Morning all. Hope you're well. It's quarter to seven here, I need a coffee but no no time to make one until I get to work in an hour 😭

I've been busy writing, and my comp entry just got approved. Shockingly, it's straight. Less shockingly, I felt the need to put the following warning in the author's note:

  • Warning: the story that follows contains blood, horror, sex dolls, misogyny, and heterosexuality

So Kimmi - you might need your teddy bear at the ready: Doll Parts

The title is of course a reference to this classic song by Hole:

I'd better go start pulling my weight moderating stories now.

I love the new series management system that was added yesterday. I think this is unarguably better than the old site. Now to reorder a series, instead of having to mess around changing the linking of individual chapters, you can click the little symbol next to the series name and reorder from one page, or go here.

The short answer is yes, just edit it and select it from the drop down box and hit submit again - see below why you probably couldn't do this when you submitted it. I think it is still an edit that does not require mod approval but I'm not 100% sure, so it might take your story offline for a short time. Add a note to the mods so we knit that's all you've changed just in case.

Currently only the author is able to add a story to their series - us mods only see a list of our own. Series that existed before the move only became available to you with an update last Friday. However, if it's like all of mine, the order will be all over the place. I've asked the development team a few questions to find out what the options might be to fix that.

For now you could use an application for diffing, such as DiffMerge.
There are also multiple online tools that don't require downloading - Google something like "compare text" and you'll find some. We occasionally had to do that on the old site anyway, as random minor changes could trigger something that turned the whole text into a block of red when really only a few words had changed. Hopefully the new one won't do that when it comes back.

From VioletVixen because part of her issue is she can't post on the forums right now:

This appears to be sort of fixed as of now. Yay smile
I can post, quote, and create new posts in the forums, and I can comment on stories. However, I'm still unable to see the comments under the story (mine and others) and voting doesn't appear to work still (it brings me to the top of the story so I either gave a random story a 5 just now, or there's no new vote from me).

Violet reports that this is no longer fixed - she can't post in the forums, vote or comment on stories, or view comments. She tried clearing cookies to no avail.

The wink feature has been deactivated

It has not been deactivated. I just sent one to a friend to see if if worked... and it did.
It seems you are correct, it hasn't been deactivated completely, must still be in progress. Your profile doesn't have the button but IMPÜRETHOUGHTS' profile does. in the meantime, I actually read those options at the bottom of the Wink Settings - looks like the last two stop you receiving the message and send a pre-written reply. I'd prefer if one of them was "If you didn't press this by accident, we can never be friends" but since it seems the intention is to turn it off completely it doesn't really matter.

And I only assume it goes right back, because there's no competitions link on the front page any more...

It's down the bottom between "popular tags" and "popular stories" in the scrolly thing with audio stories, editors picks etc. Well, scrolly on a phone, anyway.

Please ignore if this has been noted already. The read count on stories seems to have gone crazy. There are Micros up that have 1500+, 1800+ 2000+ reads in a week. Not even KimmiBeGood has done that before. A couple of really poor ones (what was the Mod thinking?) logged more than 600 reads in the first 8 hours.

Should we believe any of it? And how will the stats ever come out right again?

I suspect the comparatively high read numbers is because previously Micros, Flash and Poetry were not on the front page, they required one extra click. Now they are on the front page with a label saying they will take 1 minute to read, so are getting more views. I don't know if there are plans to move them back off in the future, but that would be a design consideration. Views rarely have any correlation to quality or quality of feedback, in my experience anyway, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I love the deleted items folder in the messaging system. On the old site I managed to delete my entire inbox twice, and once deleted a message was gone forever. Now there's at least one more step I would have to take.

Sorry to jump in again but I thought I saw somewhere that the submitting of stories from draft is no longer a problem but I cannot find that post. As mentioned, on advice, I copied and pasted my story from draft to a 'new' story and submitted it that way and it worked. I have now commenced typing another stary and as I usually type a few paragraphs at a time, I have saved what I have done so far to draft. Am I likely to have problems submitting whenever I finish the story (possibly today) please? If I do, I suppose the copy and paste to a 'new' story will be the way to go. One other point, the story that I did post via copy and paste is showing as both unpublished and published but I fear that deleting it from unpublished would also delete the published version-would it?

Yes, I believe publishing from draft of now fixed - if it doesn't, the copy-paste workaround is fine, but let us know so we know it still needs work.

Your unpublished copy of your published one should be fine to delete - if you want to be absolutely sure, copy it into Word or something before you delete the unpublished one - if it somehow deletes the published one (I think there is zero chance of that happening) submit it again with a note that it was all my fault 😉

Another one from VioletVixen:

Desktop = macOS (MacBook)Version = 11.5.2

Browser = Firefox (92.0 release - up to date to the newest version at the time of writing)

Membership is Gold, but it seems to think I'm a non-member. It says I don't have a subscription and I can't do some things, etc.

Since I'm being treated as a non-member for the moment, I noticed I can't reply to comments on my albums that I get from friends. I get a red popup which reads,

"You do not have permission to leave feedback for this user."

As far as I can tell, the user in question is on my friend's list and not blocked in any way shape or form.

The other of these things is the inability to upload x amount of pictures. After a selecting a certain number of photos to upload to an album when I mass select them from a folder on my desktop, it comes up with the following message for those that went over the limit (I'm too lazy to figure out the limit - is it size of all uploads together, or is it the number of files uploaded?)

"undefined You have reached the limit for your membership, upgrade to upload more."

I would like to know what the limit is on media files -- photos and videos -- but I also wanted to point out there's a way around this limit that allows me, in theory, to mass upload photos (I haven't experimented with .mov or .mp4 files yet) indefinitely. This means I could upload a million plus files and no one would be able to stop me. Even though the website has identified me as a non-member.

All I have to when I reach the non-membership limit, is upload the files that were allowed, wait for the green pop ups to tell me I uploaded them successfully, select 'Close' below the uploaded media, and then select 'Add Media' without ever leaving the page or the album I'm adding files to.

If a lot of users were to upload thousands (or more) files every day, I imagine it could potentially tax the servers.

It would be nice to know max sizes, and also to know if there is a max for uploading. I imagine many users have hours worth of video footage to upload as well.

On Lush 1.0, unlimited file uploading was a membership perk, but there were hard limits in place for individual file sizes. Will this be possible for members (once the membership kinks get worked out, of course)?

Thanks for looking into it,

Violet

why isn't there some kind of instruction manual? If this is an established website that we're working with in some fashion, surely they have user instructions?

Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Support - this appears to be an FAQ for one of the other sites in HQ' network. As you can see, some doesn't apply and much is missing because there have already been many customisations and more are ongoing. There aren't the resources to keep updating it right now. Once things have settled and (unwanted) kinks ironed out, no doubt it will be filled out.

If you want to be useful, you could compile the various tips posted so far into a document that can be used as the basis for the updated FAQ, I'm sure that would be appreciated.

As for unsavoury invitations, it's because you're marked as male, but I can send you a bunch of dick pics of you're feeling left out.😇

From VioletVixen because part of her issue is she can't post on the forums right now:

I tried to report this in the bug report area, but was told to post it in the related thread in the forums so everything could be in one place.

First, some specs:

Desktop = macOS (MacBook)Version = 11.5.2

Browser = Firefox (92.0 release - up to date to the newest version at the time of writing)

Cellphone = iOS (iPhone 7, System Version 13.7, Safari - need to update to the newest version at the time of writing)

I can log in on my desktop, but not my phone (even with adjusting for the capitals in my username as suggested in the FAQ). However, I can log into Stories Space on my phone. Just not Lush. On Stories Space, my browser has my username saved in all lowercase, and despite the capitalization of my username, this doesn't appear to be a problem logging in there.

I was able to post in the forums, comment on stories, etc on my phone before the login issue. Although I have a preference to do this on my desktop so I haven't been very active on the other site since I ran into the below issue.

Even before the login issue on my phone, I was unable to interact with many parts of both Lush and Stories Space on my desktop. It appears to the be same issue. I can reply to comments on my stories via 'My Comments', but not directly. I also am unable to see anyone's comments on any stories, mine and others on desktop.

I cannot give a score on stories either (desktop).

On the forums, I cannot interact with the 'Like' 'Quote' or 'Create a New Reply' buttons. However, I can click and interact with 'Last Reply', 'New Posts' 'My Posts' 'Search' and the entirety of the 'More' drop down menu without a problem.

(Side Note: Selecting 'Last Reply' when logged in brings me to the top of the last page of the forum thread rather than the last reply, but when I'm logged out, it functions as it should)

Note that I am not getting logged out when I move around the site.

I've talked with one other person with the same macOS/Firefox combo who is having the same issue as me.

Thanks for looking into it.

-Violet

Hey SBB, how about pinning that so it's obvious? I keep having to search around for that thread, and the bug-reporting thread.
Would if I could - I currently don't have that power, but it is a good idea.

This was posted three months ago. I'm sure the need for clear communication will be taken on board, however please remember that the site is run by volunteers in their spare time except for the new development team. Most of that time is taken up verifying stories. I'm only posting here because I'm at work and it's easier to get away with a sneaky forum post than reading through an 8000 word gangbang story smile

It seems to me that if that had been explained up front, perhaps there would be far less complaints. one week and already 13 pages of reports, some of which have already been addressed. Perhaps people would have waited a couple of weeks before complaining and just made a list to check after that.
Everything I said was simply a summary of the various site announcements over the past few months and my knowledge that coding is hard. The post at the top of this thread specifies it is only for technical issues, not feature requests and that migration is ongoing. On the first page it was suggested people note the latter down for later.

I was editing an already published story. I saved to draft. Came back to finish the editing, and pressed submit. The story remains in draft with the message "This story is currently in draft" at the top.

How do I get it out of draft?

This is a known issue being worked on - the current work around is to copy it into a new story and submit immediately - don't save as draft.

Since Lush 2.0 started I have gotten several identical emails that all have the same title:

"I'd like to know more . . .".

Are you trying to drive people away from Lush?

I'm being serious.  Since Lush 2.0 started I have gotten several identical emails that all have the same title:

"I'd like to know more . . .".

That is the "wink" feature. Like all the other dating site-style features, they are a result of the building blocks used to create the new site originally being developed for adult dating sites. I've customised mine to say "sorry, I must have pressed wink by accident, please ignore" as I'll never use it. I imagine most of these features will become more optional over the coming months.

What people need to understand is that the technical side of the entire site used to be written and supported by a single person. They were no longer able to do that, could only give 3 months notice, and the infrastructure was starting to creak anyway. There were essentially 3 choices:

  • leave the site as it was with no means to fix technical issues until it fell over, leaving the owner with massive server bills for a site that didn't work and the rest of us without Lush
  • somehow find someone able to write and support the perfect upgraded site, requiring Lush to be offline for months as the old hosting expired before a perfect new one with manuals etc. was ready with no guarantee everyone would return
  • find someone able to put together a site that was at least designed for the traffic and user numbers that Lush had and bring the core functions of the site over (stories, friends, forums, ability to send some kind of message to each other) and transfer everything over before the other hosting expired with minimum downtime and then customise it in place.

They went with option 3, and the company who was willing to take on such a daunting task is one that specialises in adult dating. Naturally, the building blocks they had available to repurpose have that functionality deeply embedded in the code. It will take some time to unpick those without causing everything to fall over, but the intention as far as all announcements have said is not to change the focus of the site from being a story site.

It will take some time to get all the features working perfectly - this is only week two. This sort of project would normally take months - please be patient. There are still users who can't stay logged in - that is obviously a higher priority than stopping "winks" (although I hope those do get turn-off-able sooner rather than later).

So please don't leave, Brooke, or anyone else. Give it a few months. A bunch of issues have already been fixed and little features added just in the past week. More will come.

I have just submitted the story again (or maybe I haven't). It might be in the queue twice, once or not at all but it would be nice to know please.

I checked for you, Paul, but I'm afraid it's still not there. If you go to it on your list of stories and copy the link you can PM it to me, I can take a look from the mod end if you like.

There's one of my absolute favourite stories here by one of my absolute favourite people, VioletVixen. It's brilliant. She's having trouble posting on the forums at the moment, so here's a link: Blood Rite

Which is why we need an INSTRUCTION MANUAL!!!!!!

Instead, we're all thrashing around, trying to figure out stuff that should be explained.

Does anyone know how to offer a friend invitation? One of my friends sent me an email (not though here) saying I blocked her. I checked, and she's no longer listed among my friends, and when I try to PM her, I'm told to cease and desist, that she's blocked me!

Anyone have any ideas?

I have no more information than you, but when faced with new and unfamiliar technology I start compulsively pressing all the buttons to see what they do. This is how I was able to enter IT with no directly relevant qualifications, and also why I should never be allowed near a nuclear reactor.

AngelWorthy's advice is very sound, by the way. There have been issues with blocking not working, so possibly it's gone the other way for you?

Quote by JamesLlewellyn

And so far as we know, you can't put links in text in the New, Improved Lush 2.0. At least no one I've talked to knows how to do it.

Links in text is easy - it's that little icon at the top that looks like chain links, between the dot and the smiley face. Select the text you want to link, click/tap that, and the text is linked. This is a link to the first chapter of the best thing I've ever written. Or do you not have that button?

Congratulations, top three, and the rest of the top ten! All well deserved. There were far too many to read all of them, but I read plenty of other excellent entries.

Oh, and two tentacle stories in the top ten? We must bow down and bend over for our future tentacular lords and masters!

I have a few friends stories to catch up on - SBB's newest installment is SO SO GOOD - go read it.

Thanks for the shout out, Harley! The final (for now) instalment is now up: Smita's Smitten Boy-Bitch

It's been a fun one to write, and pretty different to my previous stories. I mean, there was no Satanism or anything remotely supernatural in it...

Hope all are well. Last night was hot, we had to put the aircon on. I think that early build up they talked about might be starting properly. Hopefully it's a short one and we get to the Wet nice and fast - I love the tropical thunderstorms.
Morning all! I'll have a splash of rum for my coffee before I start work - should make it more interesting.

I mean All along the watchtower by Hendrix is amazingly good.

I didn't realise saying Hendrix's version was better was controversial but apparently so. I think it's one of the greatest covers ever recorded.

I posted the second chapter in my mini-series yesterday, and it got an RR! A bit of a surprise since it's in another category I've never written in before: Smitten By Smita

For reasons I can't work out, it won't let me link them as a series, even though I'm doing exactly the same thing as I've done successfully on multiple series before. I can't wait for the new Lush. Anyway, there's one more part written which I'll post as soon as this one drops off the front page. Although I now have ideas for follow up chapters... They'll have to wait!

Have a good day, everyone!
Hi Rumplepumpkins! That's what regulars of this place are called, isn't it? Well, it is now.

I've had in-laws (or whatever you call the equivalent when you're not married and have no intention of getting married) here the past few weeks. We went camping, had a snap lockdown, ate fish 'n' chips - all the good things you do here.

I did find time to get a story ready and it's now live. It's a bit different for me - it's all straight sex for a start! It should appeal to fans of dreary middle England, fucking your University Professor, Terry Pratchett, and the classic 90s comedy, Goodness Gracious Me: Smitten With Smita

Meow, pussycats!
Hi all! Not dropped by in a while, hope everyone is good. Or naughty, either works. I've been busy with a bit of this, a bit of that, including some writing, thought it's not ready yet...

Except for my story in the latest comp, which should appeal to fans of Samuel L Jackson, Chas and Dave, and orgies in the sky caused by Satanic curses: 666 Trouser Snakes On A Plane

Now I can start making my way through the other entries, I've got some catching up to do!
As others have said, is relative. The story I'm most proud of is also a long horror (four chapters with only one under 7000 words) - the first chapter was posted in October last year and is just now approaching 2k views, and that's with not only an RR but an EP and series award. A frivolous story in another category that is a fraction of the length and has the word "Schoolgirls" in the title that I posted only a few months before as more views than all four chapters combined at over 10k.

But I regret nothing - my writing improved so much just from the effort I put in to writing that story, and I have made several very dear friends as a result of comments and messages connected with it. The latter are far more important to me than views. Although perhaps my expectations were lower - I assumed a horror full of gay sex, black metal and Nazis would get even less interest than it did.

I like to think you get a higher proportion of engaged readers in the less read categories. Most people are here for a quick wank, and are not going to a long horror story for it. However, the few who are here for a great horror story will likely appreciate your story all the more, follow you into other categories and tell their friends about your writing. I did exactly that with yours.
