Posting gif’s in video format?

I asked Gav ages ago about adding support for embedding GIFV images but I don't think there was a big enough requirement at the time.

Is this what you mean by 'short videos' or do you mean MP4 or some other similar video file format?

Short videos between approx 10 and 30 seconds in length. I’m not sure which video format others use when they make them. Most new gifs I’m seeing on imgur and Pinterest are videos now. If I think it’s worth it I can turn it into a .gif file but I don’t want to do the work ?

Imgur converts GIF files over 2mb in size into GIFV. They're higher quality and smaller in file size than their GIF file counterparts.

Gav would need to make changes to the site to support the file format. Likewise, if you wanted to embed MP4 files.

I would like this functionality, too. Adding an Imgur button to the forum similar to the YouTube one would be amazing. I'm not sure if enabling embedding high resolution video files would have any impact on any of the site's server or hosting resources though. A question for the stormtrooper.

you can copy the GIF link from the Copy Link section on an image i have added a new icon for Giphy support on a friends wall.

if this looks ok i can look at making it more widespread across the site.

Certainly it would be welcome in the rooms. I have seen members post urls that end in .gifv and of course they fail.
