I would agree with Primal that it is not really a "Top Author" list the way it is calculated...most Top Author lists have minimum story or vote requirements where this one does not...I have seen people with one story get on top when they get six "five" votes, so it is more a "Top Author of the Moment" list. Perhaps this is good. I also agree with his comment that competition breeds innovation. I can tell you for a fact that I would not have started writing erotic stories if there wasn't a "Hottest Story" list on the site I started on. I started writing them initially to see if I could come up with a story that would go to the top. Did it in two tries. I have continued to write because I have found other rewards than seeing my story on top of the charts.
Here is an excerpt of a story I wrote for the "other" site called "Smooth As Velvet" which explains how I felt at the time after "Morning In The Park", my second story, hit the top:
"It was also somewhat of a hit on the site, going on and off the Hot 9 list three times. Prior to this, nobody seemed to notice me on the sex fantasy site, now girls in three countries were adding me as friends.
I continued to write stories and post them. I became sort of hooked on it. It had various unexpected rewards. There was the reward of seeing your fantasy high on the Hottest list. Yes, us guys are very competitive and shooting for the hottest fantasy became somewhat of a challenge. There was the reward of the increased female attention from all over the world. Girls were also showing me photos, often naked, of themselves. There was also an odd sort of feeling of doing something sexual and getting a high rating. Sort of like, 'Was it good for you?' and having ten women all say 'yes'. It became an addiction I did not seem to mind. As I wrote more, my popularity only increased, especially after taking a stab at combining sex and humor."
So, that is my thoughts on the subject...that was written back in May...
Oh, and I can add that your stories do get read more when you are on the Top Author list...
Later,
Alan.
I like top lists, helps you find better stories sometimes.

En vis mann slår aldri en hund i klubben med en stokk, fordi hunden vil vende rundt og biter mannens ballene av. I like the list, it gives me something to strive for. That being said, I'll just echo some people above in saying I wish it was more clear what exactly gets you onto the list. Is is votes? Views? Does someone pick them? Not trying to be critical, I've just always kind of wondered about that... Either way, if it's a headache for you, get rid of it. Lush should be fun, not stressful ;)
Right there. Oh yeah baby. Right there.
It's 2-1, Remove over Keep, as of today.
I find the Top Authors list motivational. I was on it frequently last month, and it helped motivate me to submit stories this month. Although I haven't achieved it lately I still pursue it.

Whine whine whine.... ;)
But I do wish it would require multiple stories to make the list.
Thus I voted to keep it.... but
But please do retain John Malkovich to be our voice for the male persona stories....
Some people prefer mediocrity over excellence. Like giving a trophy to every team that participated so they all don't get their little feelings hurt.
Political correctness makes me want to vomit! Competition spurs excellence. Set a goal and work hard to achieve it. If you don't make it get, your ass in gear and try again.
Keep the "Top Authors for the Month" section!
When I made the list I was quite excited about it but I can see why it may be a pain. In certain instances I have seen a really good story receive a 3 and wonder why and thus the author doesn't have a shot.
Mixed bag here and I'm on the fence with this one. No help sorry.
Honestly though, it makes me strive to write quality stories and that is what Lush is about right?
Sorry double post. Dang mobile phone.
i like it. it's nice to get recognition - admittedly, this is from someone who ends up on it a lot - in my defense, i haven't whined about it since the 3 bombing era - it's a nice ego boost, even if it's only for 20 seconds, but right now, to be honest, i'm sort of finding that stuff like this doesn't really matter - you write, people read - it's only stories.
You can’t truly call yourself peaceful unless you are capable of violence. If you’re not capable of violence, you’re not peaceful. You’re harmless.
Not being an author, I probably have no right to comment. But I think it is really nice that the authors, especially the really good ones get recognized for their work. And as with anything, someone will feel slighted by being left of the list but that should make you work even harder to get there and in the process, give the rest of us more wonderful stories to read.
And thanks to all the great Lush authors for giving me so much pleasure over the last year!!
I like it. I may not always agree with the list, but I think writers should be rewarded in a number of different ways. After all the stories are the backbone of Lush. People who whine because they don't make it, well they're just whiners and will just find something else to whine about.
When first came to lush I remember the Top Author list caught my eye, and i started from there when looking for read..
