Whether you like or hate the Olympic games, I suggest that anyone be in a city during the games. You don't need to go to any events... just be in the city at the time. It's like nothing you've ever felt in your life.
I have been very fortunate to get to attend 2 Olympics so far in my life. As a kid at 10, the 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympics. The rowing events were close to the house we lived in. My dad took me to the track & field events at the stadium. I was a huge fan of Michael Johnson in his gold running shoes.
But I was extremely upset when that sicko anti-abortion terrorist did the bombing. I'll never ever forget the picture of the lady that was killed. She'd driven up from south Georgia to enjoy the Olympics and some piece of shit explodes a bomb. To this day I get so upset thinking about that.
My wife and I got to go to the 2012 London summer Olympics. It was especially great that we got to see athletes from our alma mater, *The University of Georgia, competing for the USA. Allison Schmidt and Shannon Vreeland of the UGA Bulldogs swim team were half the USA 4 team 4x200 relay that set a world record winning gold. I'd been able to turn a business trip to London into an extended vacation with my wife and enjoy the Olympics, as well as see some of the English country side.

It was probably the best overall day yet for the USA in the Olympics yesterday. Congrats to the US women for winning gold. I know they have a great rivalry with the Canadian women, who've had their number recently. So I'm sure the US ladies are walking on air today. Evidently, the USA & Canadian women are the class of the show in hockey and routinely put on epic battles.
Also, the US women cross-country ski relay stunned the world by getting their first ever Olympic medal, and it was GOLD!
I did really enjoy watching the US men in the ski half-pipe. That is an impressive comp. Some guys took bad falls. The USA got gold & silver. But I have to say, watching the 16-year-old guy from New Zealand that got bronze was fun. He was so excited, that teenage excitement. Bet he'll be getting better and better, becoming a major contender from here out.

*In the Summer Brazil Olympics there were so many University of Georgia athletes I lost count. And while most represented the USA, several were representing their own nations. There were two UGA female swimmers on the Canadian team. But Bulldog alum, Allison Schmidt, collected even more medals swimming for the USA, including gold again. She's a legend in Athens, GA.
The University of Georgia athletes that competed in Rio de Janeiro...

I do love the Olympics. While Summer is my favorite, I do love the Winter games too. (But consider I live in a subtropical environment).
