What goes into a Story Score?

I see that each of my stories has a score. Just over half of my stories have a score lower than 10. Is it documented anywhere how this score gets generated? I'm trying to determine if I should care about this metric.

The score is a combination of the likes and favorites each story has received. If you look at a story and scroll to the end, you will see a Story Stat panel that breaks things down. Only you, as the author, can see it.

Is there a difference between a like and a favorite? They appear to have equal weight on the score.

A Favorite is just a bonus point a reader can give to the author. As said, only the author can see what the breakdown of the cumulative score is.

In addition to what kistinpencil said, clicking on Favourite will add the story to the Favourite Stories list. It allows the reader to easily find stories which they may want to reread in the future, if not keep them as part of their 'collection'.

Yes, Likes and Favorites carry equal weight, and as a reader, you have the option to award either one or both. So you can give someone else’s story up to two points.

By the way, as an author you can see who’s been Liking your stories, through the Interactions item on your personal menu. So far as I know, however, Favorites selections are completely anonymous, and there is no way you can see who has Favorited any of your stories.

Ahh, I see you’ve come to the more difficult question. I think most of us to some degree struggle with “How much should I care?” No matter how much we tell ourselves we don’t, if for no other reason than protecting ourselves from disappointment, it’s impossible to avoid feeling a boost when a story scores well. And, conversely, feeling let down when one doesn’t get the hoped-for reception.

At the moment, no, but the newer interactions/activity panel (when it's eventually finished) does.
