Maybe you or I won't, but I think the majority of people would expect that a higher level of membership for a higher cost should offer SOMETHING for their money, and I was merely posing the question of what more could be offered that wasn't currently available to gold members. Perhaps just an option to donate money without purchasing any type of premium on a one time basis.

The option to gift memberships is available. Users who want to give more money could buy them for their friends or run their own competitions on the forum/chat rooms

That's a really good idea. Many people prefer to keep their profile totally clean or softcore only.

How about instead of a customised message, we add 3 options in the profile settings for friends' comments: Safe For Work / Softcore / Hardcore. The relevant symbol would be shown to the right of the section title so friends know what they should and shouldn't post.

Does that work?

We could go the route of people classifying their entire profile as either Safe For Work / Softcore / Hardcore, but there may be a few problems. What if a friend posts something hardcore on your profile, ignoring the Safe For Work indicator? And who would want a pop up saying, "This profile has been deemed hardcore, continue? Yes / No"?

Sorry, thinking out loud, taking the idea further.

I think a message allows people to be as specific or as general as they prefer. Of course you'll get people who ignore the warnings, or have those who believe that hardcore porn with a black and white filter suddenly makes it erotic - but then we already have a delete & block facility to manage those people ;)
Could we have the facility to customise a message right next to the "Post comment" button on our profiles.

Just long enough for people who don't want things like hardcore porn or animated gifs to say so hopefully in a position where it will be noticed.

1) a way of making notes against friends' names, or a way of recording chats longer - too difficult to remember everyone's personal details !

There's a notepad function on everyone's profile - even your own! Up in the top left above the avatar. And don't worry, they can't see what you write on there.

Very useful for remembering snippets of info or prompts such as "Cat's name: Mr Wriggles" or "Psycho: avoid"

What makes me chuckle about people that put faith in numerology is that they fail to understand that not all cultures have used the base 10 math that current numerology is based on.

Or use the same calendar! In all all other aspects, aside from being 365 days long, our own calendar is entirely arbitrary.

i am not saying its cut and dried and applicable to everyone the same way, when u study numerology you are basically studying energies and patterns and behaviours, its relative to ones region and culture, not all number 9 women will live a bisexual or lesbian lifestyle but the ones who are in an environment where they can live it out will try to,

I have to correct here, when you study numerology you waste your time studying a load of bollocks.

Here are some more lesbians for you

Ellen DeGeneres 26th
kd Lang 2nd
Sandy Toksvig 3rd
Sue Perkins 22nd

Excuse me while i get overwhelmed by energies and patterns

I am not rich or well off but not broke and earn the average for the UK, but in reality yes I do think and stick to this - I want to pay for what I get I don't to pay pay towards somebody else's clothes/ shoes and if someone is smaller than me then yes they should pay lees than me also.

Picking at detail or hurling rubbish insults to try and prove a point doesn't really add to this thread.

Thanks for the non flaming though.

The thing you're not getting though is that price for fast-moving consumer goods is set at what consumers are willing to pay not at how much the items cost to produce.

There are many other factors as well like economies of scale. The most popular women's size in M&S is 14. If they order 1000 units at size 14 and 500 at size 8, the unit price for the 14s will be cheaper than the smaller size 8s.

It's a question of value perception. The size 8 shopper is getting the same value as the size 14 because both have something that performs the same function for them. It's not like charging the same for a cheeseburger as a Big Mac

Next time you are in a Supermarket or a clothes shop check out say the dresses and see what is the smallest compared to the largest size for the same design, you will find they are generally the same price.

Is this fair to the size 10 purchaser?

Do you also imagine the price of this shoe is based on the amount of leather used to make it?

Just so you don't think I am a skinny runt, I am 14St 4Lb and 6' 1", and have a 3Month target to get to 13St. And wear XL/XXL tops, more expense on larger clothes would give me more incentive not less as seems to be most peoples logic on here.

You're about the same height and weight as me. If I dropped down to 13 stone I'd still have to buy XL tops. Shops don't want to disadvantage people just because they are naturally different shapes. Shops that specifically cater for sizes outside the "normal" range - charge significantly more than high street chains

People who are small can get their clothes cheaper anyway - in the sales they're the only size available on the racks!

You're very funny. I think that I'm going to like you.

I explained the subordinate clause earlier. [s]Wasn't[/s] Weren't you listening?
Engagement is the key - this doesn't have to be through complex plot or character development - you're writing short stories here. Why bother telling the reader the girl was "blonde, 5'6 and slim" when none of those have any bearing on what's going to happen in the story? Also your reader may not find her attractive now and might start to lose engagement. If she's a shy girl and that's pertinent to the story, that's how you need to lead.

"She was a quiet girl, the kind of girl who wore kirby grips." On its own, as a description, that statement is pretty meaningless but hopefully it's enough lure to hook the reader in to want to know more. You have to give the reader just enough to make them fill in the blanks with their imagination. If they don't have to imagine anything, they won't.

There are more threads like this in the Ask the reader and Ask the author section of the forum

On another note, your forum sig pic is way too large. They shouldn't be more than 150px in height.

I have just watched a program on fat people - too fat to work!

I'm sure that the producers picked the least intelligent people, but my question is - are these really big humans really stupid enough to think that the huge amounts of food that they consume doesn't add to their weight that along with doing basically nothing

It was mind blowing to listen to them.

Both this and the Katie Hopkins program has opened my eyes to the major problem of obesity across the Globe but mainly in the UK and USA.

Opinions welcome.
Ideal solutions welcome.

If Katie Hopkins is opening your eyes, the people on that reality show may not be the only idiots
Regarding the "recent forum posts" section on profiles.

Could user quotes be removed from these or at least highlighted as quotes. On more than a couple of occasions I've had to explain to friends that the whacked out opinions they're reading as my recent forum posts are not ones I've written but ones I am responding to.

Hate to shatter too many illusions/dreams, but as someone who works in computing and repairs both personal and business machines...

No, I don't bother looking at other peoples files, people expect and deserve privacy. The only exception to this is when asked to recover files, and I need to check to make sure any recovered files are readable.

I work in the UK and we are bound by the "Freedom of Information Act", this governs what a business (or an individual within a business) can hold, circulate and use information regarding to clients. Were I to be fool enough to invade someone's privacy, and even worse to then circulate what was found, it could result in prosecution, loss of job, and goodbye to any re-employment within IT.

So unless you had the pictures set as your wallpaper, the repair guy is unlikely to have seen them, and too busy/professional to go routing through your pic's "just in case..." Also you state "both photos had been cropped to only show the top of her pubic hair" so even if they were set as wallpaper, the repair guy is unlikely to know whose public hair it is?

As always YMMV

Sorry to be an annoying pedant but that's the Data Protection Act not Freedom of Information. FOI only covers public bodies - though the two acts can conflict at times (the DPA almost always overrides FOI)

No, it's not sarcasm.

My point is, is that Jeremy has written and published hundreds of stories over the years and would be well apt for the story moderating requirements.

Not everyone wants to be on the mod team. It suits some people and not others
Basically, what he said

There are plenty of reasons for people to disable profile comments, some of which are:

Some people enjoy posting a lot of very large gifs on profiles - this can make things slow for you if you're not on a fast connection. Most of the time they're the same crappy gifs they post on ALL their friend's profile - some ropey three second slice of porn they found on a Tumblr.

A lot of people don't enjoy hardcore porn being posted on their profile. They put a lot of work on their profile and don't want it spoilt by what one of their friends thinks looks cool.

Another reason people disable their comments is that sometimes one friend can take it over - posting three or four images whenever someone else posts on there. Basically using your profile the same way dogs use a lamp-post.

I'm wondering when after this 6 months is up and the inbox pm's will be stopped for the free members, I saw in another thread a man mention he had all his email, , etc ID's posted on his profile page. I'm wondering if like several dating sites I can think of where they do not allow that info on the profile page to force members to pay up. Since if their ID's are on the page, obviously they can be contacted offsite.

Many disguise their ID's in various ways to get around it, but once it's seen it's removed. One site is crafty, they have it appear to you, but to other members it's blocked, so people don't know unless another member tells them. I'm wondering if posting our contact info on our profile pages will even be allowed at all. If using the inbox system is taking up bandwith, server space what have you, I understand them cutting it, but if not allowing ID's on the pages, then no way to contact people other than to pay up.

The model you've described is that of dating/hook-up website - one specifically set up to profit from inter-user communication. Lush has always been primarily a publishing website - though I'll admit I, like many others here, first came here through the chat rooms. I may be proved wrong but this new system seems to be designed to pay for resource heavy services not to cash in on them.

Given the high percentage of women on here who are either invisible or "away" I can't see many of them publicly listing their off-lush contact details - most steadfastly refuse any communications off-lush. If a new guy joins up and puts his contact details up waiting for hot women to bite, he really shouldn't hold his breath.
I've not investigated but maybe there's an option for payment using app stores.

That way membership could be bought as an in-app purchase and any payments would go through via iTunes or Google Play. If there was a problem with Lush being an adult site, it could be covered by making premium accounts on blue site that work here as well.

No, you're quite right, and that is my point exactly.

If you have prior knowledge of a company's deteriorating financial position, and it is apparent that the company is teetering on the edge of closure, then you would be mad to buy a service from that particular service provider.

Thank you. I could not have said it better myself.

And what's more, a company has no legal obligation to reimburse its customers' loses after closure.

The long run in on this suggests that this is actually good planning rather than a desperate grab for cash before it all goes tits up.

You're suggestion of trying to get a certain number of gold memberships to keep it free for everyone else is exactly what the site has been doing for the past two years - trouble is, if people don't have to pay, they won't and haven't. This new model WILL work because it will either decrease the load of IM traffic/video storage/chat connections, OR there will be plenty of money to pay for it. Either way the site carries on without going into slow decline and eventual failure.

Of course who this really is going to hurt is those sleazes who like to set up multiple accounts here. My heart bleeds for them, it really does.
Quote by Fugly
After reading the entire thread and understanding both sides of the story, I wonder if there may be a solution that will suit all instead of the bickering.

How would it be if there were two free memberships?

One free membership for just reading stories and one free membership for just the social side of Lush? I know that many come for just the stories and many just come on here for their friends/chat/forums. Maybe this could be discussed with admin?

As for those who do not want to pay for membership because they don't have paypal or credit card, you can simply send me the money via post and I will happily gift you the membersip

Reading stories has a very low resource intensity - you could easily fit all the stories here on a single SD Card. The interaction and postings have huge resource intensity. All those thousands of crappy animated gifs clogging up the inboxes and profiles. All those chatboxes making server calls every couple of seconds. All those pokes.

As an avid profile surfer, and I mean AVID! and a serial forum poster, I don't think I'm way off the mark.

You're incredibly way off the mark. 50% of accounts never make it past day one. Over the last month there were around 17,000 active members.

I have a poem at 15,000+ views

My erotic poems have anywhere from 2000,10,000 views. Not bad for a poem writer.....hahahha

If they were stories they'd have 5x as many views but probably less comments and votes. It's simply the nature of things.
Quote by simplyjohn

Thats quite a profound statement. On what basis do you make that statement?

Personally I read poems since I just dont have the concentration/attention span to read stories (unless they are quite short) and enjoy reading good poetry.

Pretty much what RejectReality said.

Poems have a tiny views to votes ratio compared to stories which tells you that they are of greater interest to signed-in, interactive users. These people make up less than 3% of site visitors.

Even poems that become EPs struggle to register a few thousand views - casual visitors don't want to read them. That's what I mean when I say the majority don't come here to read poems.
