Oh dear oh dear, bad jokes is it. Alright then: A three-legged dog walks into a bar, his six-shooter on his hip. He says to the bartender, "I'm looking for the man who shot my paw."

Now, even worse, and as I am blond I can get away with this, "Three blonds walked into a bar, you would think one of them would have noticed."

Talking of blonds when I was younger my hairdresser told me I was a dirty blond. I think that was a reference to my hair colour. But now that I am older I am wondering whether the hairdresser had a second career as a fortune teller.

Just a tea for me this Thursday afternoon, while I contemplate a couple of Australian jokes for you as I have not seen to many of us in this bar so offence is likely to be minimal.

We could start with "What is the difference between yogurt and Australia? Yogurt has some culture." I think it is amusing but it can easily offend.

Of course all really amusing Aussie jokes have blokes as the punch line, and most Aussie sheilas laughter is tinged with the realisation there may be spot of truth in the humour. Try this for instance, "What is the Australian animal that most resembles the Australian male? The wombat, because he eats, roots, and leaves." Or indeed this, "What's the difference between a G-Spot and a golf ball? An Australian man will actually search for a golf ball."

That is all from me, for the moment at least.
Evening all, Wednesday is all but done and I cant even relax with a drink as I am going dry this February. But I will have whatever non-alcoholic drink summer drink is recommended, the mercury has been well over 30 C this week. Just perfect for Happy Topless Tuesday, down under.

Been a little distracted this last week and I haven't visited this fine establishment, nor have I actually written any more of my competition entry. Whether I will get something written that pleases me enough to submit is an open question. This isn't helped by not drinking as for some reason my prose always reads better after a few drinks.

And a pint for Curvy to steady her nerves.
I have none left.. I feel it was for the best ireland lost.. we don't do well as favourites.. perhaps now, we will go into the World Cup not a favourites and actually get further than last time.

A tea before bed would be wonderful

I enjoyed seeing rugby mentioned just after Superbowl, Curvy and Susie. Australia is already depressed about the forthcoming world cup thinking our near neighbours (New Zealand,) Ireland and others are in a much better place.

Of course if we really want to sow sporting confusion Susie and I could start a conversation about Gaelic football and Australian Rules football (AFL) which, though slightly similar, are unique to Ireland and Australia respectively and the most popular of the football codes. I dare say we can call the West Coast Eagles (out of Perth) the world champions, in the same way the the New England Patriots are now the world champions. Knowing which team is from Ireland is the world champion would require me to use google.

All this talk about winter sports seems of course not very seasonal for us in the South as tennis and cricket are the focus of the sports channels at the moment.

browncoffee and Green_man, I took the hint. Both were excellent, thanks for the referral.

I live inside my head. Yes, both my head and me reside in Colorado, but time and space are merely a construct.

If time is merely a construct then my submission deep into March could be claimed to be on time in the construct in which I am living.

And I cant resist going down under on your Northerners: don't you just hate how it is always so hot on Valentine's Day, those hot sticky humid February days. But at least the beloved and I can dine at an outdoor cafe, though it doesn't do the red roses or chocolates any good at all.

Annie the Aussie
The one advantage of being 11 hours (and how many years Susie, giggles) ahead of Ireland is that I can not only taste the weekend I am in it. Friday night, two hours from Saturday and forget the coffee. I will be having a chardonnay. As it is traditional to report the weather, in this part of the other hemisphere it actually rained. Yay, the lemon and lime trees sure needed it and the cooler 26 degrees C was a welcome change.
We all have different weather to contend with. The southerly just came through this Thursday evening plunging the temperature from 38 degrees C to around 26 degrees C. Thank God for that, the heat and humidity were kind of oppressive today. And February's humidity is still in front of us. Hope those who are suffering the cold snap up north are keeping safe.

Thanks Curvy for you know what, you are a great help. Another competition I see, I will have to see if I can get inspiration to strike.

A refreshing beer for me, need to keep hydrated this summer evening.

Annie
From the Australia is a weird place file comes this story, "A Canberra woman holidaying in Brisbane had a nasty surprise this week when a carpet python bit her on the bottom while she sat on the toilet... She called snake catcher Jasmine Zeleny and "kept vigil over that toilet seat" until Ms Zeleny arrived to fish the 1.6-metre long snake out. Mrs Richards said the bite drew blood but was not very painful and she initially treated the wound by washing it with soap and water and spraying it with antiseptic, then calming down with "a couple of gin and tonics" when her sister-in-law arrived home."

Now there are two morals from this story. One barkeep is that a gin and tonic never goes astray. So I will have one.

And second, as Australia has more venomous snakes than any other country in the world, being home to 9 of the top 10 most venomous snakes in the world, one might welcome the fact it was 'only' a carpet python. One of those top 10 poisonous snakes is not unknown in Sydney, "Fast-moving, aggressive and known for their bad temper, eastern brown snakes, together with other browns are responsible for more deaths every year in Australia than any other group of snakes. Not only is their venom ranked as the second most toxic of any land snake in the world (based on tests on mice), they thrive in populated areas."

The weather report from the south, milder today a pleasant 28 degrees though the humidity is high. Sydney will be in the 30's for the rest of the week though my eyes will be downwards keeping an eye out for brown snakes. Any chance of you northerners sending some snow southwards.

She's a day ahead of us and already in summer and she's complaining. That's what you get for living on the wrong side of the planet in both axes.

A red wine to end the day, please. I shall fantasize that I am lounging in Laura's garden as well . If I tried to lounge in mine, hypothermia would rapidly set in.NRfggkLEifL6qOAS

Cheeky, who says it is the 'wrong side of the planet.'

Well we moved into the new house and cleaned our old apartment in 36-38 C degree temperatures this weekend. Words at times failed me, but the air conditioning in our new place passed it's first test. Needed a swim in the sea (we are not in a price point that can afford a pool) which was just divine and are now relaxing at 4 pm on this summer's afternoon.

A beer would be perfect, though unlike my Aotearoa cousin I will be looking at the garden from inside, it is still too close to 100 F!!!

Hope you sports fans are keeping an eye on the tennis. The woman's final was wonderful last night and the men's final is full of promise this evening.
I seem to be the contrary voice from the south, it was warm oh so very warm this Friday. Susie, I dream of 9, today was hot well over 30 for the move. Apartment cleared out and tonight the first night in our new home. Unpacking tomorrow and cleaning the apartment Sunday is the plan. Monday is a holiday not that us shift workers benefit necessarily.

And I am so visiting the beach this weekend. Enjoy wedding planning Reece.

Iced tea sounds perfect to get me through Friday evening, but I will so want something stronger towards midnight.

An update on the weather down under, Adelaide hit 46.6 degrees today (115.9 Fahrenheit) the hottest temperature every recorded in an Australian state (think Sydney Melbourne Brisbane Perth Adelaide and Hobart) capital. Can I say global warming without argument. Fortunately Sydney was much cooler (about 30) but God know how the Australian Open tennis players will cope tomorrow in Melbourne.

I hope I am not the only Southern Hemisphere bar fly. I will certainly look up the challenge on the other site.

When I am back home tonight I will need a beer thank you. Though you must tell me, RumpleForeskin, is 46 is hot by Arizona summer standards?

Annie

A hot rum would hit the spot nicely, Rump.

I definitely promise not to be good ?

Raises my glass to Curvy as she enjoys her post work beer ?

Ah, time zones and hemispheres Susie, seeing you order a rum at 6:30 in the morning. And a hot rum on a day when some parts of Australia (Adelaide in particular not Sydney fortunately) are forecasting 45 degrees. And promising not to be good, there is a surprise, giggles.

Just signed the papers and have taken procession of our first house. Despite now being hugely in debt, I would order champagne but I start work in a couple of hours and a hospital is no place for a tipsy nurse.

Adagio, big hug. It is so hard when it comes time to say goodbye to your dog.

A juice for me, cheers all. I expect I will need something stronger after the packing and unpacking is complete.

Okay, pay attention now cause I'm only going to say this once -- mainly cause before I could repeat myself, I'd have forgotten the whole thing.. So here we go.

Hot chocolate with marshmellows for fridged Sara. ;)

A beer or two (what else?) for our Curvacious unit.

And for the deviant Susie, a gin and tonic double.

Now who else needs a drink or two, maybe three?

About to start Tuesday afternoon/evening shift for me at the hospital, so make mine a juice. Something cold as the Sydney mercury is well into the 30's and the humidity is something else. When I get home of course a midnight chilled cider or beer will no doubt hit the spot.

And Verbal, I liked the story on the other site a lot. Have a good day everyone.

Annie
Morning all, my Sunday should always start with a cappuccino. Interestingly I was recently in New Zealand and, unlike anywhere else (where chocolate is just assumed) I have been, when you order a cappuccino they ask 'cinnamon or chocolate.' Who I thought when faced with that choice wouldn't choose chocolate? But as they keep asking I guess there must be those who really would choose cinnamon.

Busy packing today as are moving house. A pain particularly in the heat and I will surely need something stronger in a few hours.

Happy birthday.

A coffee to kick start my Saturday. Different day and different hemisphere. Expecting it to be a little cooler around 28 degree (80 plus Fahrenheit.) The beach is calling I so need a swim, and nothing, not even tentacle stories, will put me off.

You got 49 votes! That's a really big readership! I took first place in a contest and didn't get that many votes. Of course, tentacle sex isn't exactly everybody's cup of tea. smile

Keep writing. The readers will come. Heh.

And I thought you were joking about tentacle sex in order to boost the spirits of us first time competition writers. And then I searched for the story and OMG I was impressed. Who would have though monster porn could be so inspirational.

Just wanted to stop in and congratulate the occupants of this fine establishment that made it into the top 10 of the competition. My first story didn't fare too well, but I certainly appreciate any of you that read it and commented. Now I have to decide whether to keep writing or realize that against the competition that lives here, I will never have a chance. Here's to everyone that entered, whether you won or lost....Cheers!

My first comment at the bar. And my first competition entry like you.

But I just had too speak up, and you and I are having champagne. This competition was a challenge, so much fun and we should toast success. Keep writing I say, the challenge is internal and I adored the supportive comments I got from people I didn't know, including one of the three winners. Like you I have comments to treasure and learn from.

In particular for me I will always treasure this comment, my first interaction with Meggsy,

Annie - you have captured the real Australia, the sun, the sand, the sex and the magnificent climate. Paul Hogan said "Throw another Shrimp on the Barbie" You have done a far better job. The scenery, the beaches, the multiculturalism, and our language may be English but very very Aussie. Your locations were perfect. The Bridge, Opera House, Palm Beach, Blue's Point all ideal in every aspect. The love scene between the two women was amazing. This story is a winner in every way.

I wanted an Australian take on the story and that comments (particularly the multiculturalism) gave me chills, irrespective of whether I was 11th or 50th. Having tasted that, I want more. So Sweet Reece, I will see you at the next competition. Keep writing

Annie
Congratulations to all the wonderful writers who contributed 50 excellent stories. My first competition entry and I loved that challenge of the photo and the generous feedback I received.

Well done to saucymh, fuzzyblue and browncoffee for your inspirational work. Amazing talent all round.
