*glares* what do you have against the french?

My grandmother was French. I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

(I hope it's obvious I'm kidding. Not about my grandmother being French. That was true.)
I don't have anyone blocked.

I did a temporary for about twelve hours because I suspected I was going to get a PM that I didn't want to deal with. But that's gone now and anyone can talk to me.

I wouldn't say it was a catchy jingle.

I don't feel any less British for not knowing any of this. Must be the Spanish blood in me.

True enough about the jingle. Although my bar is low for catchy. We had Head-on commercials here (Head-on, apply directly to the forehead! Head on, apply directly to the forehead! Head on, apply directly to the forehead!). It's not a jingle but it never, ever leaves your brain.

Hey, at least it's not French!

God's honest truth. Never seen that before. I've seen Go Compare and Compare the meerkat but never that. Does that make me less British?

All right...looking into it further, it's both the date of the Battle of Hastings and a catchy jingle for Hastings Direct Insurance.

So I guess it depends on if you have to know the date for the battle of Hastings to be British. Personally, I would say no. however, you must love tea and drink at least some every day.
Fluffy and tall with lots of butter and a little maple syrop. And that's the end of my Saturday, if I do because of carb overload.

I don't usually do this but I'm throwing Mr. Rumple a huge hug. I couldn't be more pleased to see an awesome award given to anyone. Quality people are hard to find everywhere and twice as hard on the internet.
Green peppers and sour cream.

I try sour cream every few years trying to develop a taste for it but no luck yet.

Does anyone know if ISIS is taken care of yet?

It's taken care of...but it's a secret.
I kinda think collaborations shouldn't be for contests unless the contest is all collaborations.

I actually think that 3-4 people working on a project together can write a better story than one person at similar skill level. Also, what happens when 3-4 writers with a winning track record in the contests decide to collaborate together? Is it still going to seem fair if they win?

Either way, it won't stop me from entering future competitions if the prompt strikes me. That's what I enjoy most about them: guidance for my next story.
I was almost 19 for my first time (with a man).

I was very scared of getting pregnant and didn't trust birth control. My boyfriend was much, much older than me and I didn't feel right making him wait years for marriage. Then, I didn't end up marrying him. Whoops!

My original post, was a bit of a kneejerk reaction to the issue which has arisen.

I'm still giving this some thought, but looking at the feedback, we may need to relax these rules somewhat. I take the opinions of our regulars very seriously, and am open-minded and flexible in my approach to how the site is run. It's a community, not a dictatorship (!).

The whole point of mentioning it, is that some people are getting a lot of editorial assistance. And making it obviously known. So much so, that the stories are essentially, partly co-written.

Is that fair to a newcomer to the site, who doesn't have any support network, and is flying totally solo?

We want stories to be primarily, the efforts of individuals.

I don't personally see much harm in asking someone to proofread a story, or them pointing out the grammatical errors. Particularly if you're dyslexic, or weak technically. None of us are perfect, and another set of eyes often helps.

It's the heavy editing and co-writing which has become an issue.

So, would we all be happier, if the rules were altered, so that proofing and light editing are ok, but anything more involved, shouldn't be allowed?

At the end of the day, it's an honour system, and totally unpoliceable. The message we're trying to get across, is that we want submissions, to be as close to your own work, as possible.

Feedback welcome.

I love this idea. It allows for stories that couldn't be verified in their current state to get fair advice from the mods. Hopefully having the work looked at by a friendly editor can make the Mods jobs easier.

I'll try to keep out an eye and be better about offering to edit for newer members. Because there's a point to be had about flying solo when everyone else has a trusted editor.

Sounds a bit like Miss congeniality award. Lol. But... I like it. Awards fuel incentive. After reading some of the heated discussions in the forum, this idea might bring about some civility... or not.

If you think that a badge will distract me into being good, then....ooooo SQUIRREL!

As another user put it, a mod expressing their opinion in a non-site related thread is perfectly acceptable and it is quite obvious that any rants or outburst in there are their personal opinion. but this thread is asking a question about a site related issue, and thus, most people would assume that any mod responding is representing the site. In that capacity, I would expect them to be professional in any responses and perhaps a statement from the first mod responding saying that while locking a thread generally has a good reason, the matter is being investigated. but not one mod ever said that. it wasn't until it was unlocked that a mod said they unlocked it because they don't know why it was locked in the first place.

And why did you bring up all the stuff about RRs and EPs and competitions? (which I note you have a multitude of, so no reason to question how they are given or judged.) not one word has been mentioned about this in either of the threads asking why the one thread was locked without an explanation. In fact, I even said I know how hard the mods work, and all on a volunteer basis. the initial question asked was just why was no sort of explanation, or possibly a warning given or an offensive post just deleted rather than just locking the thread. and my complaint is the unprofessional attitude a number of the mods have used in this particular thread calling people names and swearing and just a general avoidance of the original issue.

I brought up the stuff about the EP and RR because along with competitions and locking/unlocking threads, that's what mods usually get bashed for. I was suggesting that this is more piling on. And it is.

For some reason, you seem to think you have a right to know why a thread is locked. You don't. You're not at a customer service counter at Best Buy. You seem to think you have the right to tell mods how they should act. You don't. You've not the owner of this site.

I think you've actually been treated pretty well, all things considered.

I'm not sure if you're making sexual advances or not.

I'm super uncomfortable right now.

Feel special. She's never asked ME to do that.

Felt like it was, but maybe I'm just a bit tetchy today. Apologies if I'm misguided

Me too, actually with the tetchy thing. I think BC was talking about the thread in general. I say that because I like her and don't think she'd pick on you. ;)

Having just been labelled above as nasty, I thought I'd better go take a long hard look at myself.
However instead I took a long hard look at the Lush homepage. It's an adult social media site for erotic stories, it's not an ego testing site that excludes and discriminates. This is how it describes itself, it nowhere states you must have a complete and utter understanding of English.
Lushstories.com is a sex stories and erotica focused adult social network. You must be 18 or over to view this site, please read our terms.

Are you sure that label was specifically for you?
I do love this site for trying to be so fair, but in my mind, the contests already are.

This sort of rule shoots you in the foot. You can't enforce it. And what's the point if you can't enforce it? It's just one more thing for professional victims to call "no-fair" on.

Besides, an editor can't shine a turd into a diamond, no matter how they polish. Get a professional editor, for all I care.
I keep thinking this is the "Miss Congeniality" of Lush... so the Congeniality award?
You know if mods aren't allowed to have outbursts in the forums, and they're expected to explain why a story did/didn't get a RR or EP, all while taking it in stride while they're called unfairly judged (or worse) in competition entries...all this without compensation, why the fuck would anyone want this job?

And if nobody wants the job, who will you bitch about when the world doesn't go as you want it to?
I am so bad at titles and they are so important.

My favorite of my own isn't on Lush. It isn't anywhere anymore. It was called Two Weeks to Build a Bird and I felt like it might be one of the few titles I've come up with that's intriguing enough to get someone to read it.

Not my own? I really loved Serious Moonlight by Verbal. It immediately set a mood for me because I recognized the David Bowie reference. I also loved How to Drown Out Contact Passions by VirgoGo. I had to read the story to find out what it meant, which is what a title is for, after all.

I like this topic.

Joking aside, and going back to the original question, the blanket prohibition against any "help" seems overly broad. Surely there is a difference between a friendly set of eyes and collaboration.

I can even remember a recent contest winner thanking such a pair of eyes in a sort of postscript within the winning entry itself. Surely every judge saw that and didn't find it objectionable.
