how a delicious meal of one's favorite food looks when they are not really hungry and how it looks when they are extremely famished. The smells, the tastes, and the desire for that meal are greatly improved even though the food is exactly the same. In this manner, it would be the same woman but I imagine that she would be seen as if the man was starved for her.

As far as alphas and perfect mates are concerned, I would say that those are already a thing to a degree. Go to any bar in any college town on a Saturday night and one is sure to see "bros" picking fights and peacocking in an attempt to show off for the ladies. Furthermore, I've seen this work on hundreds of occasions (in fact, I once witnessed a girl make out with a dude's neck, a guy she had just met, while he threatened to kick another guy's ass). I'm not saying that all men and woman are like this, far from it, but there are a small number out there that pretty much live and operate within an alpha-brute mentality. Also, I read once that the scent of a person is indicative of their genetic makeup and when someone smells naturally good, that is their system saying that they would be a prefered partner for creating offspring. Bullshit? Possibly. But it's still something fun to consider.

I can’t think of a good tagline so this will have to do. Suggest a better one for me?

we wouldn't jump into impulsive decisions

I have three famous stories, 2 recommended reads and have come in the top ten in two competitions~ Come in and make yourself at home.

Here's a question of opinion for the room. I was discussing bovine reproduction with a fellow lush member this morning and the topic got interesting. So I explained to her that at my farm we do 1 cycle (typically 21 days for cows) of artificial insemination and then whatever doesn't become pregnant from that breeding is exposed to a walking bull for clean up. She asked if the bull was horny all the time while he was in with a group of cows...to which I explained that sight and scent play a huge role for a bull in breeding season. The bull watches the cows behaviors and generally sniffs the cows rear as he can generally tell by smell if a cow will come into heat to breed. Now here's what I want to know...how do you think the world would be today if human women could only concieve every 21 days with the ultimate goal of becoming pregnant (lets say to repopulate the earth after an apocolypse to make it more interesting). Would it change for what you looked for in a partner? Would you focus more on finding a perfect specimen to mate with? How would it impact social scenes like bars...would the men fight it out to determine an alpha to get the pick of the ladies? Would there be an increase in one night stands to be with a woman "in heat?" Let the theories fly....

You'll probably find there will be one fertile woman on heat, and a room full of men all trying to beat each other into taking her home.

Or as I'd like to call it...any 'bar' I've ever been in
correct me if i'm wrong, but don't men tend to do this without realizing it? for example, isn't that why men prefer women at a healthy weight, versus either extreme? that's to insure procreation, correct?

Say. Her. Name.

I think this is true. Healthy weight, hip to weight ratio, and physical symmetry are the three indicators that seem to matter to males and all of those are related to reproductive potential. For women, it seems to be shoulder width to waist ratio and, somewhat, height (maybe for ability to protect offspring).

Maybe humans care less about "right time" and more about "right person"? But I do think, subconsciously, a nice percentage of attraction comes back reproduction.

I think women would still be trying to avoid the bullshit.
Such a procreative process is in effect because the species is still more heavily on the primal side - where instinct still drives needs, desires, impulses, and efforts.

If humans were cloven to such a fertility cycle, we would be more primal in other ways as well. Basically: we wouldn't be modern man with computers and the like. Too much time and energy would be put toward making it happen and ensuring it's successful. Arriving at an 'opt out' viewpoint wouldn't happen... because that's when a species has developed the ability to overcome natural instincts and subvert them.
