I found a sweet wee skellington video which I thought would be just perfect for the party!!

It's really well done!!

Unfortunately there's no difference between not-voting through apathy and not-voting at a protest - it just makes the vote of those you don't agree with even stronger.

Yes, I'll give you that - non voting seems to be a real issue these days. Why can't they find a way to make it popular and current? I mean, if you look at all the crap that makes the headlines in the newspapers and 'trends' on various social media sites, one would think that politicians would eagerly jump onto that bandwagon and make it popular, embrace popular social culture and involve their people, evolve into what their electorate actually want (and need).

Brand strikes me as someone who has self-parodied so much he doesn't even what he is any more. His agenda appears to be that of the Green Party, and I'm sure he's affluent enough to live in an area of London that has a Green candidate - so why not vote Green, they need as many votes as they can get. Paxman's right - how can you have a view on politics and democracy if you're actively promoting self-disenfranchisement?

Yes, I don't agree with the non-voting in that sense, and I do think that he comes across as deliberately rebellious/obstreperous in his approach to that. However, he is an interesting character, isn't he? People want to know what he thinks, see what he is doing, listen to him - he makes headlines. They care what his opinion might be on myriad subjects (well, I do and many people I know feel the same) and what's more, he's bloody entertaining. I've seem people crumble under Paxman's scrutiny, many times - he's a formidable fellow and also entertaining - but Brand didn't. He has that wonderful slipperiness that all the best politicians have.

Think about our current politicians, from all parties. Who stands out? Cameron? Milliband(s) et al? NO! They are blank, bland and boring as fuck! The most interesting one right now is probably Boris Johnston (I'm rather fond of him, despite the fact that he is a Tory).

Remember a few decades ago when politics was interesting? I learned more from watching Spitting Image than I know about politics now (although I wasn't quite old enough to vote then, but as soon as I was, I felt proud to be able to, it was like a rite of passage, my chance to make myself heard)- Thatcher, Kinnock et al - whether or not you agreed with their views, they shook things up, kept the public interested and I would be prepared to bet that voting ratios were much higher then than they are now. (you're more au fait with statistics than I)

I live in one of the safest Tory seats in the country, I still vote despite the fact that my vote is effectively worthless. Why should I bother? I bother so that my vote can diminish the vote of any BNP or UKIP candidates. In the last election, 2% of those who bothered voting in the UK, voted BNP - one person in fifty - a shamefully high proportion.

Yes, young people need to feel involved in politics and made to feel that they can have a say. Unfortunately most young people's idea of voting is something they have to ask the bill payer's permission for first. I can't see how one of the the poster boys for everything that's wrong with celebrity culture in the UK is going to change that.

So, we need characters like Brand (I'm not saying I'd want someone like him as Prime Minister or anything like that, but were there more like him, controversial, shaking things up, more people would be interested and likely to vote).

George Galloway was a favourite of mine (I've met him a few times, when he used to come into the office of the newspaper where I worked - he was sleazy, charming and completely engaging). He was always interesting to watch and listen to in interviews.

Tommy Sheridan was another - as a young man, starting out, he was so eloquent and had such fire and determination and you know what? He actually roused us Scots, got us off our arses and onto our feet to get rid of the Poll Tax - and we did! I can't remember the last time I've seen such unity (we need someone like him now)

The politicians, always so good at spin and backstabbing, wriggling and all that malarkey, need to accept the way that people communicate nowadays - move with the times and embrace social media, use it better to their advantage, rather than belittling those who are lethargic, lazy and do not vote (for whatever reasons) - after all, they've nurtured this mindset, haven't they? Only they can turn it around now (if they even want to)

Really, what I am saying is that we need more people who can put that fire back in our bellies, get us up and voting, interested and involved - characters like Brand are just what we need.
One of my favourites, which had me hooked right in from the very first line, was from the late Iain Banks' book, The Crow Road.

"It was the day my grandmother exploded"

Aaah, that was a great book...

He's sadly missed, Mr Banks...

A lot of homoeopathic remedies are a waste of money but I have never tried molasses so it might be worth a try.

Speaking as qualified homeopath, I can confirm that homeopathic remedies actually tend to be very effective in the treatment of menstrual complaints, but the important thing is to get the correct one. Guesswork in selecting a remedy is akin to taking antihistamines to treat erectile dysfunction - it's not going to do anything to help in any way...

Some of the major polychrest remedies, such as Sepia, Pulsatilla or Natrum Muriaticum will work well for most people and be as effective as the likes of Ibuprofen, when bought as "over the counter" remedies and self administered.

However, in most cases, it's advisable to have a consultation with a homeopath, as they will be able to see the "bigger picture".

A few consultations with a homeopath can not only reduce or eliminate cramping, they can regulate your periods, even out the flow, balance PMS and moods, get sleep patterns around that time to less unsettled etc etc.

Because everyone is different and no two people "do" menstruation in quite the same way, an holistic approach can be very helpful, taking into account concomitant symptoms such as headaches, bloating, water retention etc etc etc...

In my experience, the above is ultimately very treatable and can make a huge difference, especially in cases where the symptoms are severe, which they can be for some women, pretty much putting them out of action for a week or so every month...

(feel free to PM me if you are interested in finding out more)

WOMEN IN THEIR PMS!?

RUN!!!

You know, it's exactly that sort of lack of understanding and sweeping statements that exacerbate our PMS...

We aren't always initially aware that we're suffering from PMS, not right away at least, and the understanding of a partner can actually make a huge difference to our emotions at that time of the month...

Anyone who knows me well, will be aware that I can get a little tetchy before my period, but as soon as I become aware that it's PMS, it becomes a lot easier to handle. (Dunno if any of the other ladies get that too? Moods settling once you realise what's going on?)

An understanding partner will support, rather than run away and I'm telling you, it's the difference between axe-wielding or lovemaking to me, personally...

People like writing with each other, so a collaborations category would be cool. I'm not sure how it would work, but it could be set up in some way that would allow both authors a credit, rather than having to put it in the body of the story or the one liner. It would probably be a pain in the arse to implement, but it would be very much appreciated.

I've also written with others - I think a collaborations category is a good idea, but what I'd really like to see a way of both authors being able to display the link to their joint work on their profile page.

I imagine you could have the same link on each writer's page, which, when clicked, would lead to and open the same story page - ie, the story would get the same number of views/votes/scores etc, regardless of whose page you had opened the link from?
(In much the same way as you can open a story from the front page, from the category in which it's contained, from the author's profile, from the top picks section, from the competition page, from a link in the forums/forum sig etc etc- you know what I mean?)

I just think that it would be great for both authors to be able to display what they had worked on, rather than having to decide who gets to post it...

To expand on what is right here^^

If I'm in a relationship with someone, I'm not interested in some random guy. Period.

Same here, when I'm with someone, I wouldn't want anyone else...

If I was interested in other people, then the guy I'm with obviously ain't doing it for me and it would be better to just call it a day...

Hmmm, I find stories that are just read out a tad boring, like how does one read out an orgasm? It's so much hotter to hear a genuine orgasm...

Personally, I don't "write" orgasms into my stories, rather I describe the build up, feelings etc - I dislike the "OOOOOOOOGHAAAARGH I'M CUMMING" sort of dialogue...

Nope. Everyone that I've listened to makes me laugh hysterically until I shut it off.

Now a few well written stories that have an audio version are wow. Listen to mazza, shy lass, or jeyne. That's how audio should sound!

Thanks honey! You are sweet!!

I have recorded quite a lot of audios - I actually hate the sound of my voice, but I got such good feedback on my stories/audios here, that it really encouraged me to do more. I've actually been recruited to do paid audio work on the strength of the work I've done here - not saucy ones, I hasten to add.

I'm also very proud to say that I've been asked to voice stories written by others - which is a huge compliment (although I generally reserve the right to ask for edits on the story/poem)

I'd say that I get pretty much even feedback from male and female listeners, saying how they've "enjoyed" the stories (I try not to think about that too much ha ha ha - rather, I visualise them sitting quietly, hands folded, fully dressed, knitting or embroidering or something wholesome - I know that's not always the case though)

Among the audio stories I've listened to, the people I enjoy are Shylass, Saga, Laura_lee_sugah, Frank_Lee - to name but a few... I don't really want to hear someone pretending to have an orgasm or whatever - I can imagine that for myself. I do wish there were more quality male audios though - that would be a nice addition to what we already have available...

I don't listen to them to get off, but then, I don't read to get off either...

Does no one use fucking punctuation any more???

Or spell check?

Or think about grammar???

Or tense shifts??

Or what they are putting out there?

Is it fashionable not to punctuate nowadays? Does it matter if you use there, they're or their, or whatever?

Seriously, no one seems to give a shit any more... It's pathetic....

I realise this makes me sound like a grumpy old bitch, but seriously, take some fucking pride in what you do and pay attention...

Actually, I'd like to amend this...

SOME people do have the skill to do it this way; the lines will naturally break, thus punctuation becomes less necessary - you can accept it in those cases, admire it even... The appearance of commas, periods etc would only detract from the beauty and simplicity of what's been written...

Others though just do it (IMHO) because they lack the skill, finesse, knowledge to do it and seem to simply be following a current fashionable trend...

There is a big difference...

Not using punctuation on a line end or in an entire poem often speaks to me of a fast pace and limited pauses. Sometimes a different tempo emerges via word choice but overall if you don’t have punctuation on a line or in a poem, I will generally assume you want me to read each line straight through without pause or stopping for breath.

I think this is the best use of no punctuation. Sometimes a piece benefits from having very little or none, and sometimes they suffer. The context, word choice, and presentation matter greatly to the effect of how punctuation will enhance or hinder a given poem. Use this “punctuation” wisely
