I had so many great comments about my Microfiction competition story that I was inspired to write another piece, set in the same "story universe", though not formally linked to it.

You can read it by following this here link - "A Lift Home".

Thanks to those who've already popped by and left some great comments, including:

"I love everything about your story (and the cover picture)! It's viciously and deliciously dirty." (Sheherazade)

"Another very subversive piece of utter filth. Loved it." (TheTravellingMan)

"Oh so deliciously naughty... The picture is perfect and that last killer line is so perfect" (Deviantsusie)

"You definitely live up to your username because this was naughty as hell." (CarltonStJames)

Sadly, the anonymous person who scored it a "1" was too cowardly to reveal their identity by leaving a comment, though if they had it would presumably have read something like "I hate you and all your crappy stories. Fuck off and die".

Or maybe they didn't have time, because their mother had just called them out of their bedroom for dinner .
*pokes head round door*

Did I leave my credit card here last night?

Black coffee please...
And, by way of apology for cluttering up the thread with all these posts, I've left my credit card behind the bar. The drinks are on me!

Until my credit runs out...

Annie, it is a weirdness how some times we sweat and strain over a story that gets, at best, a good but not great reception. Then something we knock off while waiting on the water to boil wins accolades, blue ribbons, contests, and assorted 'Atta boys' from other writers.

Just more proof that the old flying fickle finger of fate works in strange and mysterious ways, imo.

Thank you, mine host! All these nice people are keeping my glass full, so I'm feeling much more cheerful now.

I've decided that the accolades from my readers are what really matters, and I've had some lovely ones.

And, as I said in reply to someone else, Terry Pratchett was never nominated for the Booker Prize, and it never did him any harm.

Annie, sorry about your story. I understand the disappointment and hurt but as others have said,”Look at all Props you got from the Readers!”

Thank you so much xxx

Every time I read a nice comment like this I realise that it's the comments from the people who read for fun that matter most to me.

I understand your disappointment. I thought your story was great! I'd chalk it up to their being so many entries this time around. But, it's hard to not get a nod when you've worked really hard on a story!

I'm in need of a major hit of caffeine!! Not sleeping well with hubby on the road again this week.

Hope all y'all are hanging in there!

Thanks, Kat. In my less grumpy moods, I know I'd rather have the sweet and lovely support of the people who read for fun than the pat on the head from a couple of anonymous judges.

Congrats on the engagement, Martin, and on approaching your MLC with a spirit of adventure and excitement! Good luck to you and Ines. I am sure you do not need it. Congrats on finishing the 60K words of En France.

And hey, Annie, sorry you felt your story was overlooked. I've been there too. Sometimes stories just don't catch the readers the way you'd like. Comes with the territory. You have a TON of readers who love you though.

Work is again annoying today. Gotta put my head down and get to it.

I'd love a köffee.

Thanks, Verbal, your kind comments mean a lot. I think the issue is that it caught the real-world readers exactly as I'd hoped, but not the judges.

I'm comforted by the fact that Terry Pratchett was never nominated for the Booker Prize either.
