That's because that's my goal - to be published. I know I can publish short stories but that doesn't thrill me too much.)

Just curious as to how you "know" you can publish short stories...I would take this to mean that you already have short stories published...

Btw, if you don't, you might want to give it a shot for a couple of reasons...for one thing, if you want to go with a major publisher someday, and get an agent, they're more likely to take on someone who already has stuff published...

The other thing would be, if you can't get shorts published, you might not find getting your novel published quite as easy as you think...just sayin'
Here's a neat little list of writing competitions that come around every year, grouped according to month, a very nicely done blog by my latest author Facebook friend Morgen Bailey...poetry, stories, etc...check it out my writing friends...

Other Stuff - Morgen Bailey's Writing Blog - Writing Competitions
http://morgenbailey.wordpress.com/competitions-calendar/

And for those who may have just joined up with us recently, we've been doing this sort of thing the last few years or so over on the sister site...

Stories Space - Writing Competitions and Calls for Submissions
http://www.storiesspace.com/forum/yaf_topics16_Writing-Competitions-and-Calls-for-Submissions.aspx

And yes, my friends...people actually do win these things, and get money, and get their stories in print, and get their pictures of themselves talking with Oprah plastered on huge billboards along the highway, all across the country...

Alright...maybe not the last one, but people do win contests and get published...two come to mind off the top of my head...Maggie Rascal won a cool $50.00 and publication a few weeks ago, and Archana (not a Lush member btw), won third place in some competition, which included publication in some print journal of another...so yeah, shit does really happen sometimes...and sometimes it's good shit that happens...

Btw, here's my little lesson for today...the secret to winning contests and getting published is...(drum roll, please)...

The secret to getting published and winning contests is...you have to actually enter stuff...

Yes, I know this will shock the crap out of some here...but, believe it or not...writing a story and leaving it on your hard drive will not make you a published author...

I know, life sucks sometimes...anyway, that's the Lesson of the Day my friends...you can now go back to your normal everyday routine...and have fun while you're at it...

I am guessing they will allow legitimate links to your ebooks, on the likes of Amazon / Smashwords, but I wouldn't bet your life on it. Someone might want to confirm with them directly.

Bet my life or your life Nic? Lol...yeah, seems at the moment there's a lot of speculation, but nobody seems to know anything really definitive...sort of reminds me of the Smashwords situation last year though...how this ends remains to be seen...

And btw Kylie...seems you misspelled "beginning" in your story banner...you may want to do something about that...just a thought...
Anyone here who has a blog on Blogger, and posts "adult content" may best want to be aware of some changes going down...I know a number of people on my Facebook friends list have gotten notices, and some here might be affected...it essentially revolves around this...

Google will remove all Blogger sites that monetize adult content, from June 30
http://thenextweb.com/google/2013/06/27/google-will-take-down-blogger-sites-on-june-30-which-host-adult-content-and-show-ads-for-adult-sites/?+from+June+30

The article states blogs will be removed "if they do not remove all adverts and links to external sites hosting adult content."...

What this all means to erotica writers is a topic of debate at the moment...here is Blogger's policy regarding content...

Blogger - Content Policy
http://www.blogger.com/content.g

It states "Do not use Blogger as a way to make money on adult content."...people at the moment seem to feel safe if they don't have links to external porn sites, but wouldn't selling erotic books on your blogs be making money on adult content?

If I had a blog on Blogger with adult content, and anything of value, personally I would back it up and save it in a file somewhere...a number of people have been getting notices recently, and I have a feeling people shouldn't be surprised if they wake up Monday and their blog is gone...just sayin'

You can't vote less than a 4 if you're a non-member. It's to stop driveby down-voting, which we used to get a lot of.

Oh, when did that one start? News to me, though I admit I can't keep up with everything around here...and I have to assume it's the same over on the blue site now as well...

I guess there's less reason now to switch to FC, which I hear is "sad and manipulative"...

Btw, we don't have a huge problem with driveby down-voting over on the blue site, though lately we seem to be getting a rash of story submissions where people are putting spaces before punctuation marks...

If I read one more story or poem with spaces before commas and periods, I may just want to hurt somebody...well, if you figure out a way to put an end to that problem...please, let me know...
Quote by nicola

I'm considering scrapping the option.

I strongly believe you should keep the option...I happen to know a number of writers post their stories with the FC option off, and then turn it on after they get on the Top Author list, or whatever it's called here, as a deterrent from people coming along and giving anonymous low scores and knocking them off the list...and yeah, it think it works to some extent anyway...

I think having more options, as far as how their stories are scored and commented is always a good thing...you can always point out the option next time someone complains about anonymous low scores...

And whoever suggested Captcha should be taken out back and shot...oh was that you Liz? I'm sorry, only kidding...
For my video pick today we have Mr. Bruce Springsteen, and I saw him in '78 with my friend Tom Arrison, at Madison Square Garden, and then out on Long Island...the MSG show had to be right around the time of this show at the Capital Theater here in NJ...anyway...Happy Tuesday...enjoy...

Hot stuff...they don't call you Summer for nothing...

And yeah, I look forward to the daily mail as well...heck, sometimes I even turn my computer sideways so I can watch the videos...

Yeh, Peter Green can solo pretty fucking good.

Yeah, I happen to think the Boston Tea Party album is one of the best live albums I've ever heard...I got it back in the 80's as a bootleg, but you can get it as a regular CD these days...

This performance is pretty damn unbelievably awesome actually, and I'm being conservative here...a bit lengthy, but well worth the listen...

Being a certifiable old fart, let me go back into, The Rock of Ages' for a few yet to be mentioned.

Submitted for your consideration:
Pete Townsend
George Harrison
Leon Russell
Stevie Ray Vaughn

And one group:
The Ventures, a group every guitar picker back in the 60's seemed to want to emulate.

I would think that since you've included The Ventures, based mainly on musical influence...I would have thought you might have included at least a few of the following...and these are not really in order per se...that would require more thought than I'm capable of at the moment..

1. Chuck Berry...no guitarist has influenced modern rock guitar more...
2. Bo Diddley
3. T-Bone Walker
4. Muddy Waters
5. Link Wray
6. Albert King...my personal favorite guitar player, and a huge influence...especially on the big rock bands of the 60's and 70's....heck, Clapton mimicked him note for note on "Strange Brew" for example...
7. Roy Buchanan
8. Eddie Van Halen...unquestionably influenced a whole generation of modern metal guitarists...
9. Pete Townshend, as you mentioned Reverend...his use of power chords for rhythm influenced more bands than I can count...I only have ten fingers, after all...
10. Son House

I should have Jimi Hendrix and Les Paul in there somewhere...throw them in as ties somewhere, since we established at the beginning that's allowed...
Last summer, Jack and Jasinda Wilder and their five children were deep in a financial crisis. In desperation, the couple self-published a series of steamy romance novels that started picking up followers online. In a year, the rookie authors had sold more than a million e-books. Anthony Mason reports...

Has there been one made specifically for erotica friendly sites? That's the issue with most of those places.

Yeah, that is a tricky one...I agree...certainly if I see a list of erotica friendly review sites, I'll most definitely post it here...I just happened to come across this earlier...somebody posted it in another forum...

I just heard back from them, and they took down the plagiarized copy of my story at my request. Maybe they're not so bad.

I've heard good things about Wattpad, they're supposed to be a very rapidly growing site, aimed mainly at younger readers...

Your plagiarism checker link ain't working for me btw...I was wondering what that was about...
Well...it looks like the cover has been revealed for Twist of Fate, the anthology put together by Indies In Action to help victims of the Oklahoma tornados...

I'm proud to say that a number of my author friends contributed to this great cause, including Lush's very own Magnificent1Rascal, who is also one of my fellow moderators over on that fine blue site known as Stories Space btw...speaking of which, I know Hulya Yilmaz, also a member of that classy site contributed as well...I have a feeling there are more contributors from the Lush Family of Fine Story Sites, but details are a bit sketchy at the moment...stay tuned to these here pages for more details as they unfold my friends...

Yeah, this pretty much sums up my mood for today...or any other day for that matter...

Good Evening my Lushketeer friends...is that Savanna I see here gracing this fine establishment with her lovely presence? Long time, no see there...I see you couldn't tear yourself away...yeah, I know the feeling...

Rump...pour a couple of tall glasses of your finest alcohol with assorted impurities and slide a glass in front of myself and Miss Savanna...I think she probably needs a drink after being away so long...heck, I know I do anyway...just, um, put it on somebody's tab for now...after all, what's a few bucks between friends, right?

Anyway, yeah good to see you back in this place Miss Savanna...we got a lot to catch up on, not sure where to start, but hang out here long enough and you'll figure most of it out...

Yeah, not much has changed as far as this crowd goes...same cheap watered down booze and slow service...Coma and Tose are still sitting in the same seats as when you last saw them two years ago...btw, nice of you to join us over on the blue site...now that's a classy site, that there blue site is...no bar over there though, strictly brown baggin' it, but we survive nicely...

Yeah, we try to keep it a class act over there...not saying whether it's high class or low class...but, it definitely has class...

Anyway...let me get back over there and do my hall patrol duties...make sure nobody's running through the forum with scissors...that sort of thing...see y'all later...

Thanks for the drinks there Reverend Rump...much obliged...

Cheers,
Alan.

I've opened my private gallery up so people can see my boobies and pink bits, here: http://www.lushstories.com/nicola/black-label/

You know, if you keep doing stuff like that...you just might win the Attention Whore comp yourself...

You might have to change your forum rank then...hmmm...would Lush Matriarchal Attention Whore fit?
Not sure if everyone's aware, but Author Central on Amazon lets you see your whole sales rank history in graph form now, for each of your books btw...makes me realize I need to find a way to get mine selling during the year, and not just after it's released, and Christmas time...one can hope anyway...

But yeah...anyone here with a Lush eBook, for instance, can log into Author Central and get their whole history for different periods...two week, month, six month, lifetime...that sort of thing...

You can do it for any book you're listed as being in as well...for me, the only Lush eBook I can see the history for is the first one btw...

Here you go - everyone should make sure their animations are 150px or less, otherwise the inbuilt resizer program on lush, will create a still image instead:

Alright...thanks Nic...I should have at least 10 million views to my page by the end of the month now...

Speaking of my page, have you checked it out lately? I have more potatoes on my page than a farmers market...and I'm not even the one who won the potato...
