'Conservative Judge' - Requires attorneys for the defendant in a case before him - to attend and 'complete' religious 'liberty' training before proceeding with said case. (This is considered the new normal plateau to achieve - under a MAGA fueled regime).

(Reuters) - A judicial reform advocacy group on Tuesday filed a complaint accusing a Texas federal judge of engaging in misconduct by taking the "strange" step of requiring three attorneys for Southwest Airlines to attend "religious liberty training" by a prominent conservative Christian legal group.
The head of the group Fix the Court in a judicial misconduct complaint filed with the 5th Circuit Judicial Council accused U.S. District Judge Brantley Starr in Dallas of violating the judicial code of conduct by assigning a sectarian organization to carry out the attorney sanctions he ordered in a religious bias case brought by a flight attendant against the airline.
That organization, Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), is a well-known conservative legal group previously not involved in the case that advocates for religious liberty and has brought cases challenging LGBTQ rights and the ability of women to secure abortions.
Jim Campbell, ADF's chief legal counsel, in a statement called it "baseless and intolerant to suggest that people of faith cannot provide legal instruction simply because their religious beliefs might differ from their audience's."
Starr, a former assistant Texas attorney general, was appointed to the bench in 2019 by former Republican President Donald Trump.
He is the nephew of Kenneth Starr, who spearheaded the investigation that led to the impeachment of former Democratic President Bill Clinton in 1998 and was a member of ADF's Supreme Court Advisory Council before his death in September 2022.
Starr did not respond to requests for comment.
It's a petty irritation that I can't post this in the Free Speech thread where it literally should be placed, because...
Anti-Press Hatred Is Alive and Well in Kansashttps://theintercept.com/2023/08/15/marion-county-record-raid/
...things have gotten much worse over the past few years. Hatred of the press has deepened on the extreme right, stoked by Donald Trump and his paranoid acolytes.
Trump labeled the press the “enemy of the people,” a fascist slogan that has now seeped into common usage on the right. Physical attacks on journalists in the United States are becoming more common and are now a signature of right-wing extremism; reporters who covered the January 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol were assaulted and had their equipment damaged.
Eric Meyer, the owner and publisher of the Marion County Record, was stunned by Friday’s raid, which involved the town’s entire five-member police force and two sheriff’s deputies. He told the Kansas Reflector that the message from police and the local political establishment was clear: “Mind your own business or we’re going to step on you.”
It is probably not surprising that the local establishment that is attacking the Marion County Record is at the same time supporting an extreme right-winger like LaTurner, who has not commented on the raid on his Twitter account. Meyer told the Associated Press that “this is the type of stuff that, you know, that Vladimir Putin does, that Third World dictators do.”
(The Intercept and other news organizations signed a letter from Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press condemning the raid.)
The unjustified assault on the Marion County Record is another reminder that press freedom is one of the most important democratic traditions under threat from Trumpism.
Right wingers started the culture wars over 40 years ago during the 1st term of Grandpa Reagan - gradually warping and folding this vocal mayhem into battle cries against POLITICAL CORRECTNESS & they amplified that in the run-up to the 2nd gulf war against Iraq (Dixie Chicks) and they've perfected it's abuse every year since then - while managing (in some circles) to convince their base - that the left WOKE liberals invented and routinely practice cancel culture.
I was curious what the recent kerfuffle in Marion Kansas was about - now we know. Conservatives using the local police force to illegally raid a small-town newspaper because the newspaper was investigating rumors to see if there was any truth involving illegal activities and they scared the feels out of the local GQP majority in the town. Who then sicced a judge and law enforcement upon them to seize computer equipment.
I wonder if those stupid SOBs actually attempted to gain access to said computers while in their custody.
Someone's ass is grass in this debacle.
Someone's starting up that proverbial lawn mower -

This is a good place to start.
The Kansas magistrate judge who authorized a police raid of the Marion County Record newsroom over its probe into a local restaurateur’s drunken-driving record has her own hidden history of driving under the influence.
Judge Laura Viar, who was appointed on Jan. 1 to fill a vacant 8th Judicial District magistrate seat, was arrested at least twice for DUI in two different Kansas counties in 2012, a Wichita Eagle investigation found. She was the lead prosecutor for Morris County at the time.
Viar’s DUI history could face scrutiny because the warrant she approved for the controversial raid came in response to the Marion County Record digging into the DUI history of restaurant owner Kari Newell. The Viar-authorized raid came after Newell complained about the newspaper’s investigation into her criminal background.
That judge has gotten some official help at many points in her career since 2011 (during another failed Republican CHRISTIAN administration which was burying Kansans in future debts.
She shouldn't even be a magistrate judge - as reporters will eventually find how she managed to hide her own two separate DUI incidents from the authority which would later promote her up the ladder to her current position. How in the fuck did THAT happen?
MAGA in its infancy (Tea Party) is how that happened.
Conservative or Liberal or something in between the entire political system seems to be off the rails. No matter the type of Media Trump is benefiting from every report. His idiocy remains financially viable as his supporter dollars pay for every mounting legal cost…millions. He stiffs everyone as he always has and fills his own pockets first. How can anyone with a modicum of intelligence support this maniac? He is without a single redeeming quality.

Always trying to make it as difficult as possible for Americans to cast a vote in an election. GQP doctrine
A Georgia city council member who promoted bilingual ballots for an upcoming election was censured by her colleagues just a week after the council agreed to allow residents to vote on her proposal, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
The Morrow City Council in a 4-1 special session vote Tuesday censured Councilwoman Van T. Tran on allegations of “unacceptable behavior and inappropriate actions towards city employees,” according to a document cited in the report.
“The city has received multiple complaints against and grievances from the city of Morrow regarding Councilwoman Tran’s unacceptable behavior and inappropriate actions taken toward city employees in violation (of the) city’s charter and city’s policies,” the censure document reads.

Even weirder that it happened in a town that appears to be 96% non-white.
“The Clayton County city has a population of around 6,500 of which approximately 41 percent are Black, 33 percent are Asian and 22 percent are Hispanic or Latino, according to 2022 U.S. Census Bureau estimates cited in the report.”

I don't believe any whites are involved at all in the Morrow dispute

It's just a hating post for hating sake.

The title of this thread was changed... The original title was "conservatives being stupid as fuck". In that instance it was the notion that something can "fly" underwater.
