Just curious. What are the criteria for being listed as a top author on the home page?
writing a story. and being awesome.
You can’t truly call yourself peaceful unless you are capable of violence. If you’re not capable of violence, you’re not peaceful. You’re harmless.
Sprite has explained it and now you are fully aware of the criteria. Obviously you wrote a story ... and obviously, you are awesome.
Congratulations on both counts.
But, perhaps there are others with a different view.
I wrote a story too, but I am certainly not awesome. I was wondering the same thing. I am not complaining about my name being on that list. I was just shocked to see it there. I have only written one low viewed story recently. I am trying to imagine a formula where I would end up in the top.
Maybe I am awesome and just didn't realize it. Mmm, I wonder what else I don't know about myself.
I have thought about this too. When I was posting Shards once a week, I was usually on it, which had NEVER happened before. I continued to be on it for about a month after I wrote the last one. Then I dropped off it. It didn't really correspond with comments - it has to be views, I would think. And the more stories you have out there, particularly new-ish stories, the more overall views, so I imagine that's a factor.
I think it's as simple as highest average score over the previous 30 days, although I'm not sure how often it updates.
I was told once that it was the author's total views (on all stories) for the most current 31 day period. When I was told that, the criteria did not include awsomeness. So, I gather that if you add in the degree of awesomeness and write a story that gets 1,000 views and ... you make Top Authors.
Any more questions?
I am sure that score is part of it. If an author has more than one story in that period and all have a perfect score, I think that beats out just one story with a perfect score. Not sure if views is part of the formula but could be.
I may not be a top author, but there is no doubt as to my awesomeness. I'm halfway there.

If it were up to me I'd get rid of that top author thingy. It's nonsense at worst and a misnomer at best.
