Come on down! Although we are supposed to get a major cold snap this week. Not cold by YOUR standards but downright cold by mine.

My sister and her husband arrive tomorrow for a few days. They live two hours south of us and usually come to the beach for NYE. She called yesterday to assure me that they will still come even though it's going to be cold. 🤣

Been storming here since last night but really just normal winter for us. Seems pretty minor compared to Kat's neck of the woods and dealing with hurricanes.

Pumped out 6800 words so far today for what was intended to be a Wife Lovers story. Approximately 2 paragraphs describe a steamy kiss and that's it for the sex so far. I might be doing it wrong. Having fun with it though. Maybe it will end up on the bluesite. Or more likely abandoned to the Heap of Shame.

We got a bit of a reprieve this year after being hit so hard with Helene and Milton last year. To say we are grateful is an understatement. But I've experienced winter storms when I lived in Michigan, and they are no picnic either. Be safe!

Oh hi.

We got about 9 hours of freezing rain on Sunday/Monday, and I spent a lot of yesterday digging out - and then recovering.

I worked on both our drive, and our son's because they're out of town, visiting the other grandparents.

Fun times.

But at least their cat was glad to see me – or the food I gave her.

Cats. Lovely creatures – as long as you feed them!

Tea Kettle is refilled and ready. There are pots of Yorkshire and English Breakfast teas available on the sideboard, plus all the other fine teas in the box. Sachets of Swiss Miss are available, along with the usual mound of mini marshmallows.

Big Bertha has been cleaned, rinsed, and refilled, and is now perkin' away.

Today we're using Lumberjack coffee from Muskoka Coffee Roasters, just cause.

I've put out some coffee cake.

Plus I've got some mocha cuppy cakes – WITH Coke Zero to keep Kat fueled up!

I'm chuckling 🤣 no arctic vortexes over here, although it is turning colder. Maybe a lot colder next week. The good news for us is we're off at the end of that to the Caribbean for a couple of weeks... Never been before, so not sure what to expect... apart from warm weather. 😎 Loved the photo, Kimmi and the hat! 😊

Tsk Tsk, poor Canadians always getting blamed for everything. In your neck of the woods cold weather is almost certainly brought to you by a Colorado Low. Our weather comes UP from the US. I will let you borrow my snowblower though. Canadians are the BEST neighbours.

Happy New Year’s Eve from the frozen tundra. Ok maybe not frozen but when I woke up to 40 degrees F (with a feels-like temperature of 35) it surely doesn't feel like the beach.

Hoping to find other ways to pass the time with my sister and her hubby. We have solid evening plans but the day was supposed to be “hang on the beach.” 🙀🥶

My sister is easy. My BIL, not so much. But the Michigan game is on at 3 so that will help.

On a serious note, my neighbor with Alzheimer’s who is in a memory care facility has reached the aggressive stage and has to be more heavily medicated. I spent time with his wife (who looks upon us as family) yesterday as she cried and admitted she's ready to be a widow. I assured her that she already is and that there is nothing wrong with wishing for his ordeal to be over.

Whatever I'm going through, I am reminded to be grateful for what I have.

I should not have been dropping into Rumpee's, or is it Rumpie's today? Instead, I should be "helping" in the preparation for our annual New Year's party. Guests arriving in 90 minutes. But alas, we had to cancel, as my wife has gone down with something approaching the flu. First time we had to cancel hosting anything in the 38 years we have lived here. Luckily, our youngest daughter has taken up the slack and is now hosting. I might join them for an hour if my wife is well enough to be left at home.

Kat, I feel sorry for your neighbour. I know, like others here, what Alzheimer’s is like. It took 14 years to fully take my mother, not helped by the lack of support/care homes in the UK.

My BiL is in surgery for his shoulder now. Dr said it’s a long recovery. He can’t drive for six weeks. It’s gonna be a lot for him and my sis. I’m trying to take on more Dad duties while they are going through the thick of it.

Anyways, still planning for a better 2026 for us all!!! I have an idea for what I want to be my 300th story here. Have some short ones to get out first.

Personally, I'm done with this year. Here's hoping we all enjoy a little more peace and serenity in the next one.
