I'm not sure if this was asked earlier in the thread but what is the 'or' it kind of has a cliff hanger of don't submit stories .... and it ends with 'or .' like ... I keep checking back to see if it has been updated /tweaked but the cliffhanger still stands.
stories that take place in Oregon.

I understand Burnout. I walked away for almost 5 years without even an itch to write anything. It turns out job stress was at least part of the problem. Now that ive retired i have a desire again.
Now it remains to see if i can still compose long prose anymore
Anyway its good to see you again. Id hate it if you left just as i came back but i do get it if thats where you are 🤷♂️
going thru the same the past few years. stories are few and far btwn these days. of course, I have other creative outlets to keep me busy, so it's not so bad. and I do write something from time to time, even going to give it a shot with the comp, tho I keep saying that and I keep not doing it. lol
Hmm... first off, great question. it started out with me writing an erotic story. well, not the first i'd written, but i'd slowly been evolving from writing fiction and poetry to smut (I love that work, smut - I use it a lot). so I wrote a kind of superhero comic book themed story involving Supergirl cosplay and sent it in. just to see what would happen. i'd just realized that I wanted someone else besides me to read it and what the hell and...
well, people did. not a lot of people - lush was VERY small 14 (yes, it really has been that long) years ago, but some did. so I wrote another. and another and then there was a comp and I figured, hell, why not, and I won... i mean, seriously. first place. and a LOT of people took notice and started reading my stories and it was kind of a nice feeling and a bit addictive so it inspired me to write more. and then, well... the luster wore off a little. i mean, I like the recognition, but I found that the real impetus to writing was I liked to create characters and weave stories and I started doing it just for me - I got weird too - like it didn't matter if it was popular, I just wanted to write stuff I enjoyed, so that's pretty much what I do now. i write stories for me and I share them and it's great if people like them, but mostly, I like writing them and getting lost in the worlds i create and that's what really matters. ![]()

Thank you so much, Bear and Sprite! I needed someone to tell me that. Since reading the comp announcement, 5K has been in my head, but my inner voice screamed I had to reach 10K or I was doing it half-assed. I have tremendous pressures on me right now with work and Dad. I’m gonna reset and do whatever I can do and be happy with my story! It’s looking like 5K. And the perfect weekend to write with all the rain!
The EOY software upgrade coming soon at work, so I’ll be an early entry in this comp. ;)
yeah, any thing over 1k is good. i mean, 10k is a lot! i doubt most will hit that mark.

This is a great theme and I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone conjures up for us to read.
No ideas of my own have jumped out at me yet. Maybe a half-concept last night, but it's going to need some thought before I commit to it or do something else.

Well, here’s my cover art at the moment. I’m posting so it will hopefully make me follow-thru with this. So far, I have a 500 word intro and a 500 word ending that need beefing up and then 9K filling. 10K is so daunting. I’m not wired for the long ones. 🙁 My goal is really just to get it finished and put out a sexy, decent story.
10k is the limit, Kimmi. it can be much shorter than that if you wish. as long as it's a good story, you won't suffer any penalties for length or stuff like that.

Hi Jen,
While the rest is clear to me, I do think this sentence needs more clarification. Are you saying, you want authors to deliberately write bad grammar, like not using capital letters, deliberately poor sentence structures... etc etc and does it go as far as poor spelling?
Or are you saying the moderators will let poor grammar go? Things like commas, colons, and my favourite, ellipses. To encourage new woodbee whodunnit authors to enter?
what she means is, you're allowed to use the phrase "whodunnit"... it was said jokingly... other than that, the usual rules apply... please make sure you're story is up to snuff (see what I did there) as far as grammar and spelling go 'cause yes, as usual, the mods WILL smack you about the head and send your story back if it's littered with issues. hope that clarifies things...?

I was hoping a new competition would begin soon. Now, I only hope the subject is one of interest to me. Fingers crossed
i'll give Jen a lick. that said, traditionally, around this time of year, it's Autumn or Halloween-themed. not sure if that's going to be the case though, so don't preplan.

Censorship of any kind, under any circumstances, is dangerous. Everything posted on this site would be censored off by Christian fundamentalists, because the stories don't match their delusions of how life should work. Your woke/snowflake delusions should not restrict writers from publishing any content, whatever you choose to name it. Real adults don't practice censorship.
many of the rules and regulations exist for legal issues. pure and simple, the subjects banned are considered felonies. Many of them put up red flags on the internet and draw unwanted attention. i am sure there are people here who would like the freedom to write b estiality stories for example. if we allowed that we'd pretty soon be overrun with people submitting such, chatting about it, starting threads about it - it's a divisive subject and I think it would end up driving off people who think the subject unethical, immoral, and just plain disgusting. it's in the interest of the site to cater to our current membership rather than drive them off, a lesson taken from first removing I ncest stories and then adding an I ncest Fantasy category.
also, we don't allow hate speech. Go to the site formerly known as Twitter if that's what you're looking for. and if you don't like our brand of "censorship" feel free to move on. there's plenty of sites that publish the kind of stuff we won't. the quality doesn't tend to be as good, but that's the trade-off.
FYI - people who think the word "woke" is a negative crack me up. to be caring and empathetic and treating others with kindness rather than judgement is kind of a positive in my book.
sincerely,
A real adult.

What about the 'living dead'? Hallowe'en is just around the corner:
"Unnggghhhh" he said, shuffling from side to side as his tattered rags flapped in the breeze.
"Urrrhh," she moaned, swaying slowly and gazing deep into the dark hollow sockets where his eyes had long ago been pecked out by scavenging birds.
living dead are allowed. vampire stories are usually the go to, but mummies and zombies shouldn't be an issue (tho the idea of a zombie penis falling off mid sex act makes me giggle a bit).
