I enjoy writing my stories, I read a lot of stories here and on other sites. I think sometimes I become to invested in characters and try to make them more interesting.

I have been told I expound too much and should stick to strictly sex but I find that hard to do sometimes. Does anyone else have this problem?

I would suggest listening to your feedback, but writing what you want to. Do make sure you have sex in your story, but make sure it is meaningful. So, character development and scene setting are things you should consider.

Importantly, if your story is going past 5,000 words, think about breaking it into two parts, so your readers have a natural interlude point.

Thank you I will keep that in mind. I try to keep them interesting and entertaining

I will second what wxt55uk said but also wonder about that word "expound". Without having seen your stories, I wonder if you're "telling rather than showing" or have "infodumps". So things like paragraphs of back story that break up a scene or lengthy descriptions of people or scenes. Those problematic in any kind of story. Introduce details as needed rather in a long "infodumps". If there's a key piece of backstory for a character, use a flashback rather than a lengthy description. Or a dialogue where they can reveal the information to both another character and the audience.

Just some more thoughts.

Just call it "The Lust Boat"

There's an element of heat in this story.

Thank you I will try that

I'm in the world-building camp. I've dropped a few 7K stories. In fact, Take My Breath Away is so long that there will be at least 4 parts. As far as the "Get to the sex" camp, take that with a grain of salt. For every person who says, " Let Jim fuck Jill, there is another one or two who want to know WHY Jim is fucking Jill.

The advice to keep them short is positive; 1500-3000 words is right (based on the stories I have done and the views they have garnered). I will give you 2 bits of advice: Don't use AI, the mods know, and a lot of readers know. 2. Write what you want to write and how you want to write it. If you are not enjoying the writing "to fit in," then honestly, don't, if it doesn't make you happy

Thank you I appreciate the advice, sometimes I get carried away and keep writing. I am trying to slow down and keep them short and readable.
