what if... a tree falls in the forest and a deaf person sees it...?
Clever. They would feel the vibrations of the tree falling so perhaps that counts.

gold members get priority. everyone else gets placed in a que and is approved in the order they are submitted. a few tips for faster approval - please make sure that you aren't breaking any guidelines (such as age limits, consent issues, etc) and that story is carefully proofread and edited.
Remember, our mods are all volunteers. Also, for compared to other story sites, we still have the fastest turn around time - often times it's much quicker here - the holidays have given people more time to write - it's also a time that the staff enjoys spending with family - besides vetting stories, most of us have busy lives that include family. careers, volunteer work, and/or university. we're a busy bunch - sometimes we even get a chance to relax and enjoy ourselves on lush. ;)
we do love our writers, and we try to give everyone as much attention as we can - that takes time as well - sometimes, yes, it does take a bit longer, so thanks for your patience when that occurs. other times i have seen stories turned around in a day or two, sometimes less - gold members, as i mentioned, are turned out even quicker.

Haha... guess I ought to get back to Anne Rice after such a strong recommendation! I still have Interview With a Vampire lying in my shelf though. I know Sleeping Beauty is by a different persona of her.

That implies that only the last 20 or so votes are used for calculating the avarage score? Because if all votes are used, as 'avarage' suggests, then you'd need 599 votes of 5 to compensate (read: round up to 5.00) a single vote of 2:
(2 + (599 * 5)) / 600 = 4.995
For a 1 you'd even need 799 votes of 5 to compensate:
(1 + (799 * 5)) / 800 = 4.995
I understand what you're saying. Quality is in the eye of the beholder. I'd argue your point about bad stories making it to the front page, but that's another conversation for another thread.
However, thinking a story is bad is not a slight against the site moderators, and should not be perceived as such. That's the only point I'm arguing.
And if 'negative' feedback is discouraged, why allow it at all via the scoring system?
