The legendary quarterback of the Oakland Raiders, Kenny Stabler, passed away at age 69, from complications of colon cancer. He was Most Valuable Player of the 1974 Super Bowl. He won championships in the NFL with the Raiders and in college at the University of Alabama. In the NFL he played for legendary coach & TV announcer, John Madden; and in college for the legendary coach Paul 'Bear' Bryant.

Snake Stabler was notorious fro being cool under pressure and one of those football players who no matter what, looked like he was having more fun than anyone on the field. Besides being a great champion on the field, he was notorious as a party animal. His party exploits are as legendary in Tuscaloosa at the U. of Alabama as his on field heroics.

During his years as QB of the Oakland Raiders, they were one of the NFL's most dominant teams.

Kenny 'Snake' Stabler is one of those true personalities that will be forever missed.

Sometimes when something comes real close but still misses I'll say, wow that was a cunt hair away. Would that be bordering on crass or is that still acceptable usage?

Acceptable. I always agree with Sprite. (She makes me.)

I think its sporting to use it. It does rhyme with some sporting words, punt, bunt, hunt, and grunt. Ya know, ya gotta grunt when ya play sports.

In sex talk, 'pussy' is the sweetener and 'cunt' is the spice.
Ask or suggest, but telling ain't gonna work in the long run.
I am married and this isn't something that is a problem in our relationship. But loving. touching, showing affection and verbally expressing your love goes way beyond sex. It's something that you have to do all the time. A relationship of love, a partnership that is a marriage requires fuel every day. If someone withholds any of that for any reason then the marriage/relationship will die. It takes both people constantly giving of themselves to the other in many ways. If you're not willing to do that, then your marriage/relationship will die.

If several decades from now, you want to be that old white headed couple strolling slowly through the park, holding hands, obviously with a strong bond of love, then you have to work at it. It doesn't just come to you. It's a huge commitment that gives back a huge pay off.

There is no room for being vindictive, holding grudges, being non-forgiving or aloof in a marriage. Anyone who holds back their affection to their spouse/partner is either stupid or a cruel, shallow fool.

The popularity of soccer/football in America has grown tremendously over the past ten years and will continue grow. But you are quite right in saying that American men have little interest in soccer. America has its own sports which, I believe, suits its cultural identity more.

The difference between American sports and soccer: American sports are stop-start games with short and intense bursts of action and plenty of ad breaks. Whereas soccer is a free-flowing game with slow build up and tactical awareness that American men just don't seem to appreciate. The north and central American sporting culture is worlds apart from the rest of the world. But why is that?

My theory is that American TV is hugely dependant on advertising, and American sports allow plenty of time outs in which to air commercials. It's probably a ridiculous theory but it's all I can think of.

There is just as much strategy in the American games, but its not obvious unless you fully understand the rules and concepts. But soccer is a very new game to most of the USA. It has only been added to high school sports in most states within the last 25 years. Whereas my old high school has fielded a football and baseball team for well over 100 years and basketball for almost 80 years.

In the region I grew up, almost zero native American born boys played on an organized soccer team, but most of them at some point played on a football, baseball or basketball team. On top of that those sports run by consecutive seasons and one could play all three, but soccer would be played at the same time as either football or baseball, further hurting the number of boys that played it.

Soccer is growing in popularity and while it has become very popular with school age girls, feeding into the numbers that can play at higher levels, it will just take time for it to increase its popularity with the boys. And you have to consider, fathers have a huge influence on fueling their sons' sports interests and very few of them here ever played soccer. My dad played football, baseball and basketball in high school and was unaware of any public high schools in our state even having a soccer team. He said at that time only elite rich private schools played soccer. But now, not all, but a large number of the public high schools do field a boys soccer team.

You are right about television having a huge influence on sports strategy, especially American football, our most popular spectator sport. When the TV networks figured out that higher scores meant higher viewer ratings, the NFL changed its rules to accommodate that. The blocking techniques currently used to protect quarterbacks were illegal throughout most of the history of the sport, but the rules have been changing over the past couple of decades to allow more leeway to allow the offense to block (hold) the defensive players. That means more touchdowns, higher scores, higher TV ratings, bigger revenue.

In basketball, the NBA referees don't even call 'walking or traveling'. When you see a player take 3 steps in order to leap and dunk a basketball. Technically, that is illegal. But the fans like to see those dunks, better TV ratings, more revenue.

But that does beg the question: when are the US men going to step up to the plate and emulate the women's success on the world stage?

In the USA, male athletes flock to American football, basketball, baseball and in the northern states, hockey. All those sports are much more popular than soccer in the US with men and those sports are what most American males put all of their efforts into. So I doubt the USA will have a serious contender for the men's World Cup anytime in my lifetime and I'm 29. It's not a knock on soccer, it's just how it is here.
When I'm out clubbing I'm seeing more and more of girls in the tall stay up thigh stockings and ultra short tight dresses. The dress hemline which barely covers the butt, hits right around the top band of the stay ups. I've especially noticed this over the last 6 months and it seems to be a fast growing trend. Is this porn influencing fashion?

There are some interesting points on this thread concerning the slang word 'cum'. It's always difficult to define slang terms as they have no definite meaning. But using the term 'cum' as a verb just doesn't sound right to me.

Used as a noun, it sounds great: "He squirted cum all over her face".

Used as a participle, it sounds okay: "I am cumming".

But used as a verb, it sounds awkward to me: "He cum over her face".

Furthermore, in which tense is the verb to cum - past, present or future?

That would be: "He came all over her face." Cum is the wrong tense for that sentence.
Vince Vaughn's character Frank Semyon sure got a lot more interesting. This was a fun episode. But that shotgun 'riot shot' trick on Velcoro was a cheap tactic to hold viewers. So Velcoro is still alive. I wondered if they'd pull something like that, but I knew from last week's scene that he wasn't wearing a bullet proof vest. Still the episode was very entertaining.

Regionally and culturally, I usually write about what I know, but it is good to try and stretch your writing. There are things you can experiment with. Its also good to write about something you have to research. You can do this this with time periods, writing stories set in past decades or even further back or in the future.
Sunny, warm and breezy, perfect for a dip in the pool.
I can't think of a serious pet peeve. But I can say that I do love the word 'cumming'. When you see it in an erotic story there is no denying what it is. It is easily recognizable. Its just a word that works and is proving to be very popular in the genre.

Slang has a very important place in the language and reflects reality. The truth of what is really going on in the language of today's society. We know the English language is in a continual growth mode. Established English dictionaries add new words with each new addition.

Cum and cumming, to me is a much more sensual, sexual, erotic way of spelling that word. It sells what it means.
Are we talking about in this lifetime only?

If someone friend requests you, do you check out their profile page before friending them? If so, what do expect to see on it as a minimum before you accept them as friends?

Hey, if they love The Dawgs, then hey! hey! They're okay!
