Would you like to see a Historical category added?

How far back in history do these stories have to be?

Would a story that takes place in the Vietnam war be okay?

Hugs,
Msyteria
SO effin excited about this!!!

Say. Her. Name.

I think this offers some great opportunities for erotic writing especially in terms of costume, setting and dialogue. Anything from Roman orgies to the French revolution and Victorian England...great idea xx
As a reader this is very exciting! Historical genre is a favorite of mine.

Why are they not typically included? Not historic enough? When does something become "historic"?

Okay, SERIOUSLY...

(I'm a BIG FAN of Historical Erotica...)

History is ANYTHING that happened YESTERDAY!!!

But that's a SIMPLIFICATION, obviously...

But let's CONSIDER... OBVIOUS historical erotic themes: Ancient Rome, Victoriana, Edwardian Stories, Belle Epoque (HI LIZ!), Prohibition, Gangsters, JFK, The Viet Nam War... The WARS I and II...

The TRICK to writing HISTORICAL EROTICA is to CONTEXT the story within an HISTORIC setting. (So you USE the language of that time while EXPLORING the mores and morals of the time, yet making it relevant to a modern reading audience.

Done well, (I'm still trying!!!) it can be HUGELY affecting!!!

We have some GREAT stuff in the genre here already... (A PIRATE tale/series I can't place right now is a favourite of mine!!!)

My CURRENT collaboration is an HISTORICAL story set in 1937!!!

xx SF

Actually, FUCK IT!!!

You better read my anal inquisition of a young suspected witch in 1478 Spain story.

Is there any gingerbread in it? In the story, I mean, not any anal orifices...

The suspected witch would be fed stale bread while she awaits her inquisition. During the inquisition, if her answers aren't satisfactory, ginger will be shoved up her culo... So, yes and no.
I like it!

Yep! I like that idea.
I voted yes. I'd love to see this become a category. I already have plans for it, when and if it comes into play. I think it will be a really fun category and I can't wait to see what people will write about. I really like history, so this will be wicked!

"Typo's". I love Irony.

Mysteria's is an actual typo... Are you sure you didn't mean't to type mean't though? Not the same as a typo, kiera. It's my new favorite word now. Mean't.

The category description should probably mention Westerns specifically, because the genre is most often split off from other historical fiction in so many places.

As far as time-travel goes, I'd say that belongs in Sci-Fi regardless of the focus. Even if you're focusing on the interaction within the time period, at least one of the characters isn't from that time period, or it wouldn't be a time-travel story. To one degree or another, that character is going to be a fish-out-of-water.

It's a Yes for me, because a couple of genre categories help with placing stories that cross a broader range of kinks.

As to the time travel element... the whole fish out of water was the whole idea. Everyone keeps focusing on how the person gets stuck in the past... but if that's just a plot device to get them there... and the focus of the story is the past... then it could be historical.

I assumed you meant something along the lines of the Christopher Reeve/Jane Seymour film Somewhere in Time?? I love that film and don't class it as being Science Fiction although time travel is involved, am I right?

YES!!!

That's exactly what I was thinking and I don't think of that film as sci-fi whatsoever! And I love that movie... always makes me cry.

Finally someone who gets it

I LOVE that film

I guess it is down to how Nicola wants it to go.

The mods discrection too..

I was told today that if one wanted to write in this category then one must be able to speak the lingo of the current age one is tallking/writing about?? I am not familiar with writing in Ancient Egyptian so bang goes my story

The person who has done the time-traveling is always going to be out of sync. If they're not at least reflecting on the differences between their time period and the one where they are, then what's the point of it being time-travel at all? Once you start doing that, the focus isn't on the past, it's on the sci-fi aspects.

The only way I see it remaining focused on the past is if the time-traveler isn't the POV character, and the time-travel aspects only appear at the end as a twist. BTTF 3 told from Clara's perspective.

Bless you, lad. I've only done one medieval one, although I did start another. The started one is a lesbian one, so I didn't get very far.

In that case, I'll only read that one if there's glitter involved.

Funny you should say that. I spoke to a Primary School teacher a while ago, and she said that glitter was "the syphilis of the craft world".
Can't find the website where I saw it, or they've changed it, but that "syphilis of the craft world" used to be a tagline for one of these services.

It's bad enough when used properly. Imagine having it spray at you from a spring-loaded tube.

Having a knowledge of sex was hard enough, now we have to know about history too ??!

I'd be ok with mathematical sex stories.

You really Dwell on some sissy shit . It's like you're tryin really hard to be cool but you just can't reach that plateau. I bet your mom can reach that level from her knees though .
Being a lecturer on history I would personally love to see more historical erotica, the roman era and Tudor being my favourite the possibilities are endless! Wenches and rogues aplenty! Hope it pans out.
I'm in full support of the category. 1960s sex stories, "love-ins", etc.

I think it will open up a lot of new ideas.
In custody.

I think this could open up a lot of great story ideas for our amazing authors. My one question is could this include a time-travel story where a modern character finds themselves in the past (American Revolution, Old West, Civil War, etc.)?

It's only a thought (at the moment) but it was the one that came to me when I saw this thread.

How about my story, 'The Red Dress'?

https://www.lushstories.com/stories/lesbian/the-red-dress.aspx
I love history. It adds an extra dimension. Many of my stories are set in the past so yes, I think that is an excellent idea.
Provided the term 'Historical' is not limited to centuries ago. Some of mine are set in the 1950's which can be just as historically interesting a period as the 1850's, 1750's and so on.
Totally (kinda) off-topic...

For those who LIKE Time-Travel stories, "Up The Line' by Robert Silverberg is a MUST READ! (It's got sex in it too as the Time Couriers get off on FUCKING their ancestors!) I warn you though, the PARADOXES of Time Travel explored in the novel WILL MELT YOUR BRAIN!!! It also has THE BEST END LINE of any novel I've ever read.

(Sample Paradox: You're a Time Courier who specialises in bringing time-tourists to witness, say, The Crucifixion Of Jesus... So you do it a lot. So there is MORE THAN ONE OF YOU present. Some are the younger you but SOME are from YOUR FUTURE in REAL TIME... So THEY KNOW SHIT ABOUT YOU THAT HASN'T HAPPENED YET!!!)

A little-known but interesting movie about Time Travel is 'the 1979 movie 'Time After Time' featuring BTTF's Mary Steenburgen... It features Malcolm Mc Dowell and David Warner as well but I'm not TOTALLY besotted with them...) It's about HG Wells chasing down Jack The Ripper in modern day USA...

Of course, Time Machines don't really exist. Although I did once date a girl who over-dosed on the Morning-After pill and woke up in 1865.

(You can have that one!)
