Just saw this. It was awesome!
Das Boot. (1981)
Saw Trolls, loved it.

I want to see this one: Wind River

The Armenian genocide of 1915 has flown under the radar for the last hundred years mainly due to the fact that it occurred in relative secrecy amidst the backdrop of World War One. Here in the West, we also tend to focus on the Western front and pay very little attention to any of the other conflicts that make up what we tend to refer to as “the Great War.”

The other reason the mass killing of 1.5 million people has flown largely under the radar is the fact that the government and citizens of Turkey have done their best to cover up this atrocity, and to this day, refuse to acknowledge the systematic killing of millions as “genocide.”

“The Promise,” is the first big budget movie to tackle this subject, although most people have never heard of it. With a budget of 90 million dollars and starring Christian Bale and Oscar Isaac, this film will largely be confined to the dust bin of cinematic history. Why? A meager marketing campaign is probably part to blame. After all, genocide doesn’t really sell as many soft drinks or Happy meals as superheroes or flying robots.

If you look at reviews for this movie, maybe just check the nationality of the person writing it. If they are Turkish, you can pretty much toss their views in the garbage. This is a solid 7-7.5/10. If there is a drawback it is that the love story involved seems to bog down the entire story. I can only hope that movie studios will continue to push the envelope and tackle subjects that may not be comfortable for everyone.
Spider-Man, Spider-Man,
Does whatever a spider can
Spins a web, any size,
Catches thieves just like flies
Look Out!
Here comes the Spider-Man.

Is he strong?
Listen bud,
He's got radioactive blood.
Can he swing from a thread
Take a look overhead
Hey, there
There goes the Spider-Man.

In the chill of night
At the scene of a crime
Like a streak of light
He arrives just in time.

Spider-Man, Spider-Man
Friendly neighborhood Spider-Man
Wealth and fame
He's ignored
Action is his reward.

To him, life is a great big bang up
Wherever there's a hang up
You'll find the Spider-Man.
Bullet Club For Life
I saw Baby Driver and I loved it.
Star Trek - The voyage home
Star Trek - Beyond
Hacksaw Ridge

Just saw it, not horrible, but never as good as the original.

This speaks volumes.
Saw War for the Planet of the Apes last night.

It's the best one of the series I think. Very sad and emotionally profound in general. Caesar is one of the best characters of all time. And Maurice the orangoutang, Rocket the chimp, Nova the human and the Gorillas too, both the good one and bad gorillas, so well realized. Even Woody the bad guy was humanized and not just a bad guy, he cares about his species surviving. The movie is an examination of the futility of war. Caesar offered peace but the humans didn't want or were too scared to accept it. Such a good movie. Plus those special effects better win the Oscar. I really think it should also be nominated for best picture. But it probably won't. It's a profound movie. 10 out of 10 really.

Darth Vader is Luke's dad.

You can’t truly call yourself peaceful unless you are capable of violence. If you’re not capable of violence, you’re not peaceful. You’re harmless.

spot on review - just got back, and yeah, its weird using the word "humanity" when talking about the apes, but it's fitting - the film also didn't get lazy and go with what you expected - there were a lot of touches, both big and little, that took me by surprise (i won't list them - some are major spoilers). all in all one of the best movies of the year, and yeah, bite it, Oscars, and give Serkis at least a nomination for an incredibly nuanced performance as Ceasar.

I feel the nominations should be special effects, best picture and score. Even though serkis does a good job I still dont think motion capture should win a best actor since the animators are the real actors there (scratch that... "real" was not the right word, but they are 50% of the acting there.). If the CGI was shit no one would be thinking serkis should get a best actor. That said, a lifetime achievement award, eventually, I am all for. If he keeps it up that is.

Dude, look at this:

Dude, look at this:

see, that's the thing - he's not just providing a voice, he's giving a complete performance, including all of Ceasar's movements like walking, running, climbing like a chimp. if you stripped away the special effects, you'd get the exact same thing, just without the fur.

He's a great actor. I never really realized until I saw him doing Gollum on The Colbert Show.

All the other chimps were moving like chimps too though. Those are all motion capture as well. Just saying animators can add a tear, or embellish facial expressions or even the body movements. Motion capture is a guide to make animation easier.

It's like digitally altering actor's faces to make them appear more emotional in a scene. That doesn't deserve best actor.
Just saw Dunkirk. Very intense film but very good one.
Last one was Spider-Man. Great movie.. loved it. Favorite for the summer is still Wonder Woman though.
I just saw Dunkirk. I have to say I was a little disappointed.

I have never seen a movie that was so well made, but yet evoked so little emotion from me. I feel like I felt more emotion by watching the trailer than the actual film.

Visually, it's a masterpiece. I can guarantee that it will win many awards for cinematography etc. There is a nice scene at the end, some great imagery, but overall the entire package just didn't live up to my expectations.

I hope that future directors will take some ques though, because this really is how war films should be depicted. It provides an absolute feast for the senses but really provides nothing for the mind. There is an absence of emotional currency because the characters are just essentially faces on the screen.

If you do want to see this movie I suggest seeing it in the theater, because I think the whole package will come across as quite dull in your living room.

8/10 It could have been so much better with just a little bit of character development.
I might see Atomic Blonde today. I want to see Dunkirk as well.
Really wanted, I know, wishful thinking, that The Emoji Movie was going to be good.

After the reviews, convinced the gang we will wait. Same with Despicable Me 3.

Teaching the kids the value of time and money. Saving over a hundred bucks by
renting it after it's released on PPV. That hundred bucks buys me a bottle of port!
