I think the story voting system works about as well as you can expect. Nicola and Gav are tracking scoring to catch abusers who like to troll and low vote stories for no good reason, so I am all good with that.

As for as the Most Popular Story system I have never understood how that worked. So is that totally by vote scores?

That's what happens when you cheat on us with other sites...you web site harlot you!

Yeah, yeah, yeah...I've been slaving hard long hours for low wages over on some blue site you may have heard of...just sayin'

You know you want it, you know you need it bad...get it now on Amazon.com...
Lush Erotica, an Anthology of Award Winning Sex Stories
I think this calls for a further "two cents"? Perhaps we can charge everyone who wants to leave a score twenty-five cents? Then they will value the privilege of scoring? This follows the logic that people don't value that which is free. Women know this which is why they demand gifts and huge clear pieces of hard rocks to adorn their fingers and ears. They want to know they are valued.

Also all the money can be put into a fund and we can finance an advanced degree in statistics from MIT for Nicola. In two or three years after she has completed an accelerated PhD program in Stats she can seriously look at each and every flaw in the Lush scoring system. Oh and she can save western democracy at the same time by resolving every issue surrounding the fairness of elections.

It's not too much to ask that Lush deliver perfection? [Note: insert tongue in cheek]

I take the point of the original poster and I think there could be a better way of doing things (and a few have been suggested).

What brings me on his side is the fact that one of my stories is ranked as the All-Time Most Popular Oral Sex story with a grand total of... 14 votes. To me, that doesn't indicate that my story actually is the best Oral Sex story on this site (feel free to disagree); not enough people have expressed an opinion on the story to make that kind of claim.

I also rank 13th on that same list with a story which has been rated 27 times - twenty-five 5s and two 4s. Surely this should be considered a better story than the first, no?

That is what I think is wrong. When I am looking for stories I find the 'best of' pages to be less useful than they could be.

I don't think that a story with 150 votes should fall 25 places in the rankings because someone gives it a 4.

Now if the problem could be solved by a degree in statistics at MIT... well my wife happened to teach stats there. Only problem is I am not sure I want to ask her about this issue as she might read some of the stories I write.
Nicola...
please do not take notice of the comments here....
but please transfer this thread to the Humor section...(okay, note my comment only)

There is really more tongue in cheek references here then (or than) in the oral sex stories (Clum, I loved your story, gave it 5+++, and will read is as soon as you tell me which oral sex story you wrote)

I came here to learn to write... and I think I am learning.
I found friends... a nice bonus.
I shared a few stories and a lusty poem or two...

But I have finally learned that I stay here because I have fun.
So if I laugh, laugh with me.. this is not real life.

This is Lush Life

my question in conjunction with Buz's comment is: when someone does vote a story with a "1" or a "2" and it is obviously, with many other 4's and 5's, not a bad/poorly written story .... is it investigated automatically, or is that something the author should take to Nicola/Gav?

In my time here at Lush, it is rare to see a 1 or a 2 in the scores, though a few really crappy "stories" have had them.

And as a side note - yes, when an author submits their story for viewing, who knows how people will react to it, but sometimes, when you see a "1" on the scoring chart, you have to wonder if it's a story scoring troll or someone who is jealous.
