heres an opinion that isnt easily rejected,u cant tell me,and im sure a handful of other Lushies out there who possibly feel the same way, that ego among the moderators looking over the stories dont let that creep into thier decision-making when it comes to accepting poems/stories,on something that has no clear definition among the other categories,if thats the case, then somebody needs to put thier foot down and put a stop to it.

I really hope you don't believe this. Moderators are volunteers. They are real people, with real lives, jobs, families, and such. They have good and bad days. They have made mistakes. They have also seen things that never make it to the home page and often upset them to the point of, "I'm taking a time-out." They do this with little gratitude (however, some member are really good about showing their appreciation.) They make edits for Gold Members (within reason & the only exception is Comp Entries), and if there is a question, they ask for help. Some questions can be answered quickly... others as was stated earlier can take 2-3 pages of dialogue and discussion.

Members bring issues up to Mods all the time. Some are minor (i.e.: a bug affecting the site) and some are major (i.e.: plagiarism). All of these issues are taken seriously and looked into. Minor issues are often fixed so fast that maybe one or two mods even knew of the issue... major issues might involve more Mods.

Of all the stories I've ever submitted, the ones that went through without a hitch and the ones that were rejected, I never felt the Mod's ego was crept into their decision. I always felt they had valid reasons for their decision... even if I didn't fully agree (which was really rare.)

Does Ashley Madison have big tits?

Depends on your definition of "big tits".

This story has a GRAIN of truth:

When I used to Mod, this VERY often happened. You'd hit the Queue and be faced with the following.

"I really love my border collie. She's the cutest dog. IN fact a bizarre thing happened when...."
(My Reply) Hey there! I can see this is your first submission. Please read carefully our guidelines as we don't allow stories of this kind. It's well written but we don't permit this particular kind of dog-loving on site. Best of luck with more suitable offerings in future.. XX Steph, Lush Moderator.

HI! I'M SHELLEY AND I HAVE BLONDE HAIR AND BIG TITS!
(My Reply) Hello. We don't write in Underline, Italicized, All-Caps here. Please read our submissions guide carefully. SF Lush Mod.

That grain is pretty small. Actually... only the last one is a bit of an exaggeration. The rest are pretty good examples.

I imagine that having studiously kept a low profile on the site and not being a story moderator on Lush are facts likely to add a deep discount to my opinion but I feel moved to tender it anyway: it seems to me that when it becomes possible to do an end run around the decision of the moderators by posting your work in the forums it won't be very long until Lush is mostly Forum and far fewer published pieces. A tragedy of epic proportions.

Your opinion, as that of any member of Lush, is important. Some might make jokes or try to use sarcasm (I know I'm guilty of this) to make their point, but that doesn't make what they are saying any less important.

Everyone here in this thread, as well as those who have commented in other threads have different opinions. Some will agree, some will not. The only time a Forum Mod steps in is when it is truly necessary. Yes there are certain rules we must all follow (no site/mod bashing is one such example), and from what I've seen, everyone in this thread has been respectful for the most part in sharing their opinion in regards to Loneleygirl68's poem. We might not all agree... but we've all been respectful in our discussion of it.

I hope you don't think your voice doesn't count. It does. Not everyone will agree with you, but some will.

I hope you find Lush to be a wonderful place to share your opinions.

That was the thing with the C64. Bootlegging games was so f-ing easy. I think I had four time as many as I actually paid for. biggrin (I was young and foolish then and do not advocate this today ;) ).

Well... back then we didn't see it as a crime. We were sharing the games and the software. I look back and realize how bad that was. It was new territory. We weren't being bad as much as just... "sharing" the fun. Yeah I would not encourage that whatsoever now. I think it's why they have made doing that so much harder.
Sprite... I saw this pic on Facebook and thought of your cat. Hope it makes you smile.

I won't lie... I was laughing my butt off this morning when I heard this.

If a person is going to have an affair... they are going to have an affair. There is no denying this. If a person is foolish enough to use sites like Ashley Madison and AdultFriendFinder, then they go in knowing the risks.

I agree with VanGogh, I'm surprised it hasn't happened sooner. Especially after all the other hacks that have occurred.
Hot, humid. Damn monsoons! Thanks to a hurricane near Mexico, we are dealing with flash storms that bring flash floods.

Triple digits are on the horizon though... as long as the humidity level is low... we will be fine.

You, too, eh? Had to keep that disk squirreled away, though (I was 17 and living at home when we got our C64).

I was 16 when I got mine... after I spent a weekend doing homework on my dad's. A year later I got a dot-matrix computer.

I had bootlegged copies (back when you could copy games with just a program and a blank disk) of the entire series including the two guys, plus a bunch of other games. They were my dad's... and I spread them around my town to all my friends. I would come on Friday with a stack of blank disks... and leave with a ton of new games for my friends and me.

Hell... we never used the original disks... we made copies so we didn't ruin the data.

I disagree...

(Let's PUT STUFF ON HERE and SEE how it is received? WITHIN our guidelines, obviously...) If it ISN'T received THE AUTHOR will GET THE MESSAGE...

I THINK the quoted piece EXPLORES a DARK SIDE of sexuality, love, obsession and fixation...

(AND WE DO THAT, DON'T WE???)

FUCK... (I know I DO!!!)

As a MODERATOR, you HAVE to put your OWN preferences IN YOUR POCKET... (Other people MIGHT FEEL IT???)

If it's NOT against site standards and IT'S NOT badly written THEN IT SHOULD GO UP!!!

And take its chances.

xx SF

Fine... the we shall just agree to disagree. I still respect your views, I just don't agree.

Quote by avrgblkgrl
Disagreeing is your prerogative.
(You know I love you, but you did mention that you were a fired volunteer right?)

Of course we explore these things, the dark side/love/obsession and fixation are also explored elsewhere.
I'm not even going to bother denying it's presence in the poem because I don't think that is the question.
The question is if enough is there to qualify for Lush. If you are saying that it is, I have to disagree my friend--with respect
for both you and the poem. And, I didn't pick up on anything sexual, so why bother going there in this thread.

Keeping all things beneficial, I totally understand how Lonelygirl feels. It happens to the best of us, as Steph admitted.
No one wants you to abandon it or even rewrite it. I wouldn't if it were mine. The Blue Site would welcome it, I'm sure.

I agree with ABG... this would do well on the Blue Site. As a stand-alone poem... it would be a good fit there.
I wish to warn you kids that I'm old. All my favorite games were on my Commodore 64. They were:

1. Jumpman

2. Zork

3. Zork II

4. Zork III

5. Summer Games

And saving the best for last...
6. Strip Poker

I post quotes in my blog that I would enjoy sharing with gen pop. However, in order to do that and share a teensi bit, I have to open my whole history and I don't want to do AWLLL that.

Well... maybe it could be like an option. "Click box if you want blog comments." and a box you check (or uncheck) or something like that. The same way we can set other features on the site.
Quote by Liz
(Honest opinion alert)

I have to say, and I'm not being mean about this, I don't see how a piece about stalking someone to their mother's house qualifies as a 'love poem'. The character might have done it for love, but I don't think that necessarily makes this a love poem.

The first sentence on the Love Poems page is, "Love poems and poetry is a hugely popular section, proving romance isn't dead!" I think the kind of work the site is looking to publish is implied, without actually being spelled out word for word. We (the story moderators) are looking for poetry with passion, with fire. Everything from the anticipation and excitement of a first love, to the crushing, heart-wrenching desperation of loss.

Liz

I must agree with Liz as well. It's not for Lush. This is about a person who is basically a stalker and gets caught. There is no romance. There is no real heartbreak. It's a nice poem... but it's not suited for Lush.

Quote by avrgblkgrl
I'm afraid I have to agree with Liz. I am a moderator on here as well as the Blue Site and it reads more like it belongs on the other site. I understand that it may be influenced by/connected to another poem already published here, but it is a separate submission and stands alone.
Of course you could do what so many make the mistake of doing, sex it up and over dramatize passion in an effort to make it fit for the sake of just having it published. When it is forced and breaks the fluidity of thought, it is painfully obvious. You will lose out on quality. It depends on what is of importance to you.

Many of the same readers here are located on the Blue Site as well. This poem could be what increases your views. I often write poems myself that just lack that Lush edge and belong there as well. I'll want it to be here, but it just simply doesn't belong here. It is not because the poem lacks quality, it's just an adjustment in placement.

Sprite, stop hogging the bottle. It's been a long day.MhY0L5lYQ5J1VdCo

ABG is also correct that this would do well on the Blue Site. I have not read your other poem (the one mentioned earlier) so I have no idea the connection. All I know is this is not a poem for Lush.

And here's a drink for you ABG... since Sprite is being selfish.
Quote by stephanie
Can't argue with all of the above.

However, CASTING A CRITICAL EYE over The Top Ten, (and on three other entries I fancied...) I notice there's VERY LITTLE in terms of WRITING QUALITY separating the field, (obvious stylistic approaches not with standing, (Mag Felix's entry being a good example of this..)

What I'M GUESSING is that it more came down to how the Writer approached the topic. For example, Nymph Writer included a FETISHISTIC element in her story while keeping to brief, thus making it stand out in terms of plot.

Milik included a much darker, noir aspect to his offering, again uniquely.

Average Black Girl made her tale much more personal in the way we understood the motives of the protagonist.

Saucymh took the opportunity to showcase a skill at writing dialogue which was natural and refreshing.

I could go on, but my point is that each of these ten writers, who I don't think will mind me observing are stylistically unique but more-or-less equal in terms of writing skills, brought something JUST A LITTLE different to the brief.

NOBODY should be wary of entering comp since in terms of QUALITY, the initial APPROVAL and POSTING by the regular mod team means that your offering is worthy of consideration by the judging panel. And ALL entries are read, re-read and discussed as I understand i. (And I understand it!)

It is that little extra SPARK of originality, (Buz's humor, Bethany's HIGHLY CONTEMPORARY setting, Principessa's exploration of a more hard-core approach, Jaymal's faux-fantasy exploration etc...) and the examples already mentioned above, that make these offerings that little bit (?) extra-special.

Congrats to the winners and ALL who took part.

xx Stephen

While not taking anything away from anyone in the Top 10... your words have touched my heart and encouraged me in a way I can't really express. Thank you for both reading my story... and your comments here. I know you don't give praise easily Steph... and those of us who were mentioned... have been honored by your words.

Thank you Stephen.

That's *exactly* what I am talking about, Sweet. There are a LOT of funny/hot/honest/perceptive posts, and It would be nice to respond sometimes, and to get responses.

Sounds interesting. I guess it would be fun to see what others think about the blog posts.
Quote by HeraTeleia
Personally, if I enter a comp or am considering entering a comp, I don't even read the other entrant's pieces, lest I accidentally commit an act of plagiarism. Even after I've submitted my piece, I don't read the other pieces, and I certainly don't score them. One would hope that no intentional sabotage between contestants goes on, but I suspect (particularly when the prize is actual money) that it does. I don't know this for a fact--I've never even tried too correlate scores on any story v. my timeline--but human nature being what it is, it seems that it must happen at least once in a while.

I'll be honest and say I don't read all the comp entries. Some are genres or topics I'm not comfortable with, some don't appeal to me, but the reality is I just don't have the time to read them all. How the judging team does this in such a short amount of time is nothing short of amazing. Then to pick the top 10 and of course... the top 3... those unsung heroes deserve some applause. I also look at scores after the comp closes. I always hope I will win... but I also look at who has entered. Some names make me more concerned than others because they have either won in the past... or I know their work is really good. Some I have read and known... I've lost 1st place... but maybe I'll make top 10.

I want to trust that those competitors who have read my stories (and the stories of others) score fairly, no matter what the prize is.

There is a trend here in England these days where women are using hyphenated surnames after marriage. They put their surname first, then the Huband's with a hyphen.

Interestingly, a new movement is taking root where the husband is taking the wife's surname....

I've seen women do that, but not men. It's nice to see that maybe the old stereotype is going by the wayside. I'm so not saying it's for everyone... but still... change can be a beautiful thing. Thank you for sharing that.
Woo hoo!!! I made Top 10!!!

No surprise Liz took top honors... she's an amazing author.

Major Congrats to Buz for his first 3rd place story!!! I know how hard you've worked to have a story worthy of such an honor. You totally earned it man!

You are seriously deluded.

Please don't compare your mind to mine. Really, don't.

If you don't like me responding to you...then don't come asking for more. It's that simple. You can go on with your cringe-worthy sycophantic tangents without including me.

I never asked you for more. I will not, nor have I ever compared my mind to yours. You are a different person than I am. You know nothing about me except what you have assumed. I asked you to leave me alone. I'm sorry you think your opinion is the only one that matters. You are the one who feels the need to attack me. I have not attacked you in this thread. I made a suggestion. You shredded it. I made a change to my suggestion. You continued your attack. I have asked you allow this thread to return to its purpose. You have chosen to continue to attack me.

I have striven to take a higher road in regards to my dealings with you. You most likely will not agree. That is your choice. I am only exercising my first amendment right. I have not said anything in this thread that was a slam against you. I did however use your words back at you.

I once asked you to agree to disagree with me. I am not asking for a response from you.

I will not always agree with some people's opinions, however, I do respect their right to voice their opinions. If people can agree to disagree, at least a middle ground can be reached.

Humans are beautiful and flawed creatures. We see the world differently. That doesn't make anyone better or worse... just different.

Go in peace Jack and leave me alone.

Eh, it's a throwback to when women literally were considered the property of their husbands. Your identity as an individual was subsumed into that of your husband. As for Ms. Clinton...it will be interesting, purely from a language standpoint, to see how she is referred to in formal announcements. Right now it's informally the President and First Lady, not 100% certain on more formal announcements. I would presume that it would just become the President and the President (since all Presidents of the United States are forever endowed with that title), but I really don't know. I'm sure a lot of language scholars are trying to sort that out right now.

Weirdly, your example (Mr. and Pres. William H. Clinton), probably comes very close to the mark, at least if you were to, say, be sending a wedding invitation, except that it would be Pres. and Pres. William H. Clinton. Don't really know, though.

You are right about if Hilary would win... it would be Pres. and Pres. I guess I'm just tired of not being recognized as myself, but my husband's spouse. If it were up to him... I'd always have top billing.

What name did I call you? I don't see any...

Reread all of your posts to me.

I will not apologize for being human. Yes, I missed the part about what you quoted being from the Gold Members Thread. So what? Do you know what that makes me... HUMAN. Nothing more. I have not asked you a question, I have made rhetorical statements. You're intelligent enough to be familiar with them sir. However, I wouldn't want to assume that I am giving you too much credit.

The only one with an unhealthy obsession is you. You think everything is about you. It's not. My suggestion was about the site... not you. IT was a suggestion that Nicola made, that you piggy backed on but because I said it was good, you went on the attack. It seems you don't like the fact that I might agree with you on something. Yet, you keep attacking me. I have asked you to leave me alone. I have asked you allow this thread to return to its purpose. That is not asking too much.

Nicola... if you don't like the suggestion... then so be it. I shared my experience with it from other sites. I know this is your site. You created this thread for Members to make suggestions... not give you orders. I hope that what I said in regards to the "Featured Story or Poem" did not come across as an order. If it did, I am sorry. If my suggestion is similar to MF's, then even better. That means great minds think alike. If you still don't like it... then that is fine as well. I assure you... my feelings will not be hurt in the least. I promise.
Quote by Magical_felix
Your reading comprehension skills are appalling... No, I am not claiming it is mine... Nicola posted that idea two years ago. Nothing was done with it for reasons unknown. I saw it and I added to it because it was an idea I thought had potential and posted to see if Nicola would reconsider her original idea of a featured story banner that would rotate with the featured member banner like it does when there is a comp going on. I added to her idea because it was never added to the site in hopes that maybe with a new spin it would be looked into again.

What you did was nothing... It's obvious you just posted to try and contradict what I said and that is fine but by doing so you also added nothing to the table. Nothing at all.

I am so tired of you thinking you know me. You don't. I added to an idea. That's it. I didn't know at the time it was an idea Nicola suggested two years ago. I simply voiced my opinion, just as you did. I'm getting tired of your constant insults and name calling. If anything, you should be pleased someone might have agreed with you. I did not contradict you on any level, MF. I might not agree with your idea fully, or have a slightly different suggestion, but I did not contradict you.

You insist on calling me names, insulting me, and trying to belittle me.

If any other member had said what I has said... would you have responded the same way? I doubt it. You think I'm obsessed with you, when it seems the contrary is true.

So, if Nicola and the other Mods feels having a "Featured Story or Poem" featuring a Gold (or maybe... a Silver) member is a good idea, then they (Nic, Gav, whomever) will run with it. If not... then no big deal. My feelings won't be hurt. I'm well aware what is posted here will be viewed and decided upon, but not necessarily implemented.

Now please Jack, leave me alone and allow this thread to return to it's purpose.

I would like to have a feature to remove an errant post or double post Ian the forum. Not long ago I posted a cartoon someone sent me, I thought was funny at first glace, but I later deemed it could be offensive after reevaluating it. I contacted a particular mod and asked if she could remove it. She said no. That I must suffer the consequences of my errant action. I think all of us regret saying something of posting something from time to time. A lot of confrontation can be avoided by simply allowing a simple delete.

Gawd I hate politics. It weaves its way into everything.

Now this is a good idea. Often we see the error of our ways and if a MEMBER wishes his or her own post to be removed (not the post of someone else mind you)... maybe this could happen. In the meantime... my only suggestion is to go back and "edit" the post with a new image (assuming you haven't been quoted... you're good.)
Quote by Magical_felix
It's not your idea though...

Are you claiming it was yours then? Or have you never heard of the phrase, "Great minds think alike"? I made a suggestion. It was not the same as yours. I amended it. All you do are doing is tearing it apart. So, if Nicola likes THE idea, with or without anything I've added... great.

Now, I have asked nicely before... so once again I say... please leave me alone.
Quote by Magical_felix

Please leave me alone, MF.

If Nicola likes my idea... then she will do something with it. If not, that is her choice. This thread is about making suggestions about improvements or features you (the members of this site) would like to see added. It is not for you to try and convince people of anything else, especially your nonsense.

Go in peace MF and please... leave me alone.
Prior to the ability to reply to a comment... I rarely thanked anyone for reading my stories. Once that was added (thank you Nic & Gav!) I always thank those who read my work. If I have made a picture that thanks them, I'll post that on the page of those who are my friends.
