The leather / pvc outfit stirs up all the right emotions for me too
If it weren't for the pirates, I'd love to cruise round the Caribbean in a yacht. The Scottish Islands would be a close second for sailing, there's some incredible scenery up that part of the world.
They're a disgrace

RENO, Nev. - A couple who authorities say were so obsessed with the Internet and video games that they left their babies starving and suffering other health problems have pleaded guilty to child neglect.

The children of Michael and Iana Straw, a boy age 22 months and a girl age 11 months, were severely malnourished and near death last month when doctors saw them after social workers took them to a hospital, authorities said. Both children are doing well and gaining weight in foster care, prosecutor Kelli Ann Viloria told the Reno Gazette-Journal.

Michael Straw, 25, and Iana Straw, 23, pleaded guilty Friday to two counts each of child neglect. Each faces a maximum 12-year prison sentence.

Viloria said the Reno couple were too distracted by online video games, mainly the fantasy role-playing "Dungeons & Dragons" series, to give their children proper care.

"They had food; they just chose not to give it to their kids because they were too busy playing video games," Viloria told the Reno Gazette-Journal.

Police said hospital staff had to shave the head of the girl because her hair was matted with cat urine. The 10-pound girl also had a mouth infection, dry skin and severe dehydration.

Her brother had to be treated for starvation and a genital infection. His lack of muscle development caused him difficulty in walking, investigators said.

The Straws have been given public defenders. Jeremy Bosler, head of the county public defender's office, declined to comment to The Associated Press on Saturday.

Michael Straw is an unemployed cashier, and his wife worked for a temporary staffing agency doing warehouse work, according to court records. He received a $50,000 inheritance that he spent on computer equipment and a large plasma television, authorities said.

While child abuse because of drug addiction is common, abuse rooted in video game addiction is rare, Viloria said.

Last month, experts at an American Medical Association meeting backed away from a proposal to designate video game addiction as a mental disorder, saying it had to be studied further. Some said the issue is like alcoholism, while others said there was no concrete evidence it's a psychological disease.

Patrick Killen, spokesman for Nevada Child Abuse Prevention, said video game addiction's correlation to child abuse is "a new spin on an old problem."

"As we become more technologically advanced, there's more distractions," Killen said. "It's easy for someone to get addicted to something and neglect their children. Whether it's video games or meth, it's a serious issue, and (we) need to become more aware of it."
Nice work if you can get it, paid or not

Condom tester position offers job satisfaction

An Australian manufacturer has called for applications for what it claims could be the world's best job - condom tester.

Durex marketing manager Sam White said any Australian over the age of 18 could apply for one of 200 positions as a condom tester.

The position is not paid, but successful applicants will receive a free $A60 ($NZ66) selection of Durex products and will be required to provide the company with honest feedback about the products' performance.

One of the lucky 200 testers will win a $A1000 bonus.

Applicants must explain why they would make an expert condom tester, Mr White said.

"With this job on your CV, it really will be a chance to brag to your mates about the special skills you possess, not to mention that your new role will work wonders with the opposite sex," he said.

"Who wouldn't want to have a chance with an actual authorised professional?"

One thing's for sure - it's a job where employees won't mind taking their work home and burning the midnight oil.

CONGRATULATIONS INSOMNIAC
You have entered the Century Club of Lush Posts - and as ever with an excellent one.

Thanks Susan, I hadn't even noticed. Do I now get my own parking space 'n everything?
The homeless guy is great. Just think, you could make hundreds of them and scatter them all round the busiest areas of your city, put a hat out by each one, and at the end of the day, go and collect all the money. You'd probably have to get a kid to watch the dummy all day to make sure no-one realised and exposed the hoax. Ah what the heck, just hire a kid all day, dress him up in tattered clothes, rub mud on his face, and split the proceeds. I'm going to start with my young son. Will let you know how it goes.

A great advert (which has little meat to it - if I dare express it in that way) for a $21 book.

The journalist likes his words, doesn't he !! He actually has nothing to say or contribute.

You should be a critic Susan, you have an excellent way of putting people down!

Have you any new stories up your sleeve?

Looks like lots of bones to pick through though.
How did she get bumps and bruises if she was in a bouncy castle?

Some strong winds out there in the Pacific. At least it was a happy ending.
Happy half a year old birthday!

Congratulations on your prize Susan

I'm still gunning for the 10,000th post prize
"The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time" was quite a remarkable book considering he had autism.

I like Bill Bryson's travelogues. He has a very down to earth way of writing I relate to.

The only other one there I've read is Life of Pi, which I really liked.

There's some awful dross in there too - "Captain Corelli's Mandolin" - had to listen to a co-worker going on about the movie incessantly one day
That's funny. Amazing what you can get away with on the interweb these days.

such a bore
gone for sure
he went......d'oh

spammers suck.
I've lost some good friends to that stupid World of Warcraft game. More addictive than crack apparently. And this is coming from someone who plays Thief and a few other video games off and on.

Funny video though!

HERE IS LATE BREAKING NEWS

Susan says she has posted the 10,000th message.

She is now undergoing intensive arithmetical tutelage, and the report from the Mental Institute is hopeful for a partial recovery. Maybe. Perhaps.

Remember her in your prayers tonight.

Reading, riting and rithmatic huh?

I'm going to write a post bot to make sure I get the 10,000 post prize. $10,000? That would be good
I would guess that's a seriously good deal for the new owners, especially considering Youtube sold for 2.2bn. That did come with millions of users already though.

I float like a butterfly

or even
I float like a butterfly
In rings that are square

Come on everyone .. lets have fun with this
Can anyone add ONE further line to EACH of the above?

Greedy Lassy!

I float like a butterfly
In rings that are square
Other pugilists think they can take me down
But as try as they might, they ne'er

I float like a butterfly
From Ali to Clay
I am the greatest
But going to war, no way

There is a trend over here in the US at the moment, whereby increasing numbers of women will not put out prior to marriage. It's a disaster More often than not though, they are happy to give head instead. Not like the real deal though.

I'm not sure it's for religious reasons or just a passing phrase - hopefully the latter.

Personally I wouldn't mind that she's had a number of partners, provided it isn't something like 100+. Not sure where the line is drawn on the actual numbers front I don't buy into the whole "you can teach her" argument at all, as an excuse not to have full intercourse prior to marriage.
