what exactly is included under AI help.

I'm reading the criteria for the latest contest. It indicates no AI help, including editing. That includes Grammarly and ProWriter, since they use AI. Is there punctuation help that isn't AI? Are people who use Grammarly and ProWriter not welcome to post here?

I don't use them for much, mostly for comma placement. and spelling. I don't think I'm using it inappropriately, but I don't want to be cheating.

I'd like clarification on the use of those tools.

Perhaps these parts need clarification. If we deem you to have submitted a story to the competition which uses AI for writing or editing, you will be banned from this, and all future competitions, so we would recommend keeping any working notes and drafts as you go. If you have used AI to only edit your work in the past, we would strongly advise against. We will treat this the same as using AI to create and you may be banned for cheating.

For the writers guidance, is there a list of acceptable editing tools that will not be considered cheating when utilised, if any?

Conversely, is having another human to edit the competition entry considered as cheating?

If editing by a human is allowed, how much editing (such as copy editing) is acceptable before it is considered as co-writing? How about proofreading only?

No. Keeping this list up-to-date would consume more time than there is in the universe.

Use common sense. If you ask some software to write a story for you or edit your work to improve the wording/phrasing/etc, it's the same as if someone else had written/edited it. Therefore it's not your own work. Therefore it's not permissable.

If you ask some software or a person to check your work for technical issues you might have missed (i.e. proofreading) then there's no issue.

Bottom line, the comp rules state (and have always stated) that entries must be your own work. This competition is no different.

My next story will be called 'Sucking The Joy out.' (She's a lovely girl.) Joy's not AI generated, but she sometimes likes to suggest a different way to do something to avoid becoming too predictable...Poor Joy never realised people could get so draconian over something that all but a few treat as FUN...She's not the only one.
