The week after Amanda's overnight date with Glenn passed quietly. They tip-toed around their memories of the weekend and Sy felt a chill between them. Mandy seemed solicitous and distant, and a trace of formality drifted into their relationship. She's been overly cordial and polite, Sy thought. She's still mad about me and Tiffany. He didn't like the new distance between them but all he could do was ride it out. On the ne...

Downtown at the Savoy Hotel. Amanda awoke before Glenn. It was early morning and sunlight played across the walls and ceiling of the hotel room through gaps in the curtains. She looked at the ceiling and recalled the events of the previous evening. Next to her in bed, Glenn, her boss, was gently snoring. It seemed so weird to see her boss in bed with her instead of her husband. She felt naked and shy and pulled the covers...

*** The ride in Amanda's SUV to the downtown Savoy Hotel was not what Sy had prepared for. He had imagined his wife, Amanda, and her boss, Glenn, sitting close together in the backseat while he drove. He would have had to endure the sounds of their kissing and occasional glimpses of them in the rearview mirror. As with everything else about sharing his wife, he had anticipated it with awful stirrings of excitement, dread,...

The next Sunday, Amanda returned home following morning Mass to find Sy just as she had found him the previous Sunday; still in his bathrobe, sitting at the kitchen table with the Sunday newspaper, cup of coffee in hand.  But, what a difference a week had made! Last Sunday they were still negotiating terms of her upcoming date with Glenn Talbot, her boss, and discussions were still in the abstract. But this Sunday everyth...

Sy didn't hear the garage door go up and didn't know Amanda was home until she shook him awake.  "Wake up, Babe, I'm back," she said. She noticed the open whiskey bottle, the baby oil, the scattered tissues, and Sy's open laptop. The room smelled of stale whiskey. She picked up a crumpled tissue and sniffed it. Yes, he had broken his promise to her.  "Oh, and someone seems to have lost his pants," she said with a laugh. S...

All day long, Sy was useless at work. He could think of nothing but his wife, Amanda, and her boss, Glenn, going on a date tonight, a date they all knew would lead to sex. It was really going to happen! He had to force himself to keep his mind on work. Otherwise, recurring thoughts of his wife paralyzed him into inaction. Every spare moment his thoughts came back to Amanda, and his mind was seized anew by a powerful mixtu...

Amanda kept her luncheon meeting with Tiffany a secret from Sy. Tiffany's proposal was simply too outlandish for Amanda to discuss with her husband. At least, not yet. First, she must think it through for herself. Tiffany had proposed that Amanda take Tiffany's husband Glenn as her lover! The very idea of a wife cooperating in her husband's romantic affair with another woman was simply inconceivable to Amanda. She had to...

Sy and Amanda awoke just before noon, showered, dressed, and got a late start on the day. During breakfast, neither spoke of their frantic sex of the previous night. It seemed like a dream to them, a crazy burst of illicit energy that neither understood.   Each left to do their errands; Sy to Home Depot and Amanda to the grocery store. They'd talk more about it tonight, after dark.   Amanda drove through traffic and thoug...

CHAPTER ONE   The sun had set and the western Colorado sky was a deep indigo. Already, the brightest stars were visible and soon the whole expanse of sky would be black and thousands of stars would sparkle overhead as in the most ancient of days. Sy looked up to the heavens and wondered about time so immense and distances so vast the human mind could scarce comprehend it. The logical human mind was not meant to understand...
