Needless to say, my avatar is not me. I generally don't want to be that "public" in my online activities, even on boards where I could be (this is not one of those). The Internet being what it is, I would generally counsel not to use a real pic anywhere (even FB). Even Beffer, much as I appreciate her lovely presence here.

I use my own picture as my avatar....as Beffer said, its a small picture and stealing it would not do anyone much good. I use to model for a "site" so my pictures have made the rounds, so at this point it does not really matter that much. If someone I know sees my pic here, or if my Manager sees my picture here and asks me about it, I will just ask them what they were doing here as well.

My husband asked me not to use real pics of me outside work. For many years I was Mrs Weasel whenever I wasn't the real me. My avatar was always a weasel, including here. At a friend's suggestion I became a lady in red, and another friend called me Grace. Last summer my husband took a shot of me woking on his computer and said I could use it. To me personally I can't see any upside/downside either way if you have your own pics in your page gallery anyway.
So culling out the gossip gaggle here who can sometime so easily judge others they not even know personally isn't an issue then.
It isn't so important to me what AV anyone chooses as much that it ist not the red/white generic thing.
If someone uses their own pics for their AV great, if not that ist fine as well.
