Ok. Thanks. I've had a couple of inexplicable low scores although I've now set it so that scores have to be accompanied by a comment. I'm happy to have feedback but I suspect some people actively seek out stories they know they won't like to score them lowly.

While I totally agree with you on the desire to get some feedback on your stories (especially if there is a problem that you need to be made aware of)... I have found that some will shy away from voting becasue of the "forced comment". However, if this is the act of a troll, then you must do what you feel is necessary.
May 2017 bring you all joy, blessings, and hot sex (or at least some hot, sexy stories.)

Maybe we can solve your stress with an alternate approach. I wonder if authors get to see the number of votes made on their comp entries. I don't see adverse effect with this, does anyone else?

OMG! Thank you Gav!!! I had just gotten two new comments on my Comp Entry and when I checked my timeline I saw this: A score has been made on your story Getting Off giving it a total of 49 votes.

That is exactly what I was hoping for!!!

Quote by oceanrunner
Oh, I think I get it now. If you're at 8 votes, and you know you're at 8 votes, knowing that fact doesn't get you to the required 10, or whatever it is.

But, I think what was being requested was a tally so that when you did get to 10, if it was close, you could relax and breath a sigh of relief. And potentially if you were at 8 or 9 or what have you, you could try to drum up some readers through your friends to get you over the hump.

EXACTLY!!!

I don't need to know who voted on my story if it's a comp entry so long as I make the minimum number (which for most comps here is 10.) I know I worry that my story will fall short as do other authors (based on the quantity of I get) and I'd rather not bother my friends if that is not necessary.

While many who vote also comment... this is not always a given. Some comment, but don't vote. Some vote, but don't comment.

Hence why I said if we can get a blurb on our timelines that says something silly like, "Congratulations! Your comp entry has earned 10 votes!" would ease a lot of fears. My friends and fans don't need to know this... just me (or any other author willing to enter the comps.)

Good to know, thanks! I prefer working in google, but I can switch over to Word if necessary. I may try copying to Word from Google, and from Word to Lush. Has anyone tried it that way?

I have. I type all of my stories in Word then copy and paste them into Lush. On my last story... the tab indents were still there and Ruthie had me remove them because it was a Comp Entry & she wasn't allowed to do that (and thank you for bringing this to my attention, Ruthie.)

The other issue I had was the way the paragraphs were spaced. That issue has since been resolved. All I can do in the future is to make sure that my tab intents don't carry over. In all truth... that's a minor correction versus the old issue of words being fused together and the word-count never being accurate which was always an issue when Nicola puts a word limit on the comp entries (like she did with this last one.)

Hope this answers your question.

Thanks NW, but actually, it won't. the team is fully capable of shining just perfectly without me around. everyone of them could step up and easily run the place without a single hiccup. [serious]

I know... but I also know that without you... there is a void that will exist until your return. Get well soon my friend.
Quote by sprite
actually, i'm on leave until further notice. they're on their own. probably throwing a huge party right now. [serious]

I had no idea Rach... get well soon because you & I both know it will be mayhem until you return.

you can always ask me. i'll lie and say you've got 10+. no extra charge [humor]

But you're so busy cracking the whip over those lazy Mods asses.

Whatever works best for all. Now that the comp has closed I see I had more than enough votes. That being said... I won't lie... I do stress every time I enter. I get the scores are to be hidden (and that's fine), but I just would like to know I qualified. However, I'm only speaking for myself here. I just want to know that I don't need to my friends if I'm already above the minimum 10.

1. yes, it's happened. i know that for a fact having to deal with such issues [serious]

2. Monitoring how many votes you get won't change the vote count. [serious]

1. I suspected as much and this is why I think this new policy of voting will help. I don't for one second question the seriousness of this issue.

2. My point was solely with those who enter the comps. I know for me I worry that I won't have enough votes to qualify (per the rules you must have a minimum of 10 votes.) We don't find out how many votes we get until after the comp closes (and yes, how we got scored overall.) I don't need to know who voted for my story (unless the tell me personally) as much as I'd like to know that I earned the necessary 10 votes and can stop stressing about if my story qualified. While I can't speak for any one else... I'm sure it would be a nice thing to know that their story did make the 10 vote minimum cut.

Gav... if you could please... consider a blurb in our timelines for just this issue.

as of now, all voting will not show up on the time line and cannot be tracked by members. [serious]*

The only time I track scores is when I've entered the comp. However, I do see Trinket's point and thus, I think this will help bring forth more honest scores. After all, there have been "claims" that if someone scores a story with less than a 5, they are harassed. I have no idea how true this is, but if there is even an ounce of truth, then this is a good thing.

So, with this in mind... is there a way that when we enter the comps we can get something on our timelines that tells if that our story has reached the minimum number of votes (like, "Your comp entry has reached the minimum number of votes.") This way we know we've qualified without knowing who voted.

While I often the the "one comment=one vote" method... I have had some not comment when they vote... or not vote when they comment. This way Trinket's suggestion is not ruined (because I think it was a good idea too) and still allows those of us in the comps that moment of relief that we qualified (especially for those who post their stories toward the end.)

I can wait for the score... I just need to know I got the quantity of votes.
Oh the lies you have told... for shame. I'll bet you didn't count on the fact I'd find out the truth, did you? Keep the fucking money I sent you. I was too caught up in the moment to realize how badly you were using me... but now I see the truth. Why I ever thought you'd never turn on me is a mystery? The writing was on the wall. In looking back... you turned on me every chance you got... but because of who you are... I forgave you and took the blame. Well... no longer! I'm not your punching bag... I'm not your ATM... and I'm not interested in your bullshit and drama.

I know you lied to me about the house. I know you lied to me about what you needed the money for and what you really used it for. I know you still haven't dealt with your debt issues and you were the one who gave your creditors my name and phone numbers.

As far as I'm concerned... you have proven who you really are... and it's not who you claim to be. You are in dire need of professional help. Don't bother calling me for bail money when your bullshit catches up with you. I am done with you.

Correct. It was just a thrown-together photoshop mock-up from three years ago, an example of what I had in mind. The whole concept needs a lot of work.

A few basic controls would be better than none, though, so I still think it would be a welcome addition.

It's a step in the right direction and as it gets rolled out... can be tweaked to meet the needs of the majority of our members.

Whether I struggle with sarcasm or not, why would anyone take what I posted personally?

It seems you did... why else would you feel the need to say something?

Quote by trinket
I didn't take it personally but Nympho knows there have been times (a hella lot) where I have done so. Im a crybaby. apparently.

I wasn't inferring you were a crybaby Trinket... just trying to have your back. It seems I got more of a reaction from Noll than I expected.

Oh shit... just saw Liz's post... so, to honor her request... someone had suggested smartly that we should have a way to change the background color to make the reading easier. Black text on a white background is by far the most difficult (even though it's the standard). Having the option of say, sepia or something else would be nice (and yes Gav... I know that means more work for you... it's just a suggestion & nothing more.)
Quote by trinket
I was joking Noll.

Noll struggles with sarcasm. Don't take it personally. I giggled at your Shark Tank suggestion.
When I submitted my comp entry, I had written it in Word first, then copy & pasted it into Lush. This is the same thing I've done since I joined Lush. This time, it kept the indents for the paragraphs. Ruthie brought this to my attention and had me remove them. This was a first for me. In the past, my paragraphs would be separated by a blank space, this seems to no longer exist unless they are added (not a big deal.) However, the intent thing was new. It's an easy fix, but it is new.

I was just answering a question. I don't feel the need to bother the mods if I get one when I can just not read it and ignore it. That said I haven't had one in a very long time. If someone has you blocked they shouldn't be able to email you IMHO.

I agree. I even said you made a valid point. I agree that if person X has gone through the trouble of blocking person Y, they shouldn't be allowed to PM them. If they are... the Mods should be notified. That's called harassment. The person who's question you answered is correct... the person who has blocked them should not be able to PM them at all.

I suspect (thought I don't know for certain mind you) that they (or at the very least... Gav) know if someone has someone else blocked and if they are removing that block just to harass that member. Perhaps this is something Gav can address. And unless this is a one-time thing (which I highly doubt it is considering who the original poster was), it needs to be brought to the attention of the Mods. A rare, one-time mistake can be ignored... but on going PMs that can't be replied to is just wrong... regardless who is being targeted.
Quote by kiera
I don't think that will make a difference because they can just unblock you send the email then re-block you, it's annoying.

You make a valid point... but isn't that why there is the "Report Message" button? If someone is PMing you and they have you blocked... isn't that a form of harassment? Thus, notify the Mods and let them deal with it. I'm sure it would be a quick fix & I have a lot of faith in our awesome Mods.

I would strongly oppose that and in fact not accept it. That should be private. Many people wouldn't put up with it and leave. The only cases where someone's voting record should be made public is if they are an elected politician and their votes on laws should be available to their constituents. Other than that doing such thing is an invasion of privacy. I am very sure that such an intrusive, counterproductive thing would not even be considered here on Lush.

I agree with Buz. I don't feel the need to justify any votes I've made or what my average scores that I've given are. My votes are mine. If a writer asks me for feedback I will give it. Any criticism on a story I might give, I give privately. Many others do the same.
You dare to bitch that I don't make you a priority... when clearly I'm no longer a priority for you. I would have driven to wherever you are just to see you for a few hours, but instead you tell me your "friends" are more important. This isn't the first time you made a "friend" a higher priority over me. I have no clue why you are hiding from me, nor do I care anymore. The problems you are dealing with are all your own creation. My only mistake was trying to help you out in your time of need. Trust me, I won't ever make that mistake again.

EDIT: You can make time for stupid Facebook posts but not time to send me an address to mail a card to. Whatever. May you be happy in the life you have chosen.
