This sounds like sour grapes to me. RRs are given when a Mod feels a story is worthy of such a recommendation and it's a way of them saying, "I really thought this story was so good that others should read it as well." It doesn't guarantee you'll like it. There are stories that have earned the EP that in my opinion don't deserve such an award... but that is only my opinion.
Perhaps instead there could be a "Readers' Pick" or a "Readers' Choice" that would fit your request. Now, when you say "regular members"... are you meaning "non-moderators"? (serious question here.)
Now, I know this would make a bit more work for Gav and the Mods... but if you think about it... a story that the readers really recommend wouldn't be a bad thing.
Just a thought.

Thank you, that's very helpful. I absolutely don't care about having another shot at the front page, but I would kind of mind losing the views and votes.
It's only the first chapter that I'd want to revise anyway. I think when and if I do, I'll just have it replace the one I'm unhappy with.
I'll take your advice about finding a mod ahead of time so that s/he knows what's up. Would the way to go be to find an agreeable mod, and then put a "save for so-and-so" message in the note to mod for re-verification?

Underneath the author's name, why not the mod also

I love Dr Who!! I was on holiday in California last year and wanted a haircut. I went into a random mall's salon, and as soon as the girl heard my accent she mentioned Amy Pond, lol. So that was us, we chatted about Dr Who for the next hour.

They are falling toward the Earth, literally in freefall. But the velocity of the object cancels out the gravity. The exact spot where gravity and velocity balance is where the orbit is. If you are on the International Space Station and throw a baseball straight toward the Earth, it won't hit the Earth, it just orbits slightly lower than the ISS, because the baseball is still moving very fast perpendicular to the force of gravity.
If you have a tablet, there is a free app called Orbitlab. Great time killer. You can create up to 20 orbiting objects, and some fall into the sun, some get flung out into space, but the rest settle into an orbit where the forces are balancing exactly. You call also blow up an object and watch what the fragments do. Very cool.

Yes, although sometimes instead of colliding one begins to orbit the other. The moon, for instance, is in continual free-fall around the earth, but its velocity balances out the gravity and keeps it in orbit (which is what Newton really figured out when the apple hit him on the head).
I could talk about orbital mechanics all day long. And often do.

think of a large trampoline. When you put something heavy, like a person, in the middle, it pulls everything towards it
That's basically exactly what is happening with gravity. The trampoline itself is the fabric of 'space time', and the person standing in the middle is then a mass that distorts it, pulling everything towards it. The bigger the mass, the bigger the effect.
That's why masses are attracted to each other. They aren't 'attracted' in the same way as a force (like magnetism), but rather they are 'falling' towards each other

Why is it when you have certain stories marked off in settings, do you still get notifications of them? Like I have clicked in settings, but I still get sent those stories. Can that be stopped?

For the record, in no way was I implying that trinket is a philosopher. Let's just be clear about that. She's just poorly wording an interesting old question that still fascinates humans today. Not sure what your point is? Are you saying we shouldn't discuss the subject in an intelligent manner because trinket asked it?
Quote by Magical_felix
I understand that... That's why I said yes, technically, it makes it a sound. But that is not the point of the question. The question was first asked by a philosopher, not a scientist ;)

Thank you for reinforcing my original statement. if, as you claim, your reason for being here is to piss me off, i'm going to have to give you a A for effort yet, ultimately, a failing grade. at best, your opinion of me is amusing as well as completely off base. that said, you're certainly welcome to it. hope that your little tirade made you feel powerful and good about yourself. as for hating you, why waste the energy? i have much better things to be passionate about.
best wishes,
sprite.

Hello RavenStar
I never got around to saying, but thank you for your comment on my story! I've got around to penning another one, so you might get to 'read more' of it soon...
