One of my favorite beers has always been the Mexican beer, 'Dos Equis'. In English that generally means two X's - in fact the label on a 'Dos Equis' bottle usually has two X's on it.

When I first started writing adult stories, (~2003), my stories were considerably more explicit than they are today. If they had been made into movies they likely would have been considered triple X, (three X), or in Spanish, 'Tres Equis'.

Not being Hispanic, or even a Spanish speaker for that matter, I adopted as my pen name, 'Trace Ekies', which in English has a pronunciation similar to that of the Spanish 'Tres Equis'. Although my stories today could probably be made into R rated movies, I still use some minor variation of 'Trace Ekies' as my name for all 'adult' type activity.

With the recent popularity of the 'Dos Equis' man, I began using un-copyrighted lookalike images of his and usually close my communications with 'Stay horny my friend(s)'.

This is a post from Nicola in the old Q&A thread:

The Premium Story Library, hasn't been activated yet, but here's a brief rundown.

It will contain stories which authors do not wish to make available to the general public. These will typically be meatier works, longer stories, or even complete ebooks.

How the idea came about, was that an author contacted me, saying she'd like to share her other stories, but not in a way that content thieves have easy access. She very kindly said she'd allow us to publish her works, to support the site, if they were behind a pay wall as it were. This means her work is more protected, and it adds to the draw of paid membership.

The library will grow over time. It will contain ebooks / longer stories, which we consider to be of a very high quality. Authors who contribute to the Premium Library, will of course get more exposure to their work, and it's likely that they will be more widely read as a result.

Thank you, I had not previously seen this. I will await implementation.

I sent you a PM with a link to the original forum post.

Got it. Thanks.

As SimplyJohn said, it hasn't all been finalized yet, otherwise it would be up...

I understand that plans for the premium library have not been finalized. What I don't understand is that you (kornslayer1) have at least heard of a premium library, whereas I have no recollection of it having been mentioned. Have I missed a link or thread or something else about it?

Regarding the new premium library ...

I have not previously heard of this. Is there someplace where I can find more infor about it?

TE, I disagree with you concerning the voting. The current system aligns with other voting systems, Amazon for example. You suggest a simple system of clicking ‘like’ for story approval. But, a ‘like’ doesn’t say anything about how well a reader liked a story. The numeric voting system tells how well readers ‘liked’ a story in a collective way.

...

The #8 story in my example, the one with 56 total votes and a score of 4.98, is Possibly's latest story. It not only has more votes than any other story released during the month of July, it also has more '5' votes than any other story released during the month, yet it is only ranked #8 because someone, likely without any malicious intent, voted a '4'. I believe it deserves to be #1.

...

I do agree with you; four is a good score. However, I would walk away from a story or poem giving no vote before I kill a story’s ranking by awarding a score of 'four', especially when 48 people felt that the story deserved a five. That’s just me.

I agree wholeheartedly; I too believe that '4' is a good score. And like you, I skip voting if the vote I really want to make would 'kill' the story's ranking. Unfortunately, not everyone is so observant as to notice its current score or so polite as to avoid 'killing' a story's rank by casting a vote that is below the story's current vote average.

Quote by RejectReality
No scoring system is going to please everyone. Hell, no scoring system is going to please most people. I've seen it done umpteen ways, and there's always people arguing that it sucks.

...

So true. I didn't really expect everyone to agree with me, (although it would be nice to see a least a little agreement).

More than anything, I was hoping to inspire a few well thought out comments on the subject, which I seem to have done. In the end, if the ranking method were changed such that a story with 55 votes of '5' and a single vote of '4' did not get ranked below a story with only 10 votes, (albeit all '5'), I would feel that my posts have not gone for naught.
Once upon a time, Br'er Rabbit, an avid reader of adult stories, discovered Lush Stories and immediately signed up. As it was a Sunday afternoon and he didn't have anything else that he needed to do, he did a little reading. He started wirh this months popular stories in the straight sex category and managed to get the top six read before getting chased off by Br'er Fox.

Br'er Rabbit thought these six stories were pretty good. He even posted a laudatory comment on each one. He awarded each of them a score of four. his score for really good stories. (He would award a score of five only to a story he considered to be truly exceptional.)

Here are the top twelve stories before his votes:
Rank Votes Score
1 48 5.00
2 47 5.00
3 24 5.00
4 16 5.00
5 11 5.00
6 11 5.00
7 10 5.00
8 56 4.98
9 36 4.94
10 20 4.94
11 16 4.94
12 14 4.93
Here are the top twelve after his votes:
Rank Votes Score Was
1 10 5.00 7
2 56 4.98 8
3 49 4.98 1
4 48 4.98 2
5 25 4.96 3
6 20 4.95 10
7 36 4.94 9
8 17 4.94 4
9 16 4.94 11
10 14 4.93 12
11 12 4.92 5
12 12 4.92 6
And so, after casting six conscience based votes, (no maliciousness intended - he is not an author and had never even heard of the authors of these stories), Br'er Rabbit has wreaked havoc on the rankings. The former #7, with only ten votes, the least of all twelve, has become #1; #8 has become #2; the former #1 is now third; and the previous #5 and #6 are at the bottom of the list.

All of the top ten have more '5' votes than the former #7, yet he is now #1 because Br'er rabbit only read the top six.

Do away with numeric voting.

If you like it, click on a 'like' button. If you don't - do nothing.

Vote count becomes 'like' count. I think most of us go by that anyway.

...
First, let me say that I think Lush Stories on the whole is pretty damn good. I post my stories here and read those of others here because I like the place. However, there are always going to be things that could be improved, and there are always going to be things that people want changed.

... it would be nice to be able to put a story into more than one category, for example, a lesbian story in an office could go into both categories, but linking back to one uploaded page biggrin might help when it comes to finding what you're looking for.

I am inclined to agree in concept with the above. I would suggest however, a slightly different approach.

Do away with the categories and rely solely on the tags. Make proper tagging mandatory, something the reviewers have to pass on. Allow stories to be excluded by tag from a member's listing of new, popular and viewed. Continue to allow searching by tag. (It would probably be best with the foregoing if tags were predetermined.)

Thanks for letting me know. Now you can't vote on my poems.

Lmao.

**Comment removed by moderator for being ridiculously and unnecessarily rude.**

I knew I'd get some blow-back on my suggestion but I had no idea it would be so severe.

Denying me the privilege of voting on your poems - that is cruel and unusual punishment.

Do away with numeric voting.

If you like it, click on a 'like' button. If you don't - do nothing.

Vote count becomes 'like' count. I think most of us go by that anyway.

Right now if a story has fifty '5' votes and one '4' vote, it is ranked below a story that has twelve '5' votes. If I want to move my 'twelve fives' up, all I have to do is vote a '4' on the stories above me. Even if it had a hundred fives, it is now below me. And who's to say it's not a legitimate vote. I don't think there is any story on here that is so perfect that a '4' vote could not be justified.

As a reader I prefer third person...although when done well, I love the first person (like in crime novels)

In stories like those on lush, 1st person often is really an 'I love me' format, (I have a 12" cock and of course my wife has DD's, etc.). But when carefully done by a skillful author it can be very potent. You only see what the author can see and that can make for great mysteries, as referred to above.

Third person is great for most stories as it gives the author the liberty of telling just as much as he wants about each of the characters. The author actually knows everything, (omniscent), but he can pick and choose what to disclose at various times.

Can't stand the second person narrative. In fact I don't think I've finished one of these. I click off as soon as I see what it is.

If I could only choose one, it would be third.

I couldn't agree more.
I belong to an organization that eats out about once a month. Restaurants around here like to tack on an automatic 20% when the group is six or more, which we always are. Our members don't like the idea that the tip amount is determined for them so when we make the reservation, we ask the restaurant to agree to our method of handling the tip, and so far none has refused us. We are always "Dutch Treat", so each member gets his own bill. He can then tip whatever he feels the meal and service are worth. Our agreement with the restaurant is that if the servers feel, (and we don't require this to be proven), that they have received less than 20% in the agregate, that the club will make up the difference. Our club has never had to pay anything additional.

Personally, I consider 20% to be the target for meal tipping. I will likely tip a greater percentage if it is for an exceptionally cheap meal. However I will also tip a lesser percentage if the total bill is unusually large, like when it includes expensive wines and/or expensive after dinner drinks, but still never less than 15%. Even if the service and/or food are terrible, I'm not going to undertip - I just won't come back again.

A bar tab is a different matter. In this case, 20% is the bare minimum, and that would be for a very large bar bill and only average or below average service. On small bar bills, (very cheap drinks and/or very few of them), it could go as high as 100%, or even more if the service has been exceptional. It depends an awful lot on the bartender. If the bartender is making an effort to provide generous drinks in a friendly atmosphere, the amount is going to go up dramatically. If on the other hand, the bartender is somewhat on the surly side, and/or seems be stingy with the drinks, it'll be closer to the minimum, but in that case I'm not likely to be staying very long anyway.

I live in a resort area where nearly all of my friends make their living in the hospitality industry, and most of it from tips. Tipping is often a subject of discussion between myself and my friends, and I have learned that my practices, although sounding somewhat on the cheap side, are actually more generous than what they see from the average tourist.

I guess I should have answered my own questions before asking others.

First - Until reading the above, I didn't know you couldn't vote your own story on Lush. (I have never tried.)

Second - Should we vote on our own stories? I think it depends on the general practice. In government elections, (at least in the U.S.), candidates almost always vote for themselves. However, in one organization I belong to, although it would be permissable, candidates for office generally abstain when the vote is taken. I think voting on your own stories is a case of "when in Rome..." If everyone else is doing it, then why cheat yourself.

Third - Have I ever voted on my own stories? On Lush - no, never even tried, or I would have known the answer to the first question. But on other story sites, where it is not only possible, but normal to do so - of course, I'd be a fool not to.
I'd like some guidance about voting on one's own stories.

First - Is it even possible to do it on Lush?

Second - How do you feel about it, should we or shouldn't we?

Third - Do you yourself, vote on your own stories?

I think it's all to do with the level of horniness and it doesn't have to stay constant over the time of writing.

I tend to start off pretty straight headed, think up my basic plot and characters. I like to write stories that I enjoy and when I have written something that gets me going, then there should be a good chance that it would effect another reader the same way.

I tend to find my horniness increases as the story heats up, but after having to read over it again and again to check for mistakes and just the flow of the story it's ability to make me horny wears off. It's only after posting it and leaving it a few months and then going back and reading again that I get that same feeling of excitement as when I originally wrote it.

Pretty much how it works for me too.

I will often write when I am horny, but what I've found is that I tend to be repetitive and my sentence structure et al goes to shit, however the typing will tend to flow when I'm turned on..

So, what I will do is write at that time, just get it typed out onto the page, then I'll leave it and come back at a later stage and edit it with a clearer head.. Try and mold it into something half decent - with varying degrees of success...

I've skimmed your profile and noticed at first glance quite a few sections are missing, such as a photo album (which is different from the image gallery), video uploads (which are different from embedded Youtube videos), and a music playlist. Your age also isn't showing. All of this may or may not have an effect on the autobiographer's badge.

I tried to wipe out my post but I guess it didn't take.

I read a post of gav's, and found out what I was missing. I have since filled in those things.

I have since received a notification that all requirements have been fulfilled and the badge will be added shortly to my profile page.

Thank you for your concern.

I went back through my Lush stories and linked them in the order that they should be read, rather than the order they were written. A lot of the time the "You may also like..." section picks out other parts of my multi-part stories as well.

I'm sure that readers can navigate their way around to find what they want to read anyway.

This is a great suggestion. One caveat however. The link takes you off that page before you have even seen the voting box and comment section, which I would suspect has a tendancy to lower voting and comments.

Of course that problem could be fixed by moving the voting block to the immediate ending of the story and following that with the comment section, (which could be collapsible), and then follow these two things up with all of the links, the author provided link being the first.

Also, I noticed it hasn't been mentioned yet, but it you become a gold member, your story will immediately go to the top of the list for verification. You will get your stories on here faster, and support a great website at the same time.

Thanks for the tip. I'm going to look into it.

I read the story you had in your signature line. Fantastic! I'm going to be looking at some more of your stuff.

Hi,

Thank you for your query. I would imagine that the queue is high because Lush is a popular site and there are many authors on here, whether they be veterans or newbies, who wish to see their work on the home page. We get inundated with submissions and the team work relentlessly to ensure everyone is dealt with as quickly and effectively as possible. It is much easier for us when people familiarise themselves with our guidelines and even do a little reading, to understand the quality we are striving to maintain. We hate returning stories to authors and we will work to support anyone to ensure there work is seen by everyone, whether that be in one hour or one week. As it has been stated on this site before, we are a bunch of volunteers from all over the globe and yes we do have lives outside of lush.

Another note, I have released your story. Best of luck with your writing.

Thanks for helping me to get it posted. I am convinced that all those spaces were from pasting in an unrecognized file format. You must have spent days trying to fix those. Thank you! It only took me a couple more hours to get it ready for resubmission. It's now approved, yeah, and already close to 1000 views. Thanks!

BTW: The view count I was talking about, (39 if I recall), was all before it had been approved. Those must have been your views as you were trying to fix the spaces. Thanks again!
I got a reply.

It looks like something happened in the transfer of the story from my system to yours. It seems that a bunch of spaces have been introduced within the words themselves. I'm not sure how this happened - it's not that way in the saved original I have on my system. I suspect that it may be related to the software I use for story development, (Libre Writer). Anyway, I'm going to get it fixed and resubmit.

Thanks again for your help.
