Duck tape is a brand of duct tape. It come in different colors.

You are quite correct. Many of my students do some amazing projects with Duck brand duct tape. Honestly, I kinda envy their creativity.

Thanks, NymphWriter, for explaining it further. My suggestion was to (try to!) curb the maliciousness that some are so adept at spreading. As magical-felix pointed out, the troll's remarks would be seen by pretty much everyone else on the site!

Alternatively, perhaps the forums should only be accessible by logged-in members, the same way the chat rooms are. biggrin

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but (discounting the fact that one would log out just to stalk on the other person) there are other ways one would know they have been blocked, right? For instance, they would not be able to view the profile (while being logged in, of course) and they won't be able to PM someone who's blocked them too? I'm not sure about the latter, but I think this is the case.

Honestly, I can't answer this, so I will defer this to Gav or a Mod who might know. As for the troll's remarks... that means the Mods would see it as well and if they felt the need to address it... they shall. If I have blocked said troll and I don't have to see their nonsense... then all the better. It's much easier to ignore someone when you can't really see what they said.
If you were as great a teacher as you claimed to be, you wouldn't have quit the chicken-shit way you did. You abandoned your students, shirked your duties, and had the never to lie about why you left. Sorry you didn't get the schedule you wanted... NOT! Had you bothered to come last year like you had promised, you might have gotten what you wanted this year, but instead you took a year off. You bragged about telling the principal you only wanted to teach reading, and that was what you had. Then I learn you wanted something else. Bitch please! We tried to help your worthless, weak ass, but in the end, my initial vibe on you was right... dammit.

This could be very interesting, I have a feeling several people have me blocked.

I'm curious why you think this. As I understand this from an earlier post from Gav, unless someone tells the person they've blocked about blocking them, they would not know. Think of it this way, if someone did block you, they had their reasons and it's not something to stress over.

For the record, I have not blocked you nor do I feel the need to do so. The block is to reduce drama and so far it seems to be doing a good job. Gav really out did himself on this and he deserves a reward... like this.

So let's see if I understand how the new block system works: if I blocked someone, I wont see their forum posts (which is great!) but they will still be able to see mine and posts nasty/sarcastic messages after mine? Is that correct?

If so, while I understand that these so-called trolls are just being a nuisance, would it be possible where the block even extends 2-ways? Meaning: once a block is in place, both parties dont "see" each other anymore. Wont this cut down even more the drama that goes on? Just a suggestion. smile

p/s - dont yell at me if this suggestion has been mentioned earlier...there are just too many irrelevant posts in this thread to scrutinize all of them. biggrin

You do understand the block correctly. And while I agree with your addition about it being a two-way block, if someone continues to post nasty/sarcastic messages about someone that has blocked them, the only people who would see them would be the Mods (of course) or those who have not blocked that person. The only way the member who blocked them would see these would be if the troll quoted the member as it does appear in the timeline... the one thing I do wish the block would extend to as well. Oh... and if they log off and look at the forum (but why anyone would do this is beyond me) as Gav has stated on the first page of this thread.

I think your suggestion is valid.

Oh, I'm sorry you took my opinion as being negative.

As a Lush OldTimer, I've learned how to handle the Lush Dramas after my first time here. I've become more laidback realizing some people are shit disturbers, others just love every one, some just need to be heard. I get it.

Anyways, I haven't taken offense with your reply to me (if that was your intention) . My comment was with regards to the Fanatical Blockers. Sometimes stepping away gives clarity and perhaps seeing others in a more tolerant light.

Best regards,
Van

Note to self, autocorrect from my mobile drives me nuts!

I do agree many of your posts in this thread have been rather negative, and really... if someone wants to be a "Fanatical Blocker", why do you care? You can set your profile to show next to nothing except to those on your friends list. There is a clear difference between a disagreement of opinions versus blatant personal attacks. I've had interesting conversations with people that often end in a "agree to disagree" because neither of us will change our view... nor will we change the view of the other person.

Those who want vote blockers will always want this. Personally, low scores don't offend me. Often, those folks will also explain why in a comment they have scored my story that way. Besides... a very knowledgeable Mod told me after 20 votes those "low" scores fall off anyway. Not sure how true that is but it's all good. If I didn't want people to vote, I'd set my stories that way.

In the three years I've been on Lush, I can count on one hand the number of "members" I've blocked. Often, the ones who push the envelope the most either get their accounts deleted or they just leave. The few who remain either learn to behave or become more compliant. Either way, the block helps bring some much needed peace for those who wanted it and felt it necessary.

I don't think this block feature will deter new members... it's empowering. Maybe it won't reach the level that Facebook has... but even if this is as far as Gav is willing to take it, it's still a damn good thing.

Between the 2 of you, you processed over 40% of the stories last month. You're due a spanking too.

I think we need a team talk ... If only a few verifiers do most of the effort, it's unfair, and the risk of burnout is very real.

I couldn't agree more!

However, on a more positive note... Way to go KE!!!

I think blocking Forum posts is going to make the Forum much less entertaining.

Oh, the thrill is gone.

Oh poor Buz... I hope this gives you some entertainment in the forums... or at least a nice view.

I would like to see the block be inforced as I said all over, if you have a person blocke, it's like they don't exist . You see them no where ,none if there post, and they can not see your wall at all.... Gav is this something that is possible? With the close your bio thing we have in settings, by using that ,no one cam see your bio. Can we get it so it's just the person blocked? Also we see none of there post anywhere?

I completely agree with this. I would love nothing more than to see the block here to the same level that Facebook has their blocks... and I also respect that will take a lot more work on Gav's part. However, if it were to be in anyway possible... I'd like to see the blocks extend to the timeline. So, when someone you have blocked quotes you to try to stir trouble, they won't be seen whatsoever.

I get that if Member X quotes Member Y and I have Member Y blocked I will see their post... and that's fine. Member X has the right to say and/or quote whatever he or she wishes... but if Member Y quotes me... I don't want to see their nonsense in my timeline. After all... that's why I utilized the block feature in the first place.

So if this is a possibility Gav... could you please look into it?

I wasn't disagreeing with you sweetheart. when I said "you". I didn't mean anyone specifically. Was just giving my

Crap. Now I've read it again it does seem like I was addressing you specifically. Absolutely not the case. Sorry.

Sorry if I upset you. It was just a general post.skkiRYlIsHyEF36a

And here I thought I had upset you. LOL Aren't we a pair of goofballs. You and I think so much alike at times that we must have gotten our wires crossed. At least that's what I'm calling it. You know I love ya Trinket. Your breast cancer awareness thread did so much good last month.

So, I'm sorry if I had upset you as well. We are so good hon. Have a great rest of your day.
Quote by trinket
If somebody blocked you then used their special "stupid" skills to go to the trouble of logging out to see what you wrote, why block them at all? Wanting a "reveal" button is also puzzling. Either you want to block them or not. If You have blocked someone for whatever reason, it's not likely I'll be interested in anything they have to say. Why would you want a heap of bells and whistles to personally "fine tune" the block? A block is a block. This is only for the members you have blocked don't forget.

Unless you are extremely hard to get along with or a mean asshole in general, you're only going to have a blank post here and there. You can still see everything even if someone has you blocked so why would this new block bother anyone unless they want someone specific to see what they have written? The only reason I can see for doing that is if you can't contact that person because they have you blocked. you're BLOCKED. they don't want to hear from you! why would you want to force your opinion on someone who doesn't give a shit about anything you have to say, unless you're trying to ?

You do know I think the block is a good thing, right? The only time I see something from someone I have blocked is if they were quoted by someone else or if it appears in my timeline. I ignore the shit in my timeline. My reference was to the beginning of this thread (see Kiera's early posts... if you can.)

Gav said the block was something several members asked for and he (and Nicola) felt it it was necessary. If you don't like the block... don't use it. Simple as that.

This entire thread is hilarious! I mean .... this is an adult site, right?

We need to worry about people talking shit, questioning your (or your) opinion, complaining about some "troll" talking smack about you? You can't defend yourself?? You want people banned/suspended or some other dreary thing, like .... "blocking their comments" in a site that VALUES FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION??

seriously????

I think some people need to grow up, and mature into the adult the years say you are .... develope coping skills to protect their fragile egos. Apparently, some take issue with others questioning their opinion or whatever the thread is about.

Blocking comments in a forum cuz you don't like some or you "THINK" they are a troll because they question you??

Some people need to grow up.

Some people need to learn to ignore "bait".

Some people need to read someone elses' opinion/thoughts and stop being so fucking judgmental. Just be fucking thankful and grateful for this site to be functioning and caring about YOU, their member!!

fuck this .... now, you all can block me .... grow up.

Van

PS .... thanks Nicola. xoxo

You really think this is about being questioned? Maybe that's how you see it, but others see the block as a way to ignore the nonsense that plagues the forums. I have no desire for a "reveal" button, but I do wish the block did extend to the timeline. However, it is what it is and I think it's fine.

Your opinions, while I may not always agree with, has always been about the issues and not attacks on members. If you or anyone else chooses to block me, then so be it. Like you, I don't fucking care.
Quote by Simplicity
This is good, If they are blocked then they should be block from every where, Other peoples walls, you should not have to see there post , seeing your wall, they should not be able to see not even your bio, should be as they are no longer here. But I do know that even people you have blocked can still see your wall (Bio), If you use the feature you put in place to close your Bio, then no one can see it, Can't it be so it is just the ones you have blocked?

I think this was the concern that was raised earlier and why there was some resistance to this feature in the past (mind you... I'm just making an educated guess.) I'm sure if this is something that the members want, Gav will find a way to do it. I mean... he gave us this new & improved block. Gav does amazing work and I'm sure as time goes on, he'll probably strengthen the block as well.
Quote by trinket
I have to say that this is going to really piss off any trolls we encounter on the forums. One of their main resources for shit stirring is gone.

That's gotta hurt.

So long as those who take the time to block the trolls don't try to read and thus respond to what they have written. I mean, if you're going to take the time to block someone... then block that person and move on with your life. The troll might try bait a response... that's what they do. However, not responding will force the troll to move on to someone else.

Nobody will read my posts ever again... (SIGH!)

Stop being silly Steph... most of us won't block you because we never know what craziness you might say next. Anyone who does.... so be it... you don't need that bullshit in your life to begin with. Besides... I kinda like you... you Irish brat.
Some of my exs I still talk to, some I do not. When I run into them, they are always cordial & I'm always polite. Some relationships ended better than others, as is the nature of dating. If I were to encounter an ex who chose to ignore me, then that is his choice... and his problem. I won't let him ruin my day. I mean... I'm so much better off without him in my life so why should I care he ignores me.
Yes, but there is a different between having a fantasy... and being willing to carry that fantasy into reality. I have several fantasies, but I know for a fact that some will never come to reality and I'm fine with that.
Hell no on both counts. That is an extra passionate kiss when I taste myself on him and/or he tastes himself on me.
I'll be the first to admit I'm not a real "girly" girl, but there is one thing I do for myself that my husband got me started back on and that's getting my nails done. I get a gel manicure (because I fuck up a manicure with regular polish within hours of it being done) about once ever three weeks and a pedicure every couple of months (more often if our budget can deal.)

Years ago before gel polish, I'd get a regular pedicure about once a month. It was a time for me to get pampered and I loved how cute my toes would look when the person was done. I had to give it up with money got tight (luxury items always go first) so now that I'm in a position that our budget can handle it, I now go on a regular basis and happily I have one gal who does both my gel manicure and my regular pedicure.

So my advice is to fine a good, trustworthy nail person. Someone who does good quality work and makes you feel good. My gal & I chit-chat as she works and she encourages me to try some colors I might not normally try otherwise. Getting your nails done is a small thing that for me, personally, is something I do that is all about being a girl.

Good luck.
Though I've never done it or participated in it, I find it a beautiful medium of self-expression and when done well, mind blowing. My favorites are when the painter uses the natural form of the model and creates an amazing, short-lived work of art.
I'm so happy this was such a success! You did so much to bring awareness to a much needed topic. You allowed some to share their real pictures, and others to share their real stories. In the end, this has done so much good and even raised a bit of money for research toward a cure.

Thank you Trinket for all you did. Don't let anyone say you didn't do this for the right reasons because you did.

Hello everyone. Is this the forum where I can make a suggestion? Oh good. Lovely.

If it's at all possible, Gav (sorry, we haven't even met, and I'm asking for a favor) is there any way that we could get a preview of our Forum signatures once we make them, rather than having to go look at an old one or post a new comment on the forums?

Sincerely and with much appreciation,

Simmerdownchick...

Gav... you've done so much with the new block feature & all the other updates... but if you could possibly find time to do this... it would be wonderful. Like Simmer, I don't like having to check an old forum post to see if my new signature is the way I want it to look.

Thank you in advance!
