Yesterday was hard as it was my friend’s birthday (who passed away last week). But as luck would have it, it was also my darling DIL’s bday and she lit up like a Christmas tree at the gift we gave her and it brightened my day.

Robert Heinlein , one of the greatest authors of all time. I picked up "Glory Road" a Heinlein novel the summer I was 15,1966. I read that book in less than 3 days listening to Jimi Hendricks on my earphones attached to an 8 track player in my bedroom in San Francisco. I eventually read everything he published and created a reader who at 72 still spends much time doing so.

Wrote some terrific stuff in his prime, got a bit loopy later in life. I certainly enjoyed his work, even if Clarke tended to be my favorite of the Grand Masters from that era.

No more being first one in for me, I think. Sleep seems to be returning to normal.

My comp entry is rapidly falling to pieces and might need a heavy rewrite. I still like the basic premise and story, but it just is not working in current form.

Scott, I had the same problem with my comp story. I decided to scrap the first attempt altogether. Then the second attempt was 900 words too long and had to reworked almost entirely to fit the 2000 word limit. I worried that what was left was too ordinary. I almost decided to scrap it as well, but, as I tend to be my own worst critic, I listened to some friend here who reminded me of that. Readers seem to have enjoyed it so far. That makes it worthwhile to have published. Whether it wins anything? Eh, not sure mine is as sophisticated as some others, but I have grown to like my story.

Today is a busy day but at the end of it will be a celebration of life for my friend who passed away last week. Hoping the weather cooperates as it will be outdoors on the beach. Fingers crossed.

I just got outta Oppenheimer. Took a huge emotional toll on me. A truly incredible movie though. I can't imagine working for years to create a weapon of mass murder. And the test bomb scene really shook me. But I recommend seeing on the movie screen to feel the full effect of it.
