Our beloved cat died yesterday. She had been with us for 19 years. We were lucky to have her for so long. She was well-loved, lived a good life, and will be truly missed.
Sorry about the long night in the ER Tonya.
Life is a house on fire. Kôffēè please.
Yes! I even have a subject - how she dresses when she goes out clubbing. I swear I cold read her descriptions for hours.
Thanks for the brew, Unquenchable Cyn.
I did some more blathering over on the Shardoverse thread. Bill, our friendly bartender, commented, after which I blathered some more. I got paticularly interested in a project called mysexlifewithlola, which sort of mixes real life with fiction. The girl, Lola, does her thing, the guy, H H, writes about it. Interesting stuff. And hot.
Very belated happy birthday, little Ping.
Köffee please.
I'll have tea with Steph. She seems cool.
Hey Molly.
Happy birthday Sara! I'll but you a drink at the bar (with extra marshmallows!)!
So I broke the Shards (called Serious Moonlight now) into two pieces, because the whole thing was just too overwhelming.
The first half--26 stories--I am proud of, and they are all up on Amazon, ready to rock: line-edited, fomatted, with covers, categories, key words and burbs. Which buys me til mid-August or so. I have to write a monthly newsletter, and try to support via the web (Facebook, the website/blog), yadayadayada, but otherwise it's a matter of pushing a button once a week.
I am less secure about the second half of the stories, or the back 26, as I call them. Too wordy, too much dialogue. The meat is there, they are good stories, but they are sloppier in execution, and I think I was trying a little too hard. Oh well. I have 6 months to whip them into shape.
Thanks Curves, for getting everything up (heh) and running.
Hey, Gill. I am happy you got your parents to agee to downsizing. That can't be easy.
Nice to see you writing a second story, Reece. I haven't written a word for like a month. A lot of editing and formatting, but no new words. It's driving me a little batty. Battier, anyway.
Laura and I have decided that the next comp should have the theme of "Pearls." Make it so!
Köffee please.
I would. I have seen her around the forums and she seems witty and fun.
Still waiting on last night's Maker's Mark, but as it's morning you can just pour it into my köffee. Thanks for setting things up, Curves.
Still struggling to get back into the work week. A few projects have backed up in my email during the holidays - the first one is crossed off the to-do list, but I am taking a break to write this, and to steal a hot pic from BlackLeatherSkirt for my blog.
A ton of work done on the Shards (now called Serious Moonlight) during Christmas break. I'll write about it on the Shardoverse thread sometime soon, but I am feeling upbbeat and optimistic about the whole project (NOT how I felt told the end of last year).
Bill, you are right, I don't envy the judges. Partly because there are so mmany entries, partly because they are so long, and partly because there are at least three I've read deserving of the win, and I didn't even read most of them.
Enjoy 2019 everyone.
I will be an honorary mod for a few days and verify some tales, if it will help. (Seriously.)
You'll see no stories from me til after the new year. I gave up trying to write during all the holiday brew-ha-ha. Ha ha.
Ottumwa, Iowa is my hometown and I am thankful I grew up in the Midwest. Friendly and polite and not nearly as conservative as it's made out to be. And, at the time, a great school system.
New York City, though, will always have a pull on my soul. That was where I spent my young adulthood.
So I read all the comp entires coming from Rump patrons last night (plus Saucy's, cuz she has some serious game) except for Hannah's, which I will hit tonight. Let me know if I missed you. Nice crop of stories. Really creative choices by several writers.
Today I am formatting all day, because I promised myself I'd have the first 26 Shards done and in draft mode on Amazon by the end of the year. Lotsa work, but not unpleasant work. It means I am not writing, though.
Before I begin I have to go feed Jeff Jr FOUR different medicines, and then rub a sheet of cat pheromones around where he hangs out (I am not making this up). Supposed to calm him and make him feel cozy. I have this fantasy that when I walk down the street, all the cats who smell me feel suddenly chill. I leave stoned and happy felines in my wake.
Köffêè please.
I have read exactly one comp entry (Little Ping's, which I read first because of the hyphen he gave me for Christmas) but will make a full scale assault on them this weekend. I shall try to read all the entries of the denizens (did I use that word right?) of the bar, which now includes the lovely Ms. Reece.
Have I mentioned how wonderful it is to wake up next to Layla, especially on a day off, when I don't have to jump out of bed.
Thanks for setting up BB, Curvy the Unquenchable. I will have a cuppa.
JEFF JR IS COMING HOME TODAY! YAY! What an excellent Christmas present!
Merry Christmas Eve everyone. Good luck on the comp, those who are entering. I hope Christmas Day brings everyone life and light and love. And cool presents too! Me, I'll just sit around and play with my new hyphen.
Merry Christmas everyone!
Bird Box on Netflix. Good movie, harrowing opening. Good book too.
