Can the voting format be changed? As of now, when we pick a number from the drop-down menu the score immediately takes effect. This is especially annoying on a phone or a tablet.

Perhaps there can be a prompt that says 'Are you sure you want to vote [insert number here]?' Or maybe instead of it being a drop-down menu of numbers, all the numbers can be listed with bubbles or a check-box next to them and after selecting a score, we click submit.

This. Radio buttons would be a much better option and would probably eliminate the need to go back and change (except for those who are worried about thin-skinned authors)
The bext thing to do is just edit it to say something like "Double post - please delete" - a friendly mod might come along and get rid of it for you.
The horror. Sorry Nic, I think it looks awful.

And just wait until you see one with an animated gif as the background. They should probably come with a PSE warning.

The little icons were obviously made for a white background so all look a bit ropey now (the FR button in particular). Callisto's profile looks terrible, Possibly's even worse.

Shit, the more I see, the more I keep thinking "MySpace"

This seems largely redundant to me. The people who send you those sorts of Friend Requests clearly can't be bothered to read through your profile - what difference will a pop-up box make?

I would have thought that most people who do this are friend collectors, and aren't going to be deterred by a secondary reminder of what your bio already states. They'll just try their look. If they were seriously interested in getting to know you, they'd have read your profile first.

Maybe it would be helpful if when you send a friend request to someone they could see your profile as a friend would. That is, if you have your photos albums and activity available for friends only, anyone you send a request to can have access to that info as well. This would be a one-way arrangement until the FR is confirmed.

Thanks Buz. Sorry your work has been stolen. It really speaks to the world condition more than anything else. Sad.

It's common for almost any type written work to be ripped off once it's available on the internet. It's nigh on impossible to put information on a website without someone being able to steal it with a few simple clicks. Yes, it's shitty. Yes, it's annoying but thankfully in the vast majority of cases that's all it is. These people aren't going to get a three book deal from Harper Collins, they're not going to negotiate film rights and they definitely will not be taking any food from your mouth. All they will have is your story on their crappy little 10 hits a day website. Those who try to publish on sites similar to Lush with a similar level of popularity, tend to get found out pretty quickly and get treated accordingly.

Taking down stories to protect them seems a little extreme and a bit harsh on the 99.99% of people who know how to behave themselves.

"When I'm having sex with women, most of them are often eager to put my penis in their mouths."

This sounds rather illogical to me. Not only women do not have many mouths, but the plural form kinda projects that many mouths are working on my penis at the same time when I'm only expressing a generality; there's only one mouth implied in each individual instance.

Your original statement implies you're having sex with lots of women at once.

"During sex, women are often eager to put my penis in their mouths" it's still a horribly clunky sentence

"Their House" probably crops up quite a lot more on google as it describes more than one person living in one house:

"The couple moved into their house in March"

whereas

"The property owners on the street had to repaint their houses every 10 years"

In everyday language misuse of "their" has come about generally because of a lack neutral possessive. This gives rise to it being common to hear the word with a singular noun after it.

"Someone's left their bag here" - it's wrong but you hear it (and worse, read it) all the time.
People still trotting out the "serif fonts are easier to read on screen" bollocks - been said so much people still believe it in an age of retina screens. Show me some reputable studies to prove this.

That "easier to read" line might have had some validity in the nineties when people were getting used to their 16 colour VGA screens. The truth is, nowadays people are just so used to consuming information in Verdana or Arial anything else can look uncomfortably unfamiliar.

In the nineties, websites were in Times New Roman* - a font that suffered with being used with all horrors of 1990s web design - everyone learnt to hate it and in the end all the other serif fonts suffered because of it. It was replaced largely by Arial and then by the mid-2000s everyone noticed that the BBC and other popular news sites used Verdana - then everyone used it. If you want to make your site look a bit "2006" the best place to start is to use Verdana.
(*even Jakob Neilsen's usability.com)

Serifs are not some arcane throwback to an age of moveable type; they actually keep your eye moving. Some have used studies to argue that serif font actually put less strain on eyes - though I'm inclined to agree with the number of studies that show absolutely no difference in the readability of serif and non-serif fonts.

The choice is purely a matter of style. Georgia seems to have a good look and feel for fiction, which is probably why amazon chose it.

One last point, if you can't read it properly just forget your vanity and put your bloody reading glasses on.
Another problem is that when you're zoomed in the overflow (the cog, the magnifying glass and the stupid kennel) end up layered over the screen. Being white on white they're pretty much invisible but it means if you tap the screen while writing a forum post or message you might be taken to the home page.

UX isn't easy and the huge explosion in the use of various mobile devices presents more challenges. It would be great if Lush had an adaptive, fluid design that worked the same across all devices but I can imagine that could be a way off given the time involved.

I think for this time, just switch it back to how it was.
Is anyone else here enjoying the irony of the number of posts on this thread from "Guest"?

And please, refrain from accusing me of 'stating the obvious'. There are actually people here who care about interacting with genuine persons (myself included), even if that's on a purely friendly level. I'm also quite concerned about young girls who could potentially send compromising pictures of themselves to individuals pretending to be someone else.

I bet you also read all the stories here and think to yourself "Bollocks, that never happened, you're just making it all up"

In my experience, it's usually the ones who bang on about being 100% real and hating fakers that are the ones you should be most wary of. They tend to be paranoid ones.

The simple way to avoid being sent a "fake" image is to never ask for one.
Well, I hate to say I told you so but this is what I said on 10th June…

So yeah - likely semis are Brazil v Germany and Spain v Argentina - don't be surprised if that gives a Germany v Argentina final.

My head says Argentina.

Just ignore the rest of the rubbish I came out with.

When searching for members a function that allows you to see who is online?

In addition to what clum said - there's actually a page to show who's online at any time http://www.lushstories.com/members-online.aspx

Of course, normal game rules apply, it only shows those who aren't set as invisible.

Invisibility is a wonderful thing but yes it can prove frustrating if your friends enjoy the benefits of invisibility too
Brazil might find the weight of expectation too much for them. They should have the measure of all the teams in their group, Croatia and Mexico both required play-offs to qualify and Cameroon are still relying on Samuel Eto'o in his fourth world cup for their goals (would have been 5 but they missed out in 2006) though look out for German born Choupo-Moting.

Brazil's path through the knock-out phase could come a cropper depending on what happens in Spain's group: Chile are a strong South American side and could make things very tricky for Spain and the Netherlands (sorry Australia, can't see you doing much more than making up the numbers on this one). Whoever finishes second in this group will almost certainly face Brazil in the first knock out round - if Spain slip up against Chile then it could be them.

England's draw looks tough and it is - it has the highest average ranking of all the groups and a total of seven world cups between them. That said, Uruguay were disappointing in qualification and although they have true world class players up front, they're useless at the back. Italy are out of sorts and out of form but of course, they're Italy. Coming out of this group they will face the teams in Group C - none of whom should give too many nightmares. After that it's the quarter finals and we all know what happens there.

Argentina's draw has been very favourable and they should proceed comfortably to the quarter finals where they're likely to face Belgium. Yes, Belgium - believe it or not they're fifth favourites to win. They're meant to be the tournaments dark horses - this is mainly down to them having a hell of a lot of premier league players in. Realistically though, they have far too many Tottenham players to be taken seriously.

I personally think Belgium are going out in the 2nd round to the runners up from Group G - which after England's group is probably the most interesting - Germany, Portugal, Ghana and USA. This will probably be Ronaldo's last chance to make a real impact on the world cup and I reckon he's going to really turn it on for this one. Germany have a heap of talent but have a problem up front; with Reus missing they might have to fall back on the 2006 partnership of Klose and Podolski to get their goals. Ghana v USA on 16/6 will be well worth a watch - the winners could well sneak though out of this group, a draw suits neither.

So yeah - likely semis are Brazil v Germany and Spain v Argentina - don't be surprised if that gives a Germany v Argentina final.

My head says Argentina.

COME ON ENGLAND!

They tend to have that effect on people.

And unfortunately, I am less than lacking in the graphic skills department. It's quite sad, really. With that being said, I can't take credit for the infamous flashy panties that have made me who I am today. That goes to someone on here that I don't even have the decency to remember.

She may have deleted her account, now that I think about it.

I couldn't possibly advocate violence!!

@Sara, in fairness, the OP didn't say "men on Lush", they just said "men"...

It is a very generalising statement but having only been here a few days she probably hasn't meet the other types of men here yet:

"I won't talk to you until you prove you're a woman on cam - then you can show me your tits"

or

"If I send you 10 pics of my cock will you show me your tits"

or

"I'm a writer too and I find your work has a refreshing edge to it. I've written you a poem - now show me your tits"

or

"I'm a 40-something married man, show me your tits."
This has happened before on profiles - I think that time it was down to rogue hot linked gifs from some dodgy website.

Switch to chrome and see if that helps
I don't know if Youtube's compression has messed with the sound but I find the music in those videos actually grates rather than relaxes. Though i'm not listening on headphones so that might have something to do with the overall effect

Not sure how you could meditate to it
Not describing the size of a girl's tits will not make your story more vague nor, for that matter, will describing them make your story any more real.

In my most recent story I spend two paragraphs describing the main character's tits - there's only about a dozen paragraphs in the whole story! I go into a lot of detail because that's what the story is about: the narrator fixates on the woman's tits - so we need a lot of detail. It needs to be that way so the reader is in no doubt that the narrator knows more about her tits than anything else about her.

Put detail where you need it but don't rely on your reader's imagination to do your story-telling for you.

I really don't mind punctuation being corrected as well as typos etc, but I had a Moderator change "take away" to "take out". It must have been an American Moderator who changed it. I was really annoyed. They both mean the same thing, so I thought it was a pretty petty change. I have nothing against the American usage of English and the terms that are common there, but I'm British and that's how we say it. I felt that one change, in a way, spoilt the whole story.

A mod changed "travelling" to "traveling" in one of my stories. It bugs me still.

This is one of the side effects of a soft block of a friend. I had someone else ask me something similar, I think they were scared off the block as it sounded a little harsh. Maybe it needs a new name and better implementation?

Mute
Hide
Ghost

Essentially, they cannot see you online and their activity is blocked from your feed. I'm thinking to these muted friends would also lose their poking powers.

Soft blocks are notoriously tricky to implement without the blockee being able to work out they're being individually shut out... the Follow List drop on block bug/feature is a good example.

I wonder if a more contextualised timeline might be more helpful. Instead of being a strict timeline it could be a more joined up view of the activity of your friends. eg "User1, User2 and User3 have commented on StoryX", "User4 and User5 contributed to ForumY", "User6 and User7 have published new stories in the last week". Not a simple implementation by any means but maybe something to work towards.
First thing to enter my head?

Bizarrely, it was the George Orwell quote "At 50, everyone has the face he deserves" and I wondered if the same would be true for women's tits.

Try 9 Days!!Maybe it just seems longer!

9 days is an age on lush. I think it's the average lifespan of the "married to..." option on a user's relationship status
The only problem with RRs is that while the decision to award one is from an individual mod, the accountability is brought on to the mods as a collective. Any criticism for the actions of individuals just gets pointed at the system as a whole.

When the system was introduced I suggested that the RR should publicly show who it was recommended by. I know this would never be acceptable because it would cause even more problems and accusations than the present system, but any reward system that is, on the outside at least, opaque and unaccountable will tend towards creating accusations (rightly or wrongly) of favouritism and corruption.

I can fully understand how the admins and verifiers here find the "system's bent" narrative tiresome, insulting and just downright ungrateful but that doesn't mean that those on the outside of the system should take their eyes off the ball at any time or stop questioning why things happen in a certain way.

What's seen as "subjective" to one person can be "arbitrary" to another. Basing the award of an RR by the number of straight 5s it get is just daft, especially for poems. A lot of them are just sob stories about being jilted by some internet lover. Of course they attract 5s, what else are they going to get? "Hmmm, I think I'll give you 3/5 - could grieve harder"

I know many of the mods will disagree but it is my opinion that "putting yourself out there" will attract more awards. For the majority of writers the only mod who will ever see their story will be the verifier - if they don't wow her it's unlikely anyone else will read it and give the award. The more aware mods are aware of your work - be it through being on your friends list or by your presence on the site in general - the more of them are likely to read it. Each time one reads it you get another chance that someone will like it enough to click the button.
