Still smarting over the fact that my competition entry didn't even merit a mention in the top 20. I really thought I'd come up with the goods this time. It was funny, naughty, had a neat twist, had a "beginning, middle and end" and was inspired by the pic, as per requirements. And I had some great comments, several people said it was one of their favourites. I actually read all the other entries, and while I didn't think mine was the best, it wasn't bad. But then it got zilch.

Thanks for putting up with my moans. Isn't that what bars are for?

Now I'll just go and get drunk by myself in the corner.

Several readers have been in touch to say how surprised they were that my competition story - "Forgive Me Father For I Have Sinned"- didn't even get a "top 20" mention.

Thanks, everyone, for your kind thoughts and commiserations. I was a bit surprised myself, especially after all the great comments I had on the story itself, suggesting that my readers appreciated the way I'd managed to craft a funny, naughty little story with a clever twist, all in 100 words, all imaginatively inspired by the photo.

I'd hate it to sink without trace, so if you haven't read it yet, please do. It's only 100 words, so won't take long!

Nine years ago today, June 8th 2011, I formally joined Lush. That's nearly a third of my life spent as a Lushie!

To mark the occasion, I've got a new story online. It may not be everyone's cup of tea - a) it's a poem, and b) it's about man/man sex - but it is inspired by a real place not too far away from where I live, which I recently discovered to be an "official" cruising site for gay men! And if it hadn't been for the coronavirus lockdown, I probably wouldn't have been spending so much time exploring my neighbourhood, and would probably never have stumbled across this particular patch of woodland... I've always thought of myself as quite sexually alert, but I actually walked through it several times, wondering why there were often single men hanging about in there, before the penny dropped.

So that's the background, and this is the poem - "If You Go Down In The Woods Today".

If any UK gay guys recognise the pic, and think "Wow, I've been there," do please let me know (by PM if you'd rather!) And if I've made any serious errors in my guesses about cruising etiquette, please let me know about those too. I just used my filthy imagination for those bits...
