YUMMMY!!! John Malkovich is just... oh that voice!!!! Can I have him for Christmas?

Only if you share.

I did pass kindergarten. I learnt to share. So I call Mister Malkovich from the waist up. You can have him from the waist down!!!!!
Living life and enjoying life are two different things... just need to figure out how to do both at the same time to live it right!

I'm getting a little sick of people whining about either not being on there, or some conspiracy theories about their stories being voted down etc etc.

So how about I just remove it and be done with it?

I have not had a story posted yet so I don't know how much credibility my say has, but I'm going to have it anyway.

As when reading through this forum, people don't seem to be able to come to a firm choice, I think Nicola should do what is best for her, as either way she is going to have people having a go. Sod democracy go with dictatorship on this one.

How about we share left side -- right side, rather than split him at the waist?

I would agree with Primal that it is not really a "Top Author" list the way it is calculated...most Top Author lists have minimum story or vote requirements where this one does not...I have seen people with one story get on top when they get six "five" votes, so it is more a "Top Author of the Moment" list. Perhaps this is good. I also agree with his comment that competition breeds innovation. I can tell you for a fact that I would not have started writing erotic stories if there wasn't a "Hottest Story" list on the site I started on. I started writing them initially to see if I could come up with a story that would go to the top. Did it in two tries. I have continued to write because I have found other rewards than seeing my story on top of the charts.
Here is an excerpt of a story I wrote for the "other" site called "Smooth As Velvet" which explains how I felt at the time after "Morning In The Park", my second story, hit the top:

"It was also somewhat of a hit on the site, going on and off the Hot 9 list three times. Prior to this, nobody seemed to notice me on the sex fantasy site, now girls in three countries were adding me as friends.
I continued to write stories and post them. I became sort of hooked on it. It had various unexpected rewards. There was the reward of seeing your fantasy high on the Hottest list. Yes, us guys are very competitive and shooting for the hottest fantasy became somewhat of a challenge. There was the reward of the increased female attention from all over the world. Girls were also showing me photos, often naked, of themselves. There was also an odd sort of feeling of doing something sexual and getting a high rating. Sort of like, 'Was it good for you?' and having ten women all say 'yes'. It became an addiction I did not seem to mind. As I wrote more, my popularity only increased, especially after taking a stab at combining sex and humor."

So, that is my thoughts on the subject...that was written back in May...
Oh, and I can add that your stories do get read more when you are on the Top Author list...
Later,
Alan.

How about... get him on odd days, you get him on even days? And every Sunday a threesome?

John Malkovich?

In the name of gender equity, not to mention, sexiness, I'd like to write-in one (or more) vote for:

Charlize Theron

(gratuitous sexy pic of Ms Theron)

Now where was I? Oh, yeah, to delete or not delete.

IMHO, it's a simple equation: if the pain of maintaining the feature outweighs whatever gain it provides the site, then scrap the sucker. That said, as a writer, I'm in favor of anything that may increase readership.

I say remove it and be done with it for the reasons you have mentioned. Also it is meant to try and get authors to write more and improve their style, but clearly some people take it way way too seriously. Did someone vote from behind the grassy knoll?

Or retire it for a bit and see what happens, but keep options open to bring it back.

Even days work for me, but since I'm not into 3-somes that are FMF, he's all yours on Sundays.

Of course if we keep taking Nicola's thread off topic, she might lock John up in the Lush dungeon, and use him for her own (totally justified, of course) nefarious purpose(s).

Then she might assign us the company of lesser mortals, who have to-die-for bodies such as the French Rugby Team Members, but maybe not so much going on between the ears. Oh hell, who cares? Not me! lol

Drat, that means we are back in compet with Necho, the ultimate Rugby fan.

I like the list, it gives me something to strive for. That being said, I'll just echo some people above in saying I wish it was more clear what exactly gets you onto the list. Is is votes? Views? Does someone pick them? Not trying to be critical, I've just always kind of wondered about that... Either way, if it's a headache for you, get rid of it. Lush should be fun, not stressful ;)
Right there. Oh yeah baby. Right there.

Maybe John Malkovich is due an Oscar?

John has moved into second place. Maybe I shouldn't have added him in to the options list

I like the "Top Author Spot" because I have always been competitive... I really hope I haven't fallen into the "Whiner" category.. apologies if so... but I also agree that of it's stressful it should be removed for those that have to deal with the grief that comes with it.. hell I should have been a politician.. I can't give a straight answer.. surprised)

I find the Top Authors list motivational. I was on it frequently last month, and it helped motivate me to submit stories this month. Although I haven't achieved it lately I still pursue it.
H

Whine whine whine.... ;)

But I do wish it would require multiple stories to make the list.

Thus I voted to keep it.... but

But please do retain John Malkovich to be our voice for the male persona stories....

Some people prefer mediocrity over excellence. Like giving a trophy to every team that participated so they all don't get their little feelings hurt.

Political correctness makes me want to vomit! Competition spurs excellence. Set a goal and work hard to achieve it. If you don't make it get, your ass in gear and try again.

Keep the "Top Authors for the Month" section!

When I made the list I was quite excited about it but I can see why it may be a pain. In certain instances I have seen a really good story receive a 3 and wonder why and thus the author doesn't have a shot.

Mixed bag here and I'm on the fence with this one. No help sorry.

Honestly though, it makes me strive to write quality stories and that is what Lush is about right?

Not only do I get voted off it the second I get on it!!! NOW, when I was for sure going to get on it again with my new story you go and remove the list just to fuck me!!! BULLSHIT!!! Not only is this a conspiracy against me... I see it goes right up to the top.

i like it. it's nice to get recognition - admittedly, this is from someone who ends up on it a lot - in my defense, i haven't whined about it since the 3 bombing era - it's a nice ego boost, even if it's only for 20 seconds, but right now, to be honest, i'm sort of finding that stuff like this doesn't really matter - you write, people read - it's only stories.

You can’t truly call yourself peaceful unless you are capable of violence. If you’re not capable of violence, you’re not peaceful. You’re harmless.

Not being an author, I probably have no right to comment. But I think it is really nice that the authors, especially the really good ones get recognized for their work. And as with anything, someone will feel slighted by being left of the list but that should make you work even harder to get there and in the process, give the rest of us more wonderful stories to read.

And thanks to all the great Lush authors for giving me so much pleasure over the last year!!

Usually hell has to freeze over before I make the list and I haven't felt that chill in a long while.

I don't have any strong feelings either way about keeping it or nuking it.

But... this thread was started in 2009, so not sure it's technically still up for debate, but it's interesting to get people's opinions, as always. smile

I like it. I may not always agree with the list, but I think writers should be rewarded in a number of different ways. After all the stories are the backbone of Lush. People who whine because they don't make it, well they're just whiners and will just find something else to whine about.
