We are members of a 'Lifestyle' site and have met other couples from there who have become friends. As long as they are respectful and well mannered and their interests and expectations are very similar to ours and we got to know them first, it's a possibility.

I don't see why not. It's probably better than meeting someone on a bar or something. At least here you can maybe get a better feel for them before you meet.
