Sadly, my competition story didn’t make the Top 10 this time around. I’m not entirely surprised, as its slightly off-beat subject matter (an abusive gay relationship, which leads to a gay character restarting their life by turning straight) isn’t an obvious subject for a “Lush” story, and may not have resonated with the judges.

To be honest, it was a bit of a step outside my own comfort zone, but I think it is a writer’s duty to challenge themselves, as well as their readers. And I’ve been encouraged by some of the very positive feedback I’ve had from readers, who seem to have appreciated what I tried to do.
