Message Edit feature

I haven't looked through the full Forums to see if this topic has been covered, but if it has, just add this to the other voices. Is there any chance can you add a short-term EDIT capabilities to your messaging feature roadmap? It is frustrating firing off messages with typos in - makes everyone sound illiterate, which is not ideal for a site focusing on literary content. Yes, I know we should all proofread better, but that is always a challenge in size-limited messaging windows, especially on mobile devices. So please, pretty please, with a cherry on top, could we possible have an EDIT feature? I'm sure the whole community would be incredibly grateful. Thank you for hearing my plea. And great work on the site in general - you're absolutely rocking it!!

I will pass your feedback/suggestion up to the development team; thank you.

Thanks, John. Very much appreciated.

My workaround, which only works if you discover the typo right away, is to copy the text of the botched message, delete it, paste it into a new message and edit before sending. I did actually do this once yesterday.

This is what I do as well, Joe... However, it would be nice to have an edit feature, as I'm sure it would be used a lot. I hope this one does not drop off the radar. 😊

The main thing with allowing editing of DMs is you want some kind of editing lock on it, probably once the recipient has replied. But, yeah, would be nice. In fact, the DM editor in general could use some sprucing up. My favourite forum software, Xenforo, largely treats DMs as private threads (in fact, until the most recent release, they called them Conversations) so uses the same editor and a lot of the same features as for posts.

A strange little something for Halloween.

I think this hits the head on the nail. Surely once posted, and you read it again, you can copy, delete the post, and then repost with a paste/edit; not rocket science. But once read, possibly even quoted, well opportunity missed. To introduce an edit feature, when the aforementioned is so easy to do... don't hold your breath.

This is a good workaround for members with unlimited messaging. Nonpaying members will easily use up the 8 free messages in doing so.
