To me, I label a piece of writing if it has things in it that could reasonably turn someone off as much as it could turn someone on (and not fit in another category). Things like anal to mouth. Peeing fetish. Step-siblings getting together. Extreme pain.
Try writing the opening 250 words or so in both points of view. Then, read them back aloud and decide which one is more engaging.
At some point in the editing process, I start needlessly rearranging sentences and then putting them back where they were. At that point, I call it "finished".
I rather enjoyed having a box to check. I confessed my first love that way ("If you like me, check this box") so it brought back fond memories.
As a reader, if I make it to the end of the story, I usually vote (a five). If I really like it or think something in particular is interesting, I comment.
As a writer, comments are always my favorite part.
I don't mind suggestions. It hasn't happened to me very aggressively on Lush but when I was posting my novel elsewhere, I got suggestions all the time. Someone wanted the two main characters to have kids (one was a supernatural creature, so I decided, no). Mostly I couldn't use them but one suggestion ended up being the epilog.
The oddest thing was when someone wrote fan fic in my novel's world. It was so strange seeing someone else direct my characters.
For me, erotica is always going to be erotica. I write everything blue under Ava Burquette and everything non-erotic under another name.
I guess a writer could write erotic mystery under one name and erotic horror under another and erotic historical under yet a third. Or give a separate authorship to more stuff. To me, that just feels like dividing your readership, though.
I remember a fair number of my dreams but I only remember dreaming about having sex four times. Two of the dreams were with males and two were with females; all of the people were people I recognized.
Three of the dreams meandered into some nonsense.
The fourth one was with my female best friend. I still remember it vividly. I came in my dream. That was what woke me up. It's the one and only time I've ever achieved orgasm without touch. It was the most curious and lovely sensation.
When bikes follow the rules of the road, I'll treat them like a fucking motor vehicle. Until then, hitting them earns me 20 points apiece. When I hit 500, I get new shoes.
