"Can't" as a word is okay, but 'tis too often used because someone doesn't try. Or want to try. Now, around here, there's "CAIN'T" which I abhor as a word.

So, we have words themselves of which we are not fond, and applications of words which are for some reason displeasing.

An aside: my Mom hated calling potatos "taters" and so when I was growing up would call Tater Tots "Potato Tots." This made my sister and I snicker every time she said it.

"Has to" used by sportscasters as in "he has to make that catch" when they are referring to an event already past which failed. Obviously he did not HAVE to make it, for he did not.
