Mr. and Mrs. are both abbreviations. "Mr." for Master (originally) and "Mrs." for Mistress. I have never seen either not capitalized.

I stand corrected. Thank you LJ. I had been given misinformation, now I can explain it to my students correctly.

There's no e at the end of could and your overuse of ellipses is ridiculous...

The quote from Nicola is from a similar thread as this but from the gold member section.

I chose not to quote you before for a reason. As for now and from here forward, one typo or anything else I say doesn't require a comment from you.

However, I will amend my suggestion since you had to say something.

Perhaps there is a way that the "Featured Stories" of Gold & Silver members could be featured. It might (and no Nicola, I'm not trying to tell you how to run your site, it's jut a suggestion) encourage more Gold and Silver memberships if there was a chance for their piece be featured as a "Featured Story" and/or "Featured Poem" (something I forgot to mention before.)

It's only a thought. This thread is about improvements for the site. I don't for one second think every suggestion will be entertained. I spoke about my experience with other sites. I will add that seeing your own story as a "Featured Story" is a really cool feeling. The story in particular of mine wasn't my highest scoring nor was it my lowest scoring. My best guess it was just the lucky one that was picked that day (that moment if you will.) If this happens... great! If not... no biggie.

I know since you implemented the new pay system you've been trying to find ways to get more "paying" members, maybe... just maybe this might be a way to get that. If you don't agree, that's fine. If you do... even better. Either way, that is my "amended" suggestion and what you do with this is your business. I respect your site and your rules Nic... even if you and I must on occasion agree to disagree.
Okay... I've gone though over 30 pages in this thread and I can't find the quote from Nic I wanted to reference so I'll try and wing it.

Nicola had mentioned looking into adding a gold member's story to the top of the front page in the rotation with the "Feature Members" box. I will add I think this is a fantastic idea. There are other sites (no, I won't be rude and mention their names) that do something similar. I know this because at one time, one of my "older" stories was selected for this rotation (I'm sure more have been... but it was the ONLY time I saw it.) While it would be great if they were RRs or EPs... I think (and this is strictly my opinion) that should not be a requirement. Now... there could (and I stress the word could) be a "Featured RR" a "Featured EP" and a "Featured Story" that makes this rotation. I'm guessing not all RRs and EPs were written by Gold members. However... if this is asking too much (as it is a lot to ask for)... then just a "Featured Gold Member's Story" would be fine. This way those members who have been her longer than say... 6 months... and have more than 10 stories (and poems) written can get some love on a great story they wrote a while ago.

Now, I realize this runs the risk of a "less" than stellar story making this rotation, but really, that's a subjective issue. A story I think is amazing might suck to another reader. Readers have stories they avoid for a reason (category, tags, etc.) and thus, this rotation will give older pieces some attention. No, not everyone will "love" the story that is picked... but maybe... just maybe... those older stories will get some new readers.

Neither have I, except for instances of textspeak. Mr., Mrs., Ms.

If one wants to be absolutely correct, the "Mrs." must be used with the husband's name...as in, "Mrs. Robert J. Walker". This is where the "Ms." comes into play--it is used only with the woman's name. Even if the woman in the marriage has a doctorate, she is properly referred to (at least in formal letters or announcements) as "Mr. and Dr. Robert J. Walker" or "Dr. and Dr. Robert J. Walker".

While I totally agree with you... I must say how much it bugs me to only be know as my husband's wife. I have two degrees and he has none. I currently make more money (annual income wise). Even my own colleges sends all correspondence to him... and I'm the alumnus. I'm not blaming you HT... you're are just bringing up a fact. Maybe one day the sexist attitudes will change and the wife's name will be first if she's the major bread winner or the one with the higher degree.

Think about this... if (and I stress the word IF) Hilary Clinton were to become the 45th president... I doubt we'd refer to her & Bill as Mr. & Pres. William Clinton... I'd hope we'd say, Pres. and Mr. Hilary Clinton. But honestly... I don't want her to win (and I'll admit that's way off topic... but it was an easy way to make a quick point.)
Reading these cute poems make me miss having a cat. Sadly, the pet deposit at my apartment is just too damn high... not to mention the extra in my monthly rent. So... I will enjoy the Poems by Sprite's Cat and share this pic I found.

I looked at my numbers of stories I've written... and of my 47 stories I have: 16 RRs and 1 Famous Story. The Famous Story did not earn an RR, and some of the RRs are nowhere near earning a Famous Story. Earning an RR is always a thrill for me. It never gets old. It tells me I did a good job with my story telling.

I have one just up for a few months and I dont spam or blog or ask anyone to read me but I got 16,407 view thus far..Is that good?

I would love to have a famous story.

Hey Mad

Edit..Hey SA Congrats getting one.

As a wise Mod once told me... you'll get there with time and patience, and once you get one, more will follow. Took me over two years to get one... now I'm hoping more will come. Yours will come along soon too sweetie.
Simplistic profile. No need to be too gaudy or flashy. Been here almost two years and has posted a story (well done!) The first one is always the hardest.

When I was at school, about a million years ago, I remember bring told that 'Mr.' Is written with a capital M and has a full stop at the end. mrs is written with s small 'm' and has no full stop at the end.

My iPad is writing 'mrs' with a capital. Have things changed over the years? Maybe it has something to do with equality. Is it grammatically correct to use the capital 'M'?

Is there anything written in the Oxford Grammar guide, or is it just a style that has become the norm with modern day English usage?

Thank you...

That has to be a first for me to see. I'm sure this was the case at one time, but now both are capitalized and given a period at the end. Both Mr. and Mrs. are seen as abbreviations for mister and misses. They are also part of a person's title, like (and I'll use Wilful's excellent example here) Mr. Smith and Mrs. Jones. The periods here are not a "full stop" as you mention, but an identification that you are using an abbreviation. Much like Dr. is an abbreviation for doctor. So, when I talk about Dr. Who, or Dr. Spock, I am using the word doctor as part of their name, their title.

This is how I've been teaching this for over ten years. However, if someone can find a resource that says otherwise, please let me know. Trust me, I need to be aware of changes in the writing industry.

I'm joking.

Stephenie is most certainly joking. The man's skeleton is made of all funny bones.

Nymphwriter is a joke.

So in a way, everyone is joking.

I'm a joke? You arrogant asshole! How dare you call me a joke? Oh wait... it's because you have no DICK! Do me a favor and leave me the fuck alone! The only joke here is you.
Quote by Magical_felix
I started this thread and posted the chart.

My mistake.

Now do me a favor and leave me the fuck alone you arrogant asshole! And don't ever fucking call me stupid again! I know how to use fucking punctuation correctly... unlike you!

Nicola: "I blame you for this, Stephen..."

Looks like Nic did it for me.
Quote by Magical_felix
I purposely didn't put a question mark... That went over your head just like my joking around with Stephanie obviously did. Your thinking process clouded by your disdain for me.

Excuses, excuses, excuses. You can't punctuate correctly & try to pass it off as a slam against me. I knew you were joking. Steph knew this. Please... my disdain for your comes from your arrogance... a quality I find very ugly. You can't even agree to disagree with me... you must always start another fight. Here's a thought... get over yourself Magical_felix. Stop thinking that when someone disagrees with you that they are obsessed with you. Often... it's just a difference in opinion.

So... Can you stay on topic? As you stated before... this is about a great chart Steph shared to help writers be more creative and make better word choices with their writings. Oh wait... you said to "inspire writers"... I said the other part.

Obviously later I'll apologize and beg and grovel and you'll give me another chance, yeah?

I can actually GROVEL in a sexy way. (I know, I'm just fucking talented...)

You do know that was aimed at Magical_felix & not you right?

And I'm not hateful. But you are silly.
Quote by Magical_felix
Can you stay on topic. This thread is about a chart to inspire writers. It's not about how focused you are on me. Please stop being ugly.

You quoted me first. You're the one obsessed with me sir. If anyone here is being ugly... it's you. You also cannot stay on topic. Please... leave me the fuck alone and learn to punctuate properly.

I'm KIND OF half-thrilled because FOR ONCE somebody took me SERIOUSLY on Open Forum and half-appalled because I think I offended my friend!!!

You really think I didn't know he was joking? Whatever.

I think Steph knows I was joking with him...

Someone's a bit thin skinned. I knew you were joking... fucking Steph knew you were joking. Please get over yourself.
There are reasons I won't attend your wedding. To make it easy... I'll put them in a list.

1. Your wedding is in November and I have to work (you knew that... btw)

2. You live in Florida and thus, you're wedding is in Florida. For me to get there requires a round-trip airplane ticket and a hotel room. Neither of which I can afford.

3. You only got back in contact with me when you remembered that my dad had set up a college fund for you that was supposed to be for my son. The only reason you even had anything was because my father made a mistake.

4. You borrowed money from me, promising to pay me back, then never did. Consider that my wedding present.

5. There are people who will or might be there that I have no desire to ever see again... including:

-----a. Your hypocritical grandmother-this Bible bashing woman does not live a Christian life... nor does she practice what she preaches.

-----b. Your bitch aunt-she turned on me so fast it even made my head spin. You were a witness to this betrayal after your dad had his surgery... but I know you've chosen to not remember the way it really went down because she's "family". She assaulted me without cause. Let me remind you that family doesn't mean blood. It means people who are there for you.

-----c. Your mom-the only reason her and I couldn't be friends... or at least friendly to each other was your father's fault. He deliberately put a wedge between us because he feared the truth would come out. I also feel she could have done more especially in the realm of keeping in contact with you.

-----d. Your half-sister-she is an ugly person from the inside & it reflects in her outsides. I did try to be nice, but she went out of her way to defy my rules. She refused to respect our requests in regards to what we allowed for you. She wasn't your mother. She made little effort to see you or even keep in contact.

-----e. Your half-brother-this asshole is a blight on the face of the earth. He tried to accuse me of doing drugs with him because he was familiar with my last name. Too bad that name was my ex-husband's. He had me confused with someone else, though no one believed me. He's an abusive junkie and a prick. He borrowed money from me for "rent" only to use it to buy drugs. He was the one who attacked me on Facebook over something I said & apologized for. And yes... I did report his sorry ass to Facebook for cyberbullying. Just because you two share a mother doesn't mean he'd not a monster.

-----f. The Whore-oh... I mean the bitch your father was fucking during our marriage. How you can befriend this woman is beyond me. She snitched you out every chance she got. She set me up. She lied so much that she wouldn't know the truth if it bit her in the ass. She treats your father like shit (he's told me this himself when we were still talking btw) and she has cost him a lot of friends and your brother won't talk to him any more. She did drugs in our home. She used us for a free ride... and is now using your father.

-----g. The whore's sister-the bitch is a thief. She stole from you, me, your father, and my son. There is no excuse for this... not even her so-called living situation.

-----h. Your father-also my ex-husband. He has a drug problem. He is addicted to pain killers. He's a habitual liar. He lied to me. He lied to you. He lied to his friends. He lied to the police. He illegally locked me out. He stole my things and my son's things. He cheated me out of thousands of dollars when he sold that mobile home. So when Karma showed up that day after Christmas with that fire, I did a naked happy dance. I was fist pumping the air & high fiving Karma. Then you had the never to beg for money on Facebook for him. When your cousin suggested gift cards for Walmart which was near by... you shot that idea down. So it seems you are well aware of his drug problems and wish to enable him. Something I will no longer do.

6. I have watched your Facebook posts. Your whining about needing money for your tattoo. Bitch please! I get the job situation... but remember... you chose to let your boyfriend/baby daddy knock you up not once... but twice. Why he didn't marry you sooner is beyond me. If he really loved you... there wouldn't have been any delay in his matter. My man married me a year & a half after we started dating... how long have you two been together? At least 7 years based on the age of your older son.

7. Honestly, I don't want to go. My son wants nothing to do with you and wonders why I even keep in touch with you at all. Maybe it's a sick fetish. Maybe it's because for a brief period of time, you were my daughter. Regardless of why... for now... I will keep in touch with you... but I won't be at your wedding.

I do wish you blessings & good luck with your future. I hope you have a happier ending than your father & I did.
The truth hurts. Sometimes it hurts you the most. Telling the truth can bite you in the ass, but at least you can look yourself in the mirror and say, "At least I didn't lie." Just know, not everyone will agree with your truth and call you names for it. They will use your truth and twist it to use against you. They will use your truth to hurt you. And when you make a mistake, they will use that error to try to prove your truth is really a lie... even when you apologize for the mistake you made. Not all mistakes are made out of malice... often they are made out of ignorance. But if there is one who wishes to use this one mistake as evidence of your crime, you can only stand by your truth, even if it means you'll be punished for this. Knowing you spoke the truth even when those doubt you is all you can do.
