No one will be giving any '1's in a few weeks ...
Yeah, I have seen that.
What can we talk about now?

I perhaps overstated that a bit. I didn't mean to belittle the fact that arbitrary ratings and comments can be - difficult to handle or accept. I will say that I've been publishing online for more than four years and I've been on various forums and other places long before that. So I've seen a lot of weirdness, or just plain craziness.
I had a guy just about a month ago (he was on an email list) who went off on me - in a really nasty way - because I questioned, believe it or not, the restoration of some Amtrak train that hasn't run in forty-three years. I mean, wow, Amtrak!
I don't think you overstated it, getting a '2' or even a '1' on a story is not life changing. It just begs the question why? though. It is possible that some low marks that I and others have received are the genuine opinion of someone that has read the story. I think it more likely though it is just done for the sake of it by someone who has NOT read the story. That then goes back to the question why?

I rely on George Carlin for a rule of thumb: "Human beings are capable of anything." It's worse on another site that allows non-members to vote. (I don't think this one does.) But there are still thousands of readers , and who knows who they all are and what they are thinking? But, yes, I wouldn't be surprised if some got pleasure out of down-voting.
We live in a world in which people kill each other with tanks and missiles. (And some some version of that has been going on for over 12,000 years at least.) So the shenanigans on an online story site are a relatively minor thing.
I agree that it is a relatively minor thing although the frequent '2' vote might damage my chances of ever getting The Nobel Prize For Literature.
The usual '2' has just appeared on a story of mine only published within the last hour. The 2 does seem to appear quite early in the voting on my stories so I very much think that it is the same person every time.
I imagine they see that I have a story published, almost certainly do not read it and then give their 2 vote.
I just wonder why they do it?
It could be that it is not always the same person but I think that it is likely that it is.
Presumably, they get some sort of pleasure from doing it.

As I said, this is still being investigated, as our understanding was that starring them saved them indefinitely. I will report back when I have an update. Thanks.
Jen-I do not know if the problem has been solved or if there never was a problem but I can now go back much further, It takes time because the scrolling freezes and I did not wait long enough to see if I can get back to messages on the 'old' LUSH but I got back to October last year.
So if there ever was a problem it seems to be a problem no more-in my case anyway

It sounds like messages are routinely deleted after sixty days but starred ones get an additional thirty days grace.
It looks that way doesn't it?
I thought that the idea of starring messages was to keep them 'forever'
Not too much point in starring messages then is there?

Thank you Jen-I did recheck and again the oldest message that appeared as saved was dated 10th May this year but there should be loads before that including those saved on V1. I have saved a lot of messages over the time that I have been on here so the quantity might be a problem but I would hope not.
Further to this, my last starred message still visible to me is now May 15th this year so presumably starred messages (which are starred to keep) disappear after three months?
I assume this happens to everyone?
Is that how the starring system had supposed to work?

Favourite Kinks...hmmm let me think. I'd have to say Waterloo Sunset, closely followed by Celluloid Heroes.
Two of the best but there are so many-Dedicated Follower Of Fashion, You Really Got Me, Well Respected Man.
I have a kink for sexy girls with a sense of humour and a way with words-do you know anyone like that Jayne?

No, that sounds about right given conversion rates.
Have you tried a helpdesk ticket?
That may be quicker than waiting for an Admin to hopefully see this tread
Thank you for your advice/interest. I will raise a ticket because I do not want to start losing further 'privileges' if the system believes that I am NOT a Gold member.

Do you recall if you paid for the whole year, or quarterly?
Year I believe-it cost me £40.59 on 22nd April.
If that was a quarter is annual Gold more than £150?
Would be a shame as the loss of being able to chat one-to-one to non-members makes the site less enjoyable to me anyway.
I still await news.
As I said before, if the only drawback is that I do not get emails telling me that I have messages then that is no big deal but if I am also missing out on something else then getting it sorted would be nice. Thank you
Edit-Interestingly having just raised a ticket on another issue I received an email acknowledgement to the email address that I am being told needs to be updated and, by definition, is not recognised by LUSH.

Messages will be deleted after 90 days (99% sure thats correct... someone will correct me if I am wrong). For messages to be saved you need to 'star' them. You need to highlight a message to see that option under the message box to the right along with 'report'.
I was just about to ask about starred messages because it seems that I cannot see any of mine prior to May 10th. I have loads starred before that-where are they please?
I will recheck but have tried twice and only go back to the date.
A not dissimilar thing sometimes happens to me if I leave a chatroom. I then get the red bar at the top saying 'Login' but I have found that if I click on the back arrow a few times, I am back to being logged in without physically doing it.
This is a quite recent occurrence for me.

we're sorting this out. Please be patient until after the dust clears. thanks.
The way that I discovered the change was interesting.
A (non-paying) member of the site had recently returned after an 18 month absence and she and I were about to get re-acquainted in a one-to-one in the chatroom-except we couldn't!
I (and hopefully she) will await developments.
I will be patient.
