The majority of submissions have been really good. Some, average. And of course, a few people seem to be taking the mick a bit.
We want this category to be a huge success. It will hopefully encourage new authors to write and publish here, especially those who might not feel they have an entire story in them just yet. Plus it offers up a savage challenge to existing writers.
Talking of which, it must be time for a new competition ...

If you spend your day having to remove the 3 and 4s. Why not remove scoring from competitions and judge them in the amount of comments they get. The highest comments wins?. Im not a writer but I feel if you take the time to write a story you deserve a 5. If they're are people here who purposely score stories badly and you know who they are. Can't they be stopped from writing (if they do) and scoring for a period of time. I tip my hat to anyone who has written anything here and deserve to be treated with respect. Everyone deserves respect but that's just me ?
vote scores are actually a very small part of the judging process - we have usually nominate a victim or 2 who actually read thru all the entries and pick out the best 10 for the judges to vote on.

EDIT: That said, I hope ALL votes under 5 aren't being removed - but only the serial low voters who are trying to play unfairly. I usually give out 5s, but want the option to score how I feel, and think others should too.

one of the things to note, too, is lush has a culture of being overly kind in respects to votes. 5s are the norm rather than the exception. that all said, a lot of the members, when it comes to comps, rate a little differently - it's not a diss - it's simply being a little more honest in their votes, a little more critical. for example, if they read a story that is just BRILLIANT and think it deserves a 5 and then read another that is amazing, but not quite as good as the first, then they might give it a 4, or one that is really solid, but doesn't have the same spark might be the one that gets a 4 or even a 3.
to be blunt, not every story deserves a 5 and in a comp, if i voted (i tend not to until it's over, simply because i don't want it too look like favoritism, especially since i often short list and almost always judge the comps) i'd be handing out a lot of 4s (damn good story. loved every word of it) and threes (really solid job) rather than all 5s (omg, this thing just blew the top of my head off).
btw, i have plenty of stories here, that if i was voting honestly, i'd give 4s to as well, so to anyone who gives me a 5 on a story? thanks for being nice, something i try to do as well.
