I didn't see a post suggesting ways to spend your time during quarantine/lockdown/COVID-19, so I figured I'd start one. What are you doing with your abundance of time? Feel like giving a suggestion for ways. I further suggest leaning towards things that people might not be aware of. Everyone is aware of netflix, but have you used Kanopy or the Criterion channel?
I'll start
I've been binging on the Frontline Documentary series from PBS, freely available on their website. Lots of great topics.
Using the heck out of my Library's digital services, for ebooks.
Streaming from Kanopy
Writing for Lush
Recently saw Knives Out, great movie, I wish Christopher Plummer and Jamie Lee Curtis were in more of it. Love those two. Looking forward to to the not-Hercule-Poirot franchise.
I can't remember the character's name because he's Hercule Poirot and I don't fee like looking it up.
On deck:
Parasite (yeah, I'm late to the party)
I, The Jury
Color of Space
Desperately want to see Bloodshot, except COVID closed the theaters. I mean, I'd be more into seeing XO-Manowar or Harbinger if we're doing Valiant properties, but hey it's Valiant so I'll take what I can get.
Sprite sent a message with the Subject "Dick Pick" and included a picture of Dick Tracy. I don't know what to call that, but it's top notch whatever-it-is.
If that isn't deserving of applause, I'm not sure what would be.
Miles Teller, for whatever reason, every time I see his face I want to punch him very hard. He's probably a perfectly nice guy, but for some reason, I just want to punch him, and can't watch any movie his in.
Johnny Depp,
Michael Cera
Dwayne Johnson
Also Tom Cruise, because fuck it, I'm a follower.
That's probably it.
Too many variables here. For instance, how did the person die? Is in in a region with high crime? Abandoned buildings? Can I mask the cause of death? For instance, if I cause an electrical fire in the building with the body, it might make it look like the body burned to death, unfortunately if the person was shot, the bullet holes on the corpse will render that not a viable option. If it's in an area with high crime, can I make it look like a mugging gone wrong? How much time do I have?
Best possible method is to allow not dispose of the body, but configure it in such a way that the death appears to be based on otherwise mundane reasons 100 people die due to automotive incidents every day and 125 due to suicide. Make the death one of those.
However, here's a pretty decent option. dismember the body, it might take a while but it's easier to dispose of parts than a whole. Dismemberment takes place on a very large tarp a painting tarp will work, clothing used during the dismemberment would be burned. Individually wrap each part as tightly as possible. Dispose of the tarp, and clothing, burning that works. For the pieces, each one goes somewhere else, ideally a different state, bury each section 6 feet deep in the woods. Burying an arm 6 feet deep is easier than a whole body.
But the golden rule is to obfuscate the cause of death. Make it look like not murder then allow the body to be found. Open and shut case.
Other option: Use the body as a sacrifice to a dark god. Dark god wants more sacrifices, so the dark god'll make it go away nice and easy and then hey, you've got a dark god on your side for the future.
A Christmas movie? Hell no, it's THE BEST Christmas Movie.
Can't believe we forgot the Bond movies. Dr No, Russia With Love, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice, Goldfinger and Majesty's Secret Service. Those are some quintessential 60's flicks.
I have an ongoing bet with the universe, I'll come up with something stranger than it. I've yet to win.
Yup, and I returned the favor.
When she gave me one, I got confused since I wasn't sure what I was supposed to do with my hands and kept fidgeting, when I returned the favor it was unpleasant for both of us, partially because my ass is really "bony."
We agreed to never try it again, but speak of it as often as possible because we found it hilarious.
Depends which of my shrinks you ask, I've seen more than 10 over the course of about 16 years.
Espresso, because I find shots of alcohol completely counter to the manner by which I imbibe intoxicants.
Loved Be My Valentine.
Looking forward to reading the rest.
I'll exclude ones previously mentioned
Made in the 60s
Branded to Kill
2001: A Space Odyssey
Night of the Living Dead
Yellow Submarine (The Beatles animated movie)
Barbarella
Batman (the Adam West one)
King Kong vs Godzilla
2001, and Barbarella aren't set in the 60s, but have so much of that time in them that I have to count them.
After the 60s:
Inherent Vice (Okay, Summer of 1970, but close enough, especially since it's set in LA)
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's nest (barely counts, based on a 1962 book, but made in the 70s)
Honestly can't think of many movies about or set in the 60s.
Okay, how has Die Hard not been mentioned yet? Or did I miss someone posting it?
Also:
James Bond
Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory (had to do a quick google search to make sure I wrote the Gene Wlder one)
American Psycho
Yojimbo (I count it as being based on either Red Harvest or Glass Key, both by Dashiell Hammett)
Seriously though, n
What is wrong with me that the first movie I think of when I hear "Frozen" is the 2010 horror (ish?) flick about getting stuck on a ski lift? I have made that mistake more times than is reasonable.
That ski lift movie is pretty bad by the way. Heard good things about the other one though, haven't seen it.
The full cut of Once Upon A Time In America, yes the full 269 minute version is probably my favorite traditional mafia/gangster movie. If we count nontraditional ones, It's Branded To Kill.
Some others I really like, but don't know if they "count" are
In Bruges,
Leon The Professional,
The Usual Suspects
Seven Psycopaths
Psychic, palm reading, tarot reading, Ouija board and I Ching I've done. Seance no. All complete horseshit.
Hell, with the Psychic I went with the explicit desire to troll the psychic, I said the dead person was my brother, and he was killed in a prison, where he was serving six consecutive life sentences for murder. So when she said he was in heaven, I pretended to be distraught and coming to the realization that nothing has any consequence, if someone who killed multiple people could get to heaven. When I revealed I was doing this just to prove the psychic a fraud (she had (in my opinion) scammed a friend of mine) she got pissed.
Naturally given that she was proven to be con artist, she didn't charge me, ain't I a stinker. I wish I recorded it but two party consent state so y'know.
The tarot and palm reading were too vague to be of any use, ticking off every category you can think of in writing prophecies was in effect here.
Ouija was with friends and we were drunk, so answers tended to involve monkeys and poop, so either we were screwing around or the ghost was as drunk as we were.
I Ching was a bit confusing. I'm pretty sure I screwed up the reading so the reading is somehow more meaningless than it would have been anyway.
I don't like the whole thing, I think it's a predatory scam.
While I think New Jersey and Florida are two of the worst states in the union, I'm firmly an East Coast guy. New York style pizza is infinitely preferable to California style, and I love the Mad River area in Vermont and I like snow. I like that the East Coast feels a lot more compressed.
The more I learn, the more my views change, and I will never stop trying to learn. I have views now that were abhorrent to me five years ago, and the views I held five years ago are abhorrent to me now.
Whether it has resulted in me leaning more the left or right, I'd say both yet neither. In some areas I'm definitely more liberal, in others more conservative.
I've also moved to a much more absurdist view of the world.
I just saw Whisperer in Darkness, which I don't know if it counts but I thought that was awesome,
A lot of my favorites have been mentioned already (Halloween, Universal Horror, Hitchcock, the original Texas Chainsaw) so I'll skip those.
Nightmare on Elm Street 7
Cabin in The Woods
Conspiracy (2012)
You're Next and The Guest are more thrillers than horror but they were both excellent (you let me down Adam with Blaire Witch 2016, you let me down)
plus the classics that I previously mentioned.
I have on several occasions encountered people having sex without joining in. In fact, in highshcool, there was a park my friends and I used to go to two or three times a week because there would always, always be people have sex at that park somewhere. Sometimes hidden behind some bushes, other times just under a blanket in the middle of anything else. It was a strange sort of game. We never explicitly interrupted, sometimes walked passed people mid coitus and we paid them no mind.
Wow that was a weird highschool experience in hindsight, going to the park looking for people having sex.
Freshman year of college, I walked in on my roommate having sex with his girlfriend. It was like 1:30 AM, I was tired and drunk, I had nowhere to sleep so I just said fuck it, walked in and went to bed. I recall them getting indignant, to which I replied "I'm a heavy sleeper, wait 20 minutes and then go out at it, but I'm fucking tired."
They thought it was hilarious about a day and a half later, since they had lost track of time.
As long as the woman is drug and disease free, the sordid history contains nothing illegal, her history is just that, history.
That's in general though. I can think of things that would be too unpleasant to think about, certain kinks too extreme, though context matters. If the person was in an experimental phase and engaged in some of the more unsavory business I'm talking [REDACTED, because common sense] it would be different than here going "by the way, I'm really into [Still REDACTED]"
I also have a big problem with individuals who cheat on significant others, to the point where I don't want to be friends with them by and large.
I have a yes to the 'can' part of the question, but there are too many variables in play for me to give a better answer than, mostly no, but sometimes yes.
So, I practice escapology, and have tried looking into merging escapology with bondage, though I have concerns about the feasibility and safety. Is actively attempting to and eventually succeeding in undoing any bindings dangerous? I'm not sure if this has anything to do with submission/domination, more like defiance and competition
I have 0 experience with this stuff, and by and large, the topic of escaping and being able to escape isn't something I'm able to find much information on w/r/t bdsm. Any advice is appreciated.
