"Pancake Day, or Shrove Tuesday, is the traditional feast day before the start of Lent on Ash Wednesday. Lent - the 40 days leading up to Easter - was traditionally a time of fasting and on Shrove Tuesday, Anglo-Saxon Christians went to confession and were "shriven" (absolved from their sins). A bell would be rung to call people to confession. This came to be called the “Pancake Bell” and is still rung today.

Shrove Tuesday was the last opportunity to use up eggs and fats before embarking on the Lenten fast and pancakes are the perfect way of using up these ingredients."

So, that's the history behind Pancake Day. I am sure most people have at least tried pancakes. And by pancakes, these are what I mean;

There must be lots of variations ands recipies for these delicious Pancakes. Which do you prefer and how do you take yours?

Post your preferences;

Mine are the ones above, plain with Sugar and Lemon Juice..maybe a sprinkling of cinnamon.

Don't forget to sat 'Hi'

It's gotta be a squeeze of lemon and a sprinkling of sugar for me.

*nom nom nom*

They were talking about microwaving pancakes on Radio 2 this morning.

WTF? Do it in a pan and flip it! It's the only way.
Fluffy and tall with lots of butter and a little maple syrop. And that's the end of my Saturday, if I do because of carb overload.

*unfriends you*

You can’t truly call yourself peaceful unless you are capable of violence. If you’re not capable of violence, you’re not peaceful. You’re harmless.

Hawaiian Style - loaded with fresh pineapple and coconut syrup. Mmmm...

Make mine crepes, with cinnamon mixed in the batter, topped with fresh blueberries in blueberry syrup. MMmmmmm...

or peach crepes!

or strawberry...
Protein pancakes made with protein powder, blended cottage cheese, mashed banana, and beaten egg whites that get folded in topped with toasted walnuts, sliced walnuts and a spritzing of maple syrup. They're super good and healthy too.

I love flipping pancakes.

(This one got the maple syrup treatment.)

Blueberry banana pancakes (you have slice the banana real thin) with Canadian maple syrup.
I like my pancakes with a lot of melted butter and floating in maple syrup with bacon on top.
Crepes please with lemon and sugar.
Pancakes with maple syrup and BACON? You Americans don't half have some funny ideas!

You toss pancakes, you don't flip them.

It's not American, I love that combo. It shouldn't work but it does!

Flip: verb, to turn over or cause to turn over with a sudden quick movement.

Toss: verb, to throw (something) somewhere lightly or casually.

I flip mine. smile
I make mine more like crepes. I love with lemon and sugar, but kids will eat with nutella, honey, strawberries and maple syrup, jam, bananas and peanut butter.
If I was going out for pancakes I'd get a savoury pancake with barramundi and lemon butter which is beautiful, or savoury with eggs, bacon and cheese kransky.
One of my childhood traumas was being diagnosed with diabetes and being told that I couldn't have pancakes OR syrup anymore.

We've come a long way, Baby!

Well you've started something. Laura agrees with you. I agree, semantically 'flip' makes perfect sense. I say toss because that's what my Mum and my Gran says.
