The current list is almost right, but as I am quite prolific in my writing with lots of ideas and time to write, I would like to see a Novella category, permitting stores of up to 60,000 words, as the stifling limit of only 10,000 words can be frustrating. I have about 5 serials in draft mode containing multiple chapters, which will probably take months to publish here one by one.

Thoughts.

In principle, I am not opposed.

In practice, I see problems.

Most notably, many readers won't even read 10K stories, let alone 60K. So you're basically limiting your readership significantly if you publish at that length.

And breaking it into chapters makes it easier for readers. There's no bookmark feature so there's no easy way to mark where you are if you leave off in the middle of a long story. With it broken into chapters, you can go chapter by chapter and know which is the last one you read.

So I have to say that while I am not opposed, I am not really a supporter either, I see serious problems so would not use it myself. The site would really need some other features (like being able to set bookmarks within a story) for it work.

A strange little something for Halloween.

Short answer: No.

Long answer: it's hard enough for moderators to verify chapter upon chapter of 10K stories, let alone longer. Break your story up into manageable chunks please. And if you struggle to get your chapters under 10K, consider learning tricks from other authors to tell the same story in fewer words, tighter prose, etc.

Actually, there is. In the floaty footer as you scroll.

Over one million views on my stories can't be wrong, so please dive in and browse my 148 stories:

* 32 Editor's Picks, 84 Recommended Reads.
* 16 competition podium places, 12 other times in the top ten.
* 23 collaborations.
* A whole heap of often filthy, tense, hot sex.

Thanks for the thoughts. It's by no means of a struggle to try to get under 10.000 words a chapter. I write with plenty of detail most of the time rather than flash bang wallop if you know what I mean, and that means wordage. As I said, as I am prolific, the limitation means it will take months to publish my work on this site. I am aware of the full potential of upgrading, which might be a solution if I decide to cough up the bucks.

I only read short stuff right now so kind of missed that floaty footer altogether. I am never reading long enough to pay attention to it.

Conversely, releasing things serially means you have time to pimp your work in the forums and on your wall, etc to gain readers and followers who will await your future chapters with baited breath.

60,000 words in one go is a big ask for many readers, and may put them off.

My only issue other than the fact that the readership is not going to be large for a story that size is the workload that would put on the moderation team

Having to go through 60,000 words stories before it can be published is quite an ask. Obviously that’s more up to them than the membership. They’re the ones who has to do the work, but my feeling is there would be some pushback from those who have to actually moderate those stories

The Wild Girl anthology need not be read in any order but does take place in the following timeframe

Wild at Heart- 1968. The story of Dani’s Great Aunt Evie.

Wild Oats. Part 1&2. -2021. Dani is 16 and sets her sights on her stepfather.

Wild Child. 2025. Dani is now 20 years old.

I would highly advise against it, even with our bookmarks feature. Many may bookmark and not return for a story that length, if they even remember. More likely to remember with the 10K word maximum we have now.

Doing it serially would be more beneficial for writers. Readers see someone releasing consistently and look forward to it.

Seconded. I forgot that one in my response.

I can see the main issue is the workload on the moderators and not content or the notion of readers enjoying longer prose. I doubt that the entire readership of lush prefer just sub 5.000 word stories where there is no room for character expansion or in depth detail descriptions. At this moment in time I have about six new serials in draft form with about seven chapters in each, not to mention half published works with chapters pending. So at the rate of one publication every 7 to 14 days this will mean there is no point writing anything new until June 2026.
