Kindness. Confidence. Intelligence. Humor. Honesty.

And yeah, physical beauty is important too, but only after the other checkboxes have been ticked.

Pro Tip... Glenlivet 18 is amazing, too much of it is bad though, Makes Mondays worse.

No donuts for me, just aspirin

Never had a sip of Glenlivit 18, though I AM slowly working my way through a bottle of Elijah Craig. VERY good.

HUGS

Haven't gotten my ballot yet, though they went out on the 19th. Grrr.

Nothing else going on. Trying to get my Monday back-to-work mojo going. Mourning the loss of regular season baseball.

Editing a ghost story, should be done soon. About to start a tale of satanic possession in the suburbs, told entirely through social media posts (specifically those neighborhood apps like NextDoor).

Coffee would be a dream.
Cool profile pic, witty profile, excellent stories (I'll quit gushing now)
So many favorite writers on this list! Congrats everyone, and I look forward to reading your words!
HUGS

Congratulations to the top three, and the remaining 8. Lotsa my favorites in that list, and some new names too. Looking forward to dipping my toes into the stories of the winners (sorry, lost control of that metaphor about halfway through that sentence).

The Mets lost their last game of the season. Lost their last four, actually. Ended up tied for last place. Sigh. I will watch the playoffs, but without much enthusiasm.

We watched Carnival of Souls last night. Still amazed it has such power. WHAT ARE WE WATCHING FOR SCARY MOVIE NIGHT!?

A bourbon would be lovely.

Peace.
I have been with lots of younger women, when I was younger. My values have changed. I want different things now than I wanted then.
Did someone say magic brownies? Man, I'm becoming a Royal's fan, if each win means more goodies.

Only three more Mets games! They have about as much chance of a post-season as I have of flying, so I will have to wait 6 months for next season, and pray the world hasn't burnt down by then.

A lovely service for RGB this morning. I got a little choked up.

Ping (excuse me, KENNY!) (wait, it's .PNG now!), Annie said it's against the rules to leave and then come back under a new name (e.g. Fuzzyblue). Repent, O sinner! BTW, we are def starting The Americans this weekend, unless life intervenes.

When are we gonna have a scary movie night here at Rumps!? Halloween approaches!

Coffee me please. Let the baseball-less autumn commence.

What the hell? You stalking me when I log on?

The posts are coming FROM INSIDE THE HOUSE!!!

I live in your ductwork. Really enjoyed the leftovers in the fridge from last night, btw. Yum.

E. Edward Grey from The Secretary. I'd switch definitely.

I LOVE that movie.

Timothy Oliphant was in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood??? I'd never seen him in much before I saw that, he only became recognizable to me after Justified. But the news feed on my phone knows me better than my kids, better than LJ, because it notices what I click and remembers and always shows me more of what I want. And my FEED told me a bunch of trivia about Mr. Oliphant. I call it my guilty pleasures feed. Advice columns, celebrity gossip, soft-core cheesecake, goofy conspiracy theories. It'd not a pretty sight.

Wow, that was a long winded detour into the inner workings of my electronic life! Anybody get to the end of that last sentence?

I need more coffee, clearly.

Hope everyone is doing well.
HUGS

Glad to know you'll be returning home soon, Grace.

Jen, sorry to miss your birthday, though apparently you missed it too. smile

A serious bummer about FuzzyBlue leaving, but at least she tends to come back, and even reposts some of her older stories. She'll be back (I hope).

Not much up here. The Mets have a miniscule chance of getting into the playoffs, but with a losing record it's amazing they have any chance at all.

Coffee would raise the flag on my morning flagpole!

Today is my first wedding anniversary and my husband decided that because we can't celebrate it, he'll cook dinner (he cooks roughly once or twice a year.) Well, he's now set fire to the oven gloves that he placed on the hob, and the kitchen is a no-go zone for the next couple of hours whilst the smoke clears. He has never cooked without setting fire or exploding something ?

I'm going to have a large glass of wine...

Once, in my misspent youth, I started an oil fire in my parent's house while frying tortillas late at night while stoned. Scary af, but I got it under control myself. They found out when they saw the pan in the back yard (where I had thrown it).

HUGS

Hope everyone is well. Hey New Scott!

Thanks to the Holy Triumvirate of Caffeinated Goodness--Tonya, Kay, and Curvy--for the set-up.

And thanks to the High Priest of Pastry, Fuzz, for the donuts. I'll just grab a handful of sprinkles from the bottom of the box.

BOY, do the Mets suck.

I just took the afternoon off, I got vacation hours to kill. So yeah, slide me a beer. Let's get this party started.
Jessa, from Girls. She was the type of NYC bad girl that would've slayed me back in the day.

You had me at "university bio science archivist." smile

A few new faces in here. Hey Matt, hey Emma. Have a round on me.

Binged nothing this weekend, though The Americans is on the horizon. Had a good friend over, she hung out all weekend. LJ might as well have been running a writer's retreat, since every afternoon, said good friend and I would retreat to our laptops and write for a few hours. Lotsa good food, lotsa fun times. Hated going back to work this morning.

The news of RBG is too sad. I think it will help the Dems in the coming election, but at a HUGE cost. It's hard being a woman in today's America.

One more week of Mets baseball. They REALLY suck, but I'll still hate to see their season end.

Ice water please.
A poem for Sprite:

Our dear Sprite
You are a delight
On this site
You always fight
For what is right
And what a sight
Our hearts take flight
You turn the night
Into a delight
Let's fly a kite!

I didn't say it was a good poem. smile

Seriously, happy birthday, Rachael. You have been a good friend to me, and a help to so many on this site. Hugs.

my wife bought me a guitar a few years back, cause i'd wanted to learn, and yeah, i picked it up pretty easily - there's tons of How to Play vids on youtube - that and practice should do the trick. smile

Let's start a guitar and theremin band. We can name ourselves Purr.

Me too! Me too! You do it first smile I will start in 2022! Ha!

Start when I do! We can post out word counts here! First one done WINS!

It's cool how so many of these posts relate to music and writing.

I have been following you watching Justified. One of my all time favorite shows too. My son first told me about it and said he had a man crush on Timothy/Raylan. Every word you said here is right one in my opinion. Love the location photography too.

Yeah, I gotta admit to having a little man-crush on Timothy Elephant myself. smile

The location photography really is wonderful. Another great thing about the show: an incredible sense of place.
John Cuzack bought me a beer!

LJ got the stink-eye from Julia Roberts in a restaurant once.

Thanks for the hugs. Doing get out the vote calls is REALLY BORING! The calling is all done automatically, and you are on a loose script. The list is registered democrats, so people are pretty nice. Ran into 2 mean Trump supporters in an hour and a half. I argued with one a little, because he was asking me about how I could vote for someone "who couldn't form a complete sentence." I pointed out Biden was relatively sharp in the debates only 10 months ago, and dementia really doesn't progress that quickly, and the guy moved on to Covid "not being real." So I politely wished him well and moved on.

Exciting evening, huh?

Good to see you back, Grace. How are you feeling?

We have a really good friend coming down for the weekend. Should be lotsa fun, and we haven't seen her in a long time. I'm psyched!

HUGS. I hope everyone has a good weekend.

Coffee would light the fuse of my fireworks!
HUGS

I'm grumpy. Didn't sleep well. And because I promised I'd do Biden Get Out the Vote calls from 5-7 today, no long walk, which is one of my favorite parts of the day. I will still be able to write, at least.

Ping (excuse me PNGed!), good to see you writing again. I came up with an idea for the Lush time travel comp. A little late, sadly.

Done-ish with my Dad's eulogy, though I will tinker with it right up until the time I give it.

Thanks for the donuts, Carl. The Mets won too, a come from behind win that was fun to watch.

Coffee would be the cherry on the sundae that is my Thursday.
HUGS

Sara, watch an episode of Justified! Timothy Oliphant is DREAMY!

Not much up here either. Cooler day. I am still digging my daily walk (10,000-ish steps) and even find myself looking forward to it. It helps my writing too - getting all my thoughts squared away before I hit the keyboard. I've read that a ststionary bike is more effective, and it definately takes less time, so I may change over to that soon. But I enjoy the walk so much! I saw a garter snake yesterday!

Coffee would be a base hit with the bases loaded in the 9th inning of the tied baseball game that is my morning (sorry, that got a little convoluted).

An unpublishably high word count in this case is nine hundred eighty-thousand words, or 1.75 War and Peace. It was co-written late January 2019 to mid January 2020.

It's a romance scifi drama with erotic elements and deep characterization of the 2 protagonists.

You wrote 980,000 words IN A YEAR!? That's like 10 books!

How do you do it? I can barely write 1000 words in a day on my best days.
I know, I'm really late to the party on this one.

So I've been gushing about this show on another thread as I've been binge-ing it, but I just finished up Justified, and it's definately on my top ten of favorite TV series. The source material is the great Elmore Leonard, and they keep the tone of his writing and ear for dialogue.

Mostly it's the villains that make it work. It was a great parade of actors playing the villains--Walton Groggins (what a great name), Ron Eldard, Michael Rappaport (who was good even with a shitty accent), Sam Elliot yadayadayada--but it was also great writing, creating real three dimensional characters. An INCREDIBLY high body count. Timothy Elephant (sorry) was perfectly charming as Raylan Givens. And I liked that Raylan really was kind of trigger-happy, and made a few questionable decisions. The biggest achievement of the show was the character of Boyd Crowder, and the performance of Walton Groggins. Great writing, great acting.

Ha! Not even close! Actually, 2020 hasn't been to bad to me.

Do you give regularly to a charity/cause, and if so, which one?
Quote by RumpleForeskin

PNG, many thanks for the elucidation on the E. Leonard inspired series. The book is a strongly suggested read, as are most of his novels. It could double as a how-to text for aspiring bestselling authors on how to write one of those elusive suckers.

Thanks to the combined efforts of our 'Morning Doves' (Curvy, Tonya, and Big Bertha), a generous supply of BB's elixir of life awaits me. Think I'll grab a doughnut and brownie (or two) to go with a perfect breakfast. Anybody else need a drink? As for the edibles, it's every Rumplators for their own-self.

The holy triumvirate of caffeine: Curvy, Tonya and Bertha.

Yeah, Bill, the Justified series (on Hulu, maybe elsewhere) is based on several of Elmore Leonard's books: Pronto, Riding the Rap, and the short story Fire in the Hole (I think there's a couple more, but I haven't read them). Of them, Riding the Rap is the best (the first chapter actually got published in the New Yorker). The series is really good at capturing the feel of the novels, particularly the dialogue and colorful villians.

And Ping (excuse me, KENNY! oops, I mean PNG), that "We dug coal together" is a thread that runs through all 6 seasons. Fitting way to end the show. And that showdown on the highway is riveting.

HUGS to all!

Not much going on here. Politics is ripping apart a marriage of two of my favorite people, I am learning this morning. Sad.

Coffee would be the key to the lock of opening my day, barkeep.
